Since Sarver isn't going anywhere as the managing general partner of the owner as long as this team remains in Phoenix, this is our only hope. It's the reason I floated the idea of Rick Pitino and why I introduced the idea of Charles Barkley for discussion.

Chuck would be sooo blunt with these kids that I’m not sure they could handle the truth.

Where is James Jones??? Haven’t heard a peep from this guy.

His bell evidently hasn't tinkled for him to run an errand. :)

What is his title right now? Temporary acting half-General Manager?

Or just stooge?

They didn't have a roster with two 20 year olds, three 21 year olds, two 22 year olds and zero quality players in the prime 26 to 32 range.

This is the main problem with the roster. We don't have a player that is in their "prime" right now. Somehow throughout McD's tenure he avoided signing any players that were young enough to be able to contribute through the length of their contract. He either brought in unproven young players or over the hill veterans that hadn't quite shown how close to retirement they were before coming here for one last payday.

I am politically a registered Independent and vote "both sides of the aisle" in elections. But I supported Chris Christy (before he blew it), then the LOOSE CANNON Trump, because I felt our system needed a shaking up.

Charles Barkley running the Suns for awhile would be the same loose cannon, don'tcha think, as Trump. But a better alternative than the same ol' status quo.

But only if he is GM (with an Assistant GM to do the legwork) AND Head Coach (with an Assistant Head Coach to do the same).

And with the understanding that Sarver and his group of gazilionaires will give the Chuckster full reign to make the basketball decisions.

Charles may be a loose cannon who says outrageous things, but he has a sound basketball mind (most of the time), better than what the Suns have had.

And as a 6'4 1/2" Round Mound of Rebound, he knew how to push it to greatness. The Suns could use that swagger.

At his worst, I think Chuck would be infinitely better than Sarver and his circle of incompetents calling the basketball shots.

Doesn't he still have a home in the Valley?

Yeah, let's turn it over to Barkley. That's the ticket. I'm serious! I'm serious!

I'd rather stand up naked in front of the congregation and admit I'd slept with the pastor, his wife, both of his daughters and all three of his sons before I'd admit, even in private, that I'd voted for Donald. The good news, breaking it to us this way takes some of the heat off of you for suggesting we should hire the laziest man in sports to run our franchise.

L O L ! Which is why I suggested that he have an Assistant GM and Assistant Head Coach to handle the details.

I voted the way I did because I felt that political gridlock had to be shaken up. Just as the Suns need to be shaken up. I consider the Suns to be a microchosm of the U.S. at this time.

If you'd rather have Robert Sarver calling the shots than the Chuckster, OK.

But if he could intimidate $arver into counting his money and letting strong basketball people make the basketball decisions, I'd sleep with his wife and both of his daughters. But, Steve, that's where I draw the line.

I'd rather have Barkley own the Suns than Sarver but you're not suggesting that. You're suggesting we should have Barkley AND Sarver and if that happens I'm going to blame some of the people in this forum and that I do not forgive. (can you tell what movie I re-watched earlier today?)

Or how about, we're stuck with Sarver and, that being the case, I'd rather the Chuckster intimidate him to go back to waving his finger and counting his money and let a basketball person make the on-court decisions. Sarver's yes-men have not produced results.

'Sorry, I don't know which movie you watched. Cat On A Hot Tin Roof? "Mandacity!" :)

Barkley going to intimidate Sarver? Never going to happen. I don't know if Robert is a good man or a bad man but he does not strike me as the kind of person that would wilt under pressure from that bloviating buffoon Barkley.

Okay, so I went out to IMDB and copied the actual movie quote I was borrowing from. It should be a dead giveaway unless you simply don't know the movie.

You talk about vengeance. Is vengeance going to bring your son back to you, or my boy to me? I forgo the vengeance of my son. But I have selfish reasons. My youngest son was forced to leave this country because of this Sollozzo business. All right, now I have to make arrangements to bring him back here safely cleared of all these false charges. But I'm a superstitious man, and if some unlucky accident should befall him... if he should be shot in the head by a police officer, or if he should hang himself in his jail cell, or if he's struck by a bolt of lightning, then I'm going to blame some of the people in this room, and that I do not forgive. But, that aside, let me say that I swear, on the souls of my grandchildren, that I will not be the one to break the peace we have made here today.

OK, I'm guessing The Godfather. Nope, never saw it. Or any of them.

But if Sarver had the sense to hire a strong basketball guy, he'd have the guts to say to him, "You hired me to do a job and get you out of this mess. Now step back and let me do it."

But, of course, Sarver has enough millions so he wouldn't have to do it. Even if it meant filling the seats at Talking Stick Arena. Pocket change!

Barkley would actually be cool to have around working in our FO. He’s not afraid to speak his mind and it would be pretty interesting to see what he say regarding the internal workings of the Suns organization. Sarver would probably never hire him.

Speaking one's mind is fine, but it doesn't mean that the one is not an idiot. Barkley is my favorite player of all time, but I am not so sure he is very smart when it comes to building a team.

Tom Chambers might make an interesting GM. He clearly knows the game and does not sugar problems.

You're right. Charles Barkley is not one to build a team. Rather, just like Trump, he is one to shake loose the status quo, which had been steadily dragging down the Suns. Then reach the limit of his purpose and move on, for others to rebuild.

Putting Barkley in charge of our change of identity would announce to the NBA and all of its fans that the Phoenix Suns days of being a passive, gimmick team are over.

Gimmick = 3 lead Point Guards jockeying for position; 2 young Power Forwards drafted together jockeying for position; firing a Head Coach early in the season; firing a General Manager early the next season and stuck with a Head Coach who lacks fortitude; playing people out of position at Point Guard, Shooting Guard and Power Forward; having a team with players who are all too old or too young and none in between.

The Suns need a change of image. As well as basketball decisions made by a basketball mind and one who is not afraid to rock the boat, at that, like Charles Barkley. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

The problem is that the perception of the Suns is not Robert Sarver's priority. It is having a play toy that he and his cohorts paid for and pretend to be experts at. His headquarters is in San Diego. He couldn't care less about the fans of Phoenix.

Good suggestion to the fill the role I've suggested. Outspoken, but not as outrageous as the Chuckster.

Hiring a clown/ jester will show everyone that the organization is a joke. "Shaking loose the status quo" phrase is overused and overrated. You shake the status quo by having a plan, not panicking, and patiently executing the plan. Hiring (or electing) a clown does not do anything productive, except make the malcontents temporarily happy.

They are set on three positions, they are not getting blown out like they were the first few games. Ayton looks great, Bridges looks good, Warren looks better, and Booker will look better when he is healed a bit. Don't have an opinion on Jones until he does something, but I am certain he knows more than Barkley. Suns need to be patient and not panic. If they panic, they will only make things worse. They need to make some minor trades (shed the dead weight, get a competent point guard to get through the season) and remain patient. They struck gold with the two first-round picks, and an improved Warren. They are fine at 2 with Booker and Bridges, at 3 with Bridges and Warren, and 5 with Ayton and Holmes as his backup. They need to develop what they have, get a competent point guard, and add depth by adding minor pieces. Hiring a clown to shake things up would be counter-productive. What they need is competence, not idiocy.

You would think that United States citizens would be particularly attuned to this deception by now.

so... you supported two previous disastrous candidates... and after seeing how that blew up in your face, you've decided to completely ignore those ramifications of those decisions and now you're ready to go all in with the same thought process for sports?

That is the very definition of insanity.

This would be a case of "desperate times call for stupid measures".

Barkley was a great player, he's entertaining on television, but I have no doubt he'd be the first player to trade away a star player because he wrote the wrong name when submitting a trade to the league office.

He's a clown and he is almost always wildly incorrect in his prognostications.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Pitino at least has a track record of being competitive in the NBA. There is no legitimate GM/head coach candidate that would touch this toxic situation with a 10-foot pole, so our only hope even to get to any measure of respectability (as opposed to historic futility) is to roll the dice. Once we get to mediocrity/respectability, hopefully someone with a pedigree and better track will be available to help us take the following step. For now, we need to get out of the extraordinarily hopeless culture of losing in which we are mired now (and have been for the last 5 years).

Good god...

Pitino stunk in the NBA. His greatest strength as a college coach, hookers and and bribes, don't go far when dealing with millionaires.

Barkley I addressed in the previous post.

If we hired those 2 we should just skip the melodrama and move the clown show to Vegas since we will already be leading the league in prostitution and blackjack.
