yea, i believe so.

i have a "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2915ABG" (in a Dell 600m inspiron laptop) and i also need to connect one of the mac books to the network, which I also believe supports the 802.11g

linksys is made by the big boys, I know that a lot of people don't like them and I have had some problems but I install a ton of small business wireless networks and while I have had some problems, I have had less problems with them than any of the other products (at that level, of course)...

The best wireless router you are going to get for reasonable money right now on the market is the Buffalo Technology WHR-HP-G54. Best Buy carries it and it will give you higher speeds at a greater distance than many of the other more well known routers will. I have a friend that is a huge gamer and turned me on to Buffalo about 6 months ago and I couldn't be happier. Here is a link to the router.

If you want I can pick one up from Fry's Electronics and drive it down. I am in Tucson at least twice a month.

Wireless routers in the dorm can be rough, any type or router really. I tried to install one, took down the entire internet for my floor.

Anyways, if you go to the Best Buy off of 1st and Wetmore, their computer guys will take care of you.

I have an Airlink and have had nothing but problems with it.

What kinds of problems? I've had two prolem free and bought them for most of my family that can use wireless w/o prolems.

The very first time i bought an airlink i couldn't get it set up and called tech support. Left a message on a saturday figuring i was screwed until monday. The **** called me back Sat night. I was surprised as he11!! Anyway, i'd turned off the broadcast - which was a simple fix.

Do you have a credit card? You'll probably save some money if you order online. Or you could try craigslist

I constantly get booted, slow speeds, just stuff like that. They are cheap, you get what you pay for, so I suppose I shouldn't complain.

Try NewEgg.

I bought my DLink router there for $25 after mail in rebate and they have fast shipping.

a big ol' bump

is this still the way to go? - any new ideas on a decent home router out there?!

basically I have my desktop connected to Qwest DSL with their modem - i recently acquired a laptop from work that has a wireless card and everything in it - I can connect in the office, starbucks, etc to a wireless setup, just not at home

i want to be able to use my laptop at home to do work - i think i need a router so I can do this wirelessly - anyone have a knowledable opinion on this stuff?!

it's sad that my campus was the first in the nation to go wireless, but i'm so far removed from the tech world right now time has passed me by

I say DLink or Linksys as well. They are bigger companies and will honor their warranties. I have owned multiple routers and installed many from both companies with success.

I just recently upgraded my DSL modem (2Wire). The new one also acts as our wireless router. Works great and reduces the number of cables. See if you can do that with your QWest modem.

Setting up a wireless network is fairly easy. Just get a router and follow the instructions on the installation CD. Be sure to enable security.

If you have any problems just post on here and somebody will have the solution, usually.

Since everyone said to avoid Linksys like the plague, I guess your system guy just threw us all the bird, huh?
