2006 Winter Olympics are fast approaching - like the college basketball thread, I am trying to gauge interest in it.

Seeing as only 8 people have bothered to vote in this poll, I'd say the interest level is pretty low.

That's just because it's stuck in a forum no one reads. :mrgreen:

I'd watch the olympics if they went back to the original 8-12 events in ancient greece.

And it wouldnt hurt if they created women events in these 8-12 events and made them do it in the old style tradition (nude) :D

Woman's Luge would be very interesting in this style.

I would cringe though, at men's nude bobsled/skeleton/luge - as much as I wouldn't mind seeing some of them nekkid, the thought of what could happen if something dangled under a sled runner..........

I am going to be in Italy from 2-16 to 2-21 but don't think that I will even try to go for the fun and games around the events...

Keep in mind none of these sports were in the original olympics. In fact I dont think any of the winter ones are.

I find the sliding sports interesting - bobsled, luge, skeleton - but watch everything just to see the crashes. What I don't like is being force fed figure skating because the women's audience loves it.

Michelle Kwan? Isn't she in her 14th Olympics? Enough already. Grow and get a job.

They are sweeping the ice for any lil' rocks or other debris, which could possibly alter the course of the stone.

Curling=2nd only to the NFL

I am floored that curling is a sport. Hwo was it started? I know. 2 rich old guys were playing a game where you slid rocks across the frozen pond and tried to make it land in good spots for points.

So the two rich old guys make a nice wager on the game and losses because his last rock gets thrown off course by debris.

So next year they make a bigger wager and the guy who lost paid a bunch of immigrants to sweep the ice so he doesnt lose like last time. So the other guy pays for a bunch of guys to. But then they realise they should limit the number of guys with brooms.

Sounds plausable. but how is it an actual sport?!?!?!?!

check out sweeping, main reason is to reduce friction rookie. ;)

Besides skiing, i've maybe seen snow 10 times in my life. I keep my activities to Cali-AZ-Cabo. The rest of the country in summer time.
