Every few years there's just a quarterback class where no one comes out and is going to be successful. Looking back, I was wondering how people think this draft class compares.

I still like Tyler Wilson and Ryan Nassib, but I wouldn't be shocked if Sean Renfree is the best QB that comes out of this class. It looks to be terrible on the surface though I am far from an expert in regards to projecting college QBs to the NFL.

Yeah... I'll be more surprised if there are 2 quarterbacks that develop from this draft class than I do if there are 1 or 0. It just seems to happen every five or six years that a group of passers comes out who are completely worthless.

I kind of anticipate that this QB class will be like the 2000 draft where on guy will be taken in the middle of the first (then it was Chad Pennington), and then no one will want to pull the trigger until the 3rd (when the 49ers took the second coming of Joe Montana, Giovanni Carmazzi).

I know that Tom Brady came out of that draft class blah blah blah, and maybe there'll be a guy like that in this group, too. But there probably won't be, and it's really, really difficult to predict who that's going to be, and you don't want to risk a 3rd round pick on a guy being Tom Brady when he's really Chris Redman.

I think I have said this before, but I think Renfree has the potential to have a Tom Brady "type" of career. Not that I believe he will turn out to be a Hall of Fame QB, but a guy who was underrated in college, good physical size, pro level offensive prep, and good QB skills. I will be surprised if Renfree does not make it in the NFL as at least a #2 QB.

The type of player Tom Brady was WHEN HE WAS DRAFTED, not necessarily how he turned out to be. Brady made himself into the Brady we see now, but his physical skills and college production were all average coming out of MIchigan. He was seen as a "nothing special" talent coming out of college but he did have the tools to be a QB in the NFL. Brady's work ethic and drive are what enabled him to use his average talents to become a Hall of Fame QB. Obviously this was aided by the enviorment in New England, but Brady never possessed elite physical or athletic skills.

So by "Tom Brady type of career" you mean the actual career that Chris Redman somehow continues to enjoy, right? Maybe Marc Bulger?

I love when Southpaw comes in at draft time to not bang on the Miami Dolphins or Bill Parcells, but just talk about prospects from his always-interesting and -informed perspective.

Yes. Great pro level prep that very few QBs come out of college with. I would be ok with spending up to a 4th on him coming off his injury.

This year's bad but '02 was BAAAAAAAAD. Also, I think Geno can be a good QB in this league, and Glennon and Dysert show potential as well IMHO

I think those are the most likely of scenarios and if I can draft that in rounds 4-6, I am pretty happy. However, as Brady showed, sometimes these types of guys have a fire that drives them to be special. No one can predict that type of production from a mid to late round pick, but as I said, I wouldn't be shocked if Renfree ends up being the best QB to come out of this class.

Not possible to compare. This may turn out to be a strong QB class. Look at all the teams that passed on Wilson and Kaepernick.

It's more than just "drive" though, it also requires opportunity. We're talking about six or eight names from this draft class, and there's really--what?--20-25 jobs that are already locked down. Of the remaining 12 jobs (max) there's going to be someone in front of them to be pushed past.

There has to be the combination of talent, desire, and fortune in having a starting job open up that allows all but one or two of these guys (probably) showing that they can be good.

Remember that Tom Brady didn't out-compete Drew Bledsoe for that starting job with the Pats. He got his first start due to injury, and played well enough to keep it, and then become a Hall of Fame quarterback. If that was something that could potentially happen all the time, it would have happened for the Cards in the last two years.

Most of the time, the best case scenario is what happened with Derek Anderson, where you come in, play well for a little while, get a pay day, and show everyone why no one wanted you in the first place.

2006 Two huge busts taken in the first 10. 2002 Two huge busts taken in the first 3.

1999-2012 41 QBs have been taken in the first round. Only 4 have won Super Bowls. What a horrendous waste of draft capital.

Let's draft a pass rusher or a Center.

:p

Hard to compare because we already have results from years past. We have no idea if any of these QB's in the 13' class will be good or not. Not a fair comparision. PLus in todays restructured rookie wage scale, there is NO way a bust from 2013 can equal busts of the past.

Plus, what about the 2001 QB class? There were a ton of questions about Mike Vick and no one liked Eli Manning or Drew Breese. There were a ton of warts for all those guys and yet, for the most part, these have been successful NFL QB's. That was considered a 'weak' QB class as well.

I think too many people just say 'its a weak class' and dont actually watch these players. I think Smith, Wilson, and to a lesser degree Nassib can have good NFL careers...

I think we let the QB's pick the team they want to play for this draft- But with the talking heads track record - and their ability to make crap up for a pay check-
I kind of like the chances of this QB class of 2013.

If Geno Smith is the best QB in this class then that says it all.

Smith is not an NFL QB.

Young - Cutler - Leinart may turn out to have been the most disappointing.

Hogwash. Not only did that draft class feature those three--two of whom have been to the Pro Bowl, but also Tavaris Jackson, Charlie Whitehurst, and Bruce Gradkowski. If you have a draft class that produces six quarterbacks who start games in the NFL, that's pretty good.

C'mon, now. There were questions about whether or not Mike Vick could/would re-define the quarterback position in the NFL (and I'd argue that he might have, but we'll have to wait a few more years), but no question that he was worthy of the #1 pick in the NFL draft. Drew Brees had concerns about his size and college system, but it's difficult to argue about a draft class featuring a guy who was going to win the Super Bowl.

Don't know what you're talking about with Eli Manning. That 2001 draft class also had Sage Rosenfels, Quincy Carter, Mike McMahan, and A.J. Feely.

Why is Geno Smith a better prospect than Blaine Gabbert or Jake Locker or Chrisian Ponder? I can't say for sure that this draft class could come in and take those guys' job from Day One, much less Mark Sanchez and Kevin Kolb.

If your draft class doesn't feature a single prospect who's clearly an upgrade over Kevin Kolb, your draft class is pretty terrible.

This poll jumps the gun because we are judging the others in hindsight, we truthfully have no idea how this QB class will fare till a few years after the draft.

Chris Redman had a decent career.Kid got hurt every time he was in position to be the starter.Still he had a decent career as a solid spot starter and backup.
