Yeah, Sirius 21 was pimping "Woman" when it came out. I think their second single is actually better than that one.

Woman is the single, so it makes sense that thats the track that people are pimping. But the iPod tune, Love train is amazing and witchcraft, with its over the top Jethro Tull-esque flute solo and of course the amazing power of Dimiension knock yer socks off.

Ive seen them a few times now and they are rising fast.(I cant afford to go see them live anymore) first time was 10 bucks! Whats the second single?

Joker and the Thief is the second single. Demension is easily my favorite track. The alternating Jimi Hendrix Experience baseline jam to the Black Sabbath-esqu guitar rifs put me over the top.

Great choice. Also an excellent song. Man, its amazing to see them live. a 3 piece with HUGE sound. and then the bass player puts down the bass and plays keys and they still dont lose any balls. Just monstersound. They should bring back the old school arena rock days...

BOC
Deep Purple
Sabbath

the works.

Joker and the Thief and Dimension kick ass. I first heard Wolfmother on NFL Network. It seems TO was warming up with an Ipod and when asked what he was listening to , he told them it was Wolfmother's Joker and the Thief.

I finally decied to check them out.... Definitely one of the best hard-rock bands out there.... The singer reminds me a lot of Robert Plant, but it's takes someone with such a distinctive voice to match that....

Probably the best hard-rock band to emerge in recent years.. would rank them right up there w/Jet for sure....

It surprises me that you pimp Jet so hard, though my anti-jet leanings may come from a dislike of the beatles. But to me that first record, man I was so tired of hearing it. After a couple months, I just can't even put it on. But Im glad you dig on the Mother. Especially since you have a hard time with derivitive type bands...

Well... that's where we beg to differ... I rank the Beatles among my top-5 favorite bands of all-time, but obviously we're all entitled to our own opinion/taste..... I do admit that Jet did get played-out and that I havent listened to them in several months... It's just that it is refreshing to hear some harder sounding rock which of course has been absent for the most part for the past 10-years....

I just dont like that corporate/commercial sounding music....Bands like Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd, later System of a Down (they just went downhill over the past cpl albums)..etc.... I cannot tolerate them since there's no originality...or all their sounds are alike......

I have to look more into Wolfmother.....Further evidence that Australia has a top-notch music scene.... now spearheaded by Wolfmother and Jet.... Too bad Silverchair faded into obscurity....

See, Jet to me sounds more mellow beatles that rockin beatles to me. Maybe Im missing something? Other than the catchy as hell hit off the first record, I cant recall any rockin Jet tracks. If you like Downunder rock, give The Kiwi's a try, too. The D4 are great, young, garagy rock, but they havent put out anything in a couple years now, and I LOVE The Datsuns. 2 great albums, but kind of fell off the hype radar after their first record, so they kind of dies off as well, though they just played here in New York City recently. (my unborn child saw them live several months ago, heh) She's now born, b y the way. Oh and Detroit sounding stuff, Check out the Dirtbombs. Super lofi soul/punk hybrid with 2 drummers, 2 bassists and one guitar/vocalist. I love them. Also, check into Earl Greyhound.

My problem with Jet is they always sound like someone else. I'm surprised Iggy Pop didn't sue them over the rip-off on "Are You Gonna Be My Girl." Sounds just like Iggy's "Lust For Life." Another one of their songs sounded totally like the Beatles.

First, congrats on your newborn daughter!!!!!

I thought most of the "Get Born" album had a garage-rock sans "Timothy", "Move On", "Come Around Again" (which reminds me of Floyd's "Wish You Were Here") and "Look What You've Done" (which was their best John Lennon imitation).... Although.. I do agree they didnt approach that magnitude as they did on "Are You Gonna Be My Girl"....."Last Chance", "Roll Over DJ", Cold Hard B*****", "Get What You Need" could hold their own..... I know probably it doesnt compare completely to the rockers of old (the ones we love), but still better than most out there today...

Thanks for those recommendations... Only one you mentioned that Ive heard before is the Datsuns, but have just listened to them in passing.. not fully at length......

Do you like Supergrass, Interpol, and the Strokes?

Yeah.. you essentially said the same about Wolfmother in this thread on how they sound like Billy Squire (also you can notice the Led Zep, Sabbath, Queens of the Stoneage in them as well).....

That doesnt necessarily signify that both Wolfmother and Jet arent worth listening to, because at least they pattern themselves after elite bands rather than that drawn-out BS we get from the likes of Nickelback....

Nor.. am I implying that Jet are revolutionaries.... Im just afraid still for the state of the music industry which is something I discussed a lot over the past couple years... there hasnt been that new genre/wave/movement (how ever you want to classify it)..... By 1996 Grunge was already fading.. 1986 the Hair Bands began to pick-up further steam... 1976 was when Disco had already past..1966 Psychedelia was in its infancy... Now... it's essentially nothing and it just really baffles/saddens me...

Wolfmother is going to be in the studio at The Edge 103.9...I think tomorrow afternoon. It might say exactly what time on their website if you want to hear it. I heard the dj talking about it and thought of this thread..

I'd agree to that to an extent. I think eventually somebody will come up with something new- just not now, and it probably won't be from America.

I agree...the last innovative bands to come out of the US were Grunge.. who were essentially copying some of the garage bands that were popular in the early-mid 60s...... The cause of it...of course reverts back to earlier discussions on how MTV destroyed music for the most part....

The next wave will be from Brittain... or heck.. perhaps even Australia..... It must happen w/in the next cpl yrs or music will forever be as stale as it has been....

Check out the new Comets on Fire. Album is called Avetar. I have their earlier releases as well, but this latest one, whew. Theyre from Santa Cruz, and if anything is right with American music, they are it. A nice mix of psychedelia, superfuzz pedals, and mudhoney-esque dueling feedback guitar solos.

Just checked out a bunch of their songs on Napster. I like it!
Total 70's. lol

A little Billy Squire. A little Doors. A little STYX. A little KISS. A little Foreigner. A little Zep. I also hear a little White Stripes (vocals).

Why not? Good new band.

Kinda reminds me of when Jet came out a few years back.
