Would you pick Calvin Johnson if he fell to us at five?

Would you draft Johnson if he was there at 5 and Thomas & Peterson were gone?

and if the Vikings didn't give you anything decent? What if they said an extra fifth pic or something? Teams aren't as willing to trade up these days... I would want something really good to not draft him.

Ya...!!! And make the same mistake we did when we didn't take Suggs and wound-up with Pace and BJ. No take the best player available. Either Calvin, or Joe Thomas. No more stupid trades in the first round.

I'd take him. There's no way he should fall that far. He SHOULD be the #1 pick.

If Thomas is off the board, CJ is the BPA. I would take him and scare the hell out of every opponent on the schedule. Part of the knock on Quan and Fitz was their failure to get separation. If CJ was able to step right in, all three would see 1 on 1 coverage. Add in BJ as the fourth wideout and teams would have no clue as to where the ball was coming out at them. In a spread offense it would give Edge alot more room. It also gives you more security and flexibility when BJ's contract is up.

That said I would work hard to get back into the first and target Levi at tackle. I think, other than Thomas, he'll be the only rookie with a chance of stepping in during his rookie season.

You run to the podium and take him. You don't get a chance a too many difference makers. When you do, you don't pass because it's not a position of need.

It is about even at this writing. IF the question is draft him or not, which it appears to be, and not trade down, the answer is yes from me. He is more than likely the safest pick in the draft to hit the ground running. If we want to trade someone after we take him, so be it.

Why?? We should trade the pick and move down a couple of slots, especially if Brady Quinn is still there for Houston.

Also, lets say we do draft Johnson and keep him. Whats the point when Leinart will be on his butt before he can even look his direction.

Having an outstanding trio of wideouts is certainly not a bad thing, but we have been shown in seasons past that a solid o-line trumps all

I voted yes because the question is so black and white. If Johnson is there when we pick I think that alot of teams are going to be calling offering alot. If that happens we should trade down. If it didn't, draft him and IMO teams will be calling with trade proposals involving Fitz, Boldin or either of the Johnsons. Even if that didn't happen, two years from now we won't be lamenting picking him when he is one of the top three receivers in the NFL.

You've made the smart list!

I probably would too...well two really good starting tackles. I guess another question would be... how much would you want to trade down? Everybody says trade down, but I want to get very good value for him.

A second this yr and a first next yr to go the middle to middle late part of the round? Or just an extra second and third this yr? Or just an extra first next yr?

What would be good compensation? Because I just don't see the other guys available being the impact players he will be. If he's available Quin, Russel, Thomas, and Peterson our gone. Those are the impact players in the draft right there. The two QB's are debatable but they are qb's so they are potentially big impact players.

Gaines & Branch? From what I've seen and read, not so much.

I'd hate to leave him on the table, because he will be a star, but we are set at WR and the team has some real pressing needs, namely at T. We'd have to take Joe Thomas or Levi Whatshisname in the first round, I think.
