I can't believe Alex smith is considered the best QB in our division... that just goes to show how bad the passing is in the West

The only team in the league with a clearly worse QB situation than us is Jacksonville... maybe Oakland.

LMAO Oakland has Carson Palmer for christ sake who performed admirable being thrown into the fire mid season damn near with no TC no practice with WR's and minimal to no knowledge of the PB.

Cleveland, Miami and at this point the Rams and the completely overrated Sam Bradford who has been awful. None of them on paper at the moment have anything to brag about at QB. The Vikes have potential but nothing more and the Seahawks with Flynn may be ok they may not. Hard to say at this point.

I felt like Carson was done BEFORE last year. The guy's arm is toast. He gets picked like crazy because of how much loft he puts on the ball. He might prove me wrong, but I doubt it.

And I agree that Cleveland, Miami and the Rams have nothing to brag about, but neither do the Cards. They have mostly unknown commodities, while for the most part we know what we have.

As long as we have Double Duece that is in no way shape or form a true statement.

well Matty

Har Matty, there was an article where Matt Leinart said it seemed like a perfect fit for him to come teach up Palmer on Knapps offense. I smel a good season for Mr Palmer or else.......

Now that said, seeing 2 firsts the skins gave for RG3 and Raiders gave for Palmer, Kolb might yet be a bargain, We could use DRC but he really doesn't fit Horton's hard smacking DB desires, but neither does Gay? Flemming oh yea baby... Toler too. If Horton Coaches the Cardinal out of them .. Ha Ha

Kolb deserves my full support ,with a full offseason, But Skelton has already outperformed his draft status and pay. I'd go the season with Mr Skelton in a heartbeat, both need a decent run game to win, but most QB's do.

"I'm here to help Carson with reads," Leinart said of his role as the signal-caller with the most experience in Knapp's system.
"The great thing is I've (repeated) a lot of these plays over the past two seasons and (Carson) is just doing it for the first time," Leinart added. "I told him today to just stick with this route because it's a great route.
Palmer and Leinart, both Heisman Trophy winners, were teammates for two seasons together at Southern California.
"We're so comfortable with each other," Leinart said. "I'm here to help him."

This is the most sensible post you've perhaps ever made. If Kolb DOES work out then yes, he's a steal, given what they gave up for RG3 and etc. If he works out.

Totally agree about Gay and DRC being identical, I totally agree with that. Not in regards to physical ability (DRC is off the charts) but in regards to fitting Horton's style, that is spot on dude. Very perceptive in my opinion. I totally agree with that.

I agree with Fleming, but I'm more sold on him than Toler. Toler was physical, which fits Horton in regards to tackling. You have to be able to tackle in Horton's scheme, because dudes are going to catch balls, it's all about not letting them catch deep balls and making them march play after play, I agree with that, but I'm not as sold on Toler as you.

I'm glad Kolb has your support, but also agree with Skelton starting. Kolb has a much better completion percentage and QB rating though. I'd like Kolb to do well.

(Good thoughts on Gay dude, I think that's spot on in regards to DRC and him not fitting Horton's scheme, I totally agree with that. I think Fleming moves past Gay and Toler).

Kevin Kolb is far from the worst starting QB.

I really shake my head at this stuff on Kolb v Skelton. Kolb came into a brand new offense, with no off season, learning new teammates and philosophies and he happened to get hurt. This is a guy who 2 organizations believed he is the guy. But some fans, for some reason, want to throw him under the bus

If he sucks this year then you can make a case for making a change but until then support the guy - he is the guy who will lead this team to wins.

FYI - I love skelton too but he is the second coming of Josh McCown. He is not a starting QB in the NFL. He is a great backup to have though

system

KK has not had an offseason or camp, He said he never had the at snap read of 3-5-7 step drops before and is still a year away from being fully acclimated to this offense.( nobody wants to hear that) Kurt loved not having to call every Oline protection, RB block or outlet, TE protection or route pre snap.

The QB does not direct this offense like Peyton Manning, The oline(and TE on some plays), RB, WR(and TE on some plays) read and react independently, It works when they all read the same diguised defense.

WHEN THEY don't read and react on the same page- well we called it MASS CONFUSION- MARCH in the Army. Even one of the best WR to ever play gets missed or looks like a dufus running the wrong route, when it can be any number of complicated offensive unit mis-reads or mis-reactions.

I don't see Haley, Whiz or Mike Miller having any success without Kurt? I think it is why THT started over Edge and Beanie. I also can not see any current NFL QB coming into this offensive system withe immediate or consistant success. We had more balance playcalling but still the system broke down early and often!

Stafford? Big Ben maybe? Steelers are going to a pass first team for the first time ever this year- we will se how that works out for them? Kolb, I know for a fact he is concussion and injury prone, I FEEL that Skelton has been a better field general at the end of games.

I took the article as saying Kolb and Skelton were not in the top 6 worse QB's of 11? did I read that wrong? We won't see the best of Kolb until next year, IMO. I just hope he embraces the run game and is ready for a run at the playoffs by years end.

The Eagles didnt think he would be "the guy". Teams dont spend a year talking about how much they want to get for trading "the guy". Reid has pulled this act before. He may have convinced the Cardinals that Kolb was "the guy", but Reid knew what he was selling. And judging by the Cards recent history of judging QBs, they had no idea what they were buying.

Kolb isnt the worst, but he has done nothing to pull away from the pack. Until he proves otherwise its safe to lump him in the bottom 5.

In all honesty, there is no way in hell I would say Kolb is in the bottom 5...maybe he is a middle of the pack guy. Here is something one must consider before passing judgment. KEVIN KOLB HAS NOT STAYED HEALTHY ENOUGH TO MAKE AN ACCURATE JUDGEMENT. Now if the inability to stay healthy is one of the criteria for a bad starting QB, then Kolb is the worst QB in the league.

Its to early to judge Kolb IMO if he fails this year or cant stay on the field due to injury, or cant beat out Skelton then I think we all can agree we wasted a decent cb, a 2nd round pick, and a ton of money.

I have to say that I'm excited for training camp to open and for your abrupt about-face on Double Deuce to prevent the Duckjake Jinx. Otherwise, maybe you're just trying to pump up Kolb... I'm interested to see how this resolves itself.

But isn't inability to stay healthy part of the evaluation on him? His results on the field with BOTH franchises has been decidedly mediocre. I think you deal with the injuries (like with Tony Romo) if the player shows that he's consistently good when he's on the field. But Kolb has a record of like 4-12 as a starter, and has two good games against two VERY BAD pass defenses.

It's all well and good to say "there's no way he's bottom 5", but then who is behind him?

1. Jacksonville - Gabbert/Henne
2. Miami - Garrard/Tannehill

After that, it's really close between Cleveland and Arizona, IMO. At least Cleveland has an intriguing and first-round rookie in Weeden. I'd rather have Kansas City's QB situation, because people HOPE that Kolb can show what Cassell has shown this year.

So... my question to you is who's worse off at QB besides us, Miami, and Jacksonville? Keep in mind that Tavaris Jackson was clearly better than Kevin Kolb last year.

Tavaris Jackson!

If we are basing it on last year's performances, I won't argue that we're not bottom 5. Though that would mean we'd have to be comparing directly against last year's performances from other teams as well.

If we're speculating on other teams' rookies and free agent pickups, then I'll do the same for Kolb. If healthy, he should be able to beat out Skelton and put up decent numbers. If he can't, then yeah, we got hosed.

But Philly getting a favorable deal out of the Cardinals didn't mean they didn't believe in Kolb at all. They most definitely did: then they took a flier on Vick and it really paid off.

I would not say their flier on Vick has payed off because Vick has surely started to revert to his typical erratic self and age and injury potential will have the Eagles needing a QB soon

Vick's TD:INT ratio from 2010 was silly and completely unsustainable (7:2), but in pretty much every other category, Vick put up the second-best numbers in his career in 2011.

59.8 completion %, 7.8 YPA, 84.9 QB rating, only 76 rushing attempts.

It's not his 2010 MVP-caliber season, and it's certainly not what Philly's expectations were, but I think that people are misremembering how fluky (but electric) Vick was in Atlanta. Vick never had a completion % above 56.4 with the Falcons.

Vick took the fewest sacks in 2011 than he did any year after his rookie season, and 11 sacks fewer than in 2010.

EDIT: who are the 5 teams that are worse off at QB than Arizona with Kolb?

If we do not assume a college player is automatically better before they prove themselves in the league, I would say the Redskins and Colts are no better than us at the moment (and I did say at the moment with those guys being rookies and unproven). People can talk about Tebow all they want, but the Broncos last season were no better than us at the QB position and can Manning stay healthy or can he be the same QB (I think so but he did have a severe situation with his neck). Vick looked like crap for most of the season last year and any Eagle fan comfortable about their QB situation is fooling themselves. Josh Freeman looked like crap for the Bucs, after he was good the last year but everyone must like the guy because they are giving him the benefit of the doubt, blaming it on the team and not him but why do people not do the same for Bradford is beyond me. The QB position at Buffalo is far from settled, Fitzpatrick turned into a interception machine as the season progressed, his best QB rating on a seven game skid was a whopping 51.9. We also cannot forget the Kolb like pick up (the acquired back up which a team thinks could be a franchise QB) of Flynn with the Seahawks, till that guy proves something in those funky Seachicken uniforms...I will not give him credit but dump on Kolb.

The biggest question mark for me is that when Kolb got hurt and came back Vick remained the starter. When Vick got hurt and came back Kolb went back to the bench and the trade talks started.

Kolb is just not the guy for the Cardinals. We need a big strong confident gunslinger at QB because our oline cannot protect him but our defense can give him a chance to win at the end. Skelton is that guy. Double Deuce had almost no preparation in 2010 running 3rd string and missed the last 2 weeks of the shortened pre season in 2011 and yet he came in cold and led the team on 4 come from behind scoring drives despite being under heavy pressure on almost every play and came off the bench to beat the 4and9ers and avenge his one really bad game. Imagine what the Double Deuce will be able to do with a full off season.

Kolb is a QB for a West Coast offense with an offensive line that can protect him. That is not the Arizona Cardinals.

BTW: Thank you Coach Whisenhunt for the QB controversy. Otherwise this would be the ASFN Arizona Cardinals Bored this time of year. :D

So... Indy, Washington, and Seattle might have a worse QB situation than the Cards, but probably don't--even you don't think that's the case. An unproven quarterback is a better option than one who has proven to be mediocre at best.

Do you think that Seattle, Tampa Bay, or Buffalo would trade their starter for Kolb straight-up? Even if we threw in a third-round pick? Of course not. Seattle's presumptive #2 Tavaris Jackson was significantly better than Kolb last year.

It's all right to say that you didn't think it through and that Kolb really is one of the worst 5 starting QBs in the NFL based on the evidence up to now. It's fine.

It's a joke that you suggest that Vick might be a worse starter than Kolb.

Those guys may or may not turn out to be good players, but we know none of those teams would give up those players for Kolb and we also know the Cards would swap Kolb for ANY of those guys in an instant.

His baseline stats put him in the bottom 10, you toss in his record as a starter and his health and so far and he is easily one of the worst few starters in the league.

so unknown optimism makes them have a better QB? The question was not about what some other team's believe and what they would not give up till they find out what they have, it was about who is better. I refuse to give any credit till a rookie proves himself on the field. Yes, I do think Vick might be worse than Kolb after his play last year coming into THIS season. If you think I'm a joke for stating my opinion, cool...hope you enjoy the laugh. Just do me a favor for all those out there who are convinced enough that Kolb stinks, please do not make a post later in the year about how you were wrong. With the tone of authority some people take on this for a QB which to me is still an unknown quantity, it does not even warrant a cliche 'I'm gonna eat crow now' and the assorted other good grace comments some might issue if he does do well.

If they believed that Kolb was better than their guy, wouldn't they trade for him straight up? How is that not essentially saying that "no, we like our guy more."

I fully expect a post later in the year from you, Arizona's Finest, and TJ saying, "Hell, yes, I was wrong about Kevin Kolb," should he turn out to be as bad as he's shown to be in the first five seasons of his career. Maybe he's one of those guys who goes from being really, really mediocre to being an All-Pro Franchise Quarterback after five seasons in the NFL.

You know... like that one guy... you know who I'm talking about... Like... I dunno... Rich Gannon?

That's cool but right now the Cardinals QB situation is as bad as it is in Austin.
Kolb has done nothing but get worse every game. From a decent game but with almost no points vs Seattle to miserable performances vs the Vikings and Ravens and a mediocre game vs Dallas where the stats were only made respectable by the game going into OT.

Skelator is too erratic. Bartel looks great until he throws his usual stupid interception and Lindley, or whatever his name is, is even more erratic than Double Deuce.

Other than that we're in fairly good shape going into the 2012 season. Just like the Longhorns. Except that our top players don't keep getting arrested on 6th street. :p
