Would our 1st, both 3rd’s, and next years 2nd get us to #3 overall?

I’m curious if that combination of picks would get us to #3 overall so we can finally get our guy for QBOTF? After hearing Charley Casserly and Mike Mayock rave about Baker Mayfield, it may be worth that high price to go get him. If he is the next Brees, why not make the investment?

It's not enough to move up that high at all. And like @oaken1 has said, if we do this, I will suffer a stroke.

Those three picks may get you to #7 (Tampa) or #8 (Chicago). If he is there at 7 maybe we could move up that far and take our QBOF in Mayfield...

The draft value chart says add another 2nd and 3rd to the proposed trade.

But if I'm sitting at number three, I want a couple first rounders for it.

Add next years first and you would have their interest. I don't think any trade up will happen unless it starts with 2 number 1s, especially if it is for a QB.

It’s all about relative value, too. If we think Mayfield is worth jumping up twelve spots for, the Broncos and Jets are likely to think it’s worth jumping up 2/3. And the Colts, in desperate need of star power (think Saquon Barkley), are going to be less inclined to move all the way back to 15. Especially since they might need a QB themselves.

When i think about a trade up, i start with this years and next years 1

Its fine tuning after that

The Chiefs moved up 17 spots to #10 for their current year 1st, a current year 3rd plus next years 1st

The Texans moved up 13 spots to #12 for their current year #1 and next years #1

Presumably, moving into the top 5 might carry a premium to what KC gave up.

Btw: There is a salary cap impact that offsets a bit of the draft pick cost

First, to get a QB on a rookie deal makes the rest of the roster easier to deal with cap wise

Then, the extra first rounder you give up is worth about $6.5 mill in cap space. Cant get a all pro, but you can get a solid starter at interior OL, or safety, LB, Wr for that number

If Baker pans out--and I think he will--he's much more Brett Favre than Drew Bree's.

Except for a QB that a team identifies as their QBOF it really isn’t where you draft it’s WHO you draft. Continuing to reach for small school players who probably wouldn’t even be drafted is foolish. Even if they get drafted later so what? Also, drafting guys and changing their positions a la Reddick is very risky. Keim has shown a propensity for reaching in the draft and doing stupid things like signing HB to a ridiculous contract AFTER a major injury.

Keim has to get a grip and hit home runs this draft. If he runs another clunker he should be gonzo.

Screw that, put David Johnson in there... shutdown corners are hard to find, or what a shutdown corner represents now at least
Yay, let’s trade away the only legitimate offensive skill player we have for a guy who has never played a down of NFL football! This sounds like a winning recipe.

This trade up thing feels like the kid who won’t date anyone besides the head cheerleader, who he’s never spoken to.

Going to #3 would be two first rounders for sure. I think we can get Mayfield at 8. That would be my play. I still think Darnold and Rosen are the first two off the board.

Nobody has spoken to that hot chick yet either. Someone will. Someone is going to go for broke. Someone might go after her and hit the bull's eye. A hot chick which works out is rare like a stud young QB, but rare accomplishments require rare acts unless you just want to be the status quo

I find it kinda funny. a few weeks back when I posted about trading away PP21 for that top pick everybody poopooed it. But the closer we get to the draft reality is setting in and some folks are seeing that if we want to trade up its gonna cost us to do it.
Like you said, DJ is our only offensive value right now and RB dont pack enough value anyway for that kind of pick... he might be enough if we added the #15... but if we were to trade a franchise type player for a pick it needs to be straight up...player for pick,...and we keep our 15 too. Not even the Browns would give up the #1 for DJ, RB's have too short a shelf life.

If we're trading up for a QB it wouldn't make sense to give up DJ who's a QB's best friend.

If you are trading up, then you have to come to the faithful conclusion that he is a franchise QB. What is worth more, a stud running back with a limited shelf life for his position, or a stud corner and young quarterback of the future. If you do not think a guy like Mayfield is a stud franchise guy, then of course you do not make the trade :)

If I'm trading up, it's for Rosen or Darnold and it's not including PP or DJ.
