Well, to start with, the jury is definitely still out on Ramsey, Boller, and Campbell especially. And do you seriously want to use Roethlisberger as a reason to SUPPORT your argument? Does nothing but contradict you, so you should have left him off.

Second of all, what kind of logic is that? 'Well, it seems like the third QB taken rarely pans out, so we'd better not take the third QB?' Makes zero sense.

Stout I think sometimes you have the sense of humor of an 18th century British Infantry Sergeant.

More I read, the more I like this guy, seems to have the work ethic and strive like Boldin and Fitz. Only QB that had to face anything and he also did not play say with a Reggie Bush, Lendale WHite Justice ETc, too put up his numbers

Demm you, sah! Lol

Wow, you did get me. Of course, I'm working without a ton of sleep, but I should still have caught it. D'oh!

The draft should not be looked at as help for today. It should be looked at as long term. This phlosophy would say Cutler would be a smart, logical, long term choice.
There are reasons to follow this philosophy.

Last year we took Antrell Rolle. How much did he help us last year? Arrington was taken in round 2. How much did he help us last year.
In 2004 we took Fitgerald and he had a darn good year....but as I recall we didn't make the playoffs. In round 2 we took Karlos Dansby, a player on the verge of being great, but again not enough of an impact to help make us a winner that year.
In 2003, The infamous "trade down". Calvin PAce and Bryant Johnson. Nuff said.

It would be a drastic mistake to plan on ANY player to make a major contribution to the point of pushing us over the top this year. A player like Ngata or Justice may indeed help the cause and have more of an impact than Cutler today, but draft picks are for tomorrow. ANY contribution from this years batch of prospects should be considered a bonus.

To put it another way, if Cutler is ranked by the Cards brass as the 10th best player and their top 9 are gone , then Cutler will be a Cardinal. . If he's ranked as the 7th best player and he's still available, Cutler will be a Cardinal. If he is ranked the 11th best player, then we will take somebody else.

We simply must take the best player available. Thats what got us this franchise on the upward swing. I too, want to win this year. But we can't be so short sighted that we pass on a player for that reason alone.

So to answer the question. I don't know!:)

As an aside, can the draft come any sooner so we can put an end to all these ridiculous draft conjecture threads?

One thing I was thinking about was that this may be the best chance and situation for the Cards to get a QBOF. And what you state above is one of the reasons.

The Cards probably have a high enough selection to get a talented QB, don't have their usual desperate need to get a player to fill a huge hole, and have a veteran QB under contract for the two years that the QBOF would sit and learn.

The question is of course which QB?

And isn't it great to not HAVE to get a CB, Tom Knight, a DT, Wendall Bryant, a WR, Bryant Johnson & Anquan Boldin, an entire offense (thanks Buddy), Leland McElroy,Johnny McWilliams,Aaron Graham,James Dexter,Harry Stamps and Julius Hayes....

I agree totally with Slandirac. I don't see anyone from any rookie crop making any huge impact on any team in their rookie year. Happens very rarely.

The last rookie LB, I saw making a first year impact was Vilma and the Jets still sucked. I suspect if Sims was thrown onto the field, he would get lost. He got lost in the ACC plenty of times. Great instinctual player, but a bit out of control. Vernon Davis is the only one I would bet the farm on to make a big impact and that will be with the 9ers, who will still suck. Take the chance that Cutler will be QOF starting in 2 years. If the Cards get better, they won't be picking higher than #10 in the near future.
