This is potentially huge news about the Suns. I caught a little blog from Ric Bucher saying that a source is saying that Sarver might be thinking the time is right to cash out. Also, he mentioned that Jeff Weltman is the hot name in connection to the open GM position. Weltman is the current assistant GM of the Milwaukee Bucks. Link below.

Umm, that link is not very specific. No matter. I won't believe it until it actually happens.

I'm just hoping the Suns hire a good GM. The rest is what dreams are made of. It's interesting to note, reportedly Sarver wanted to hire Blanks and Babby wanted to hire Weltman so the Suns ended up with Blanks. Maybe there is some hope for Babby although I do not know how Weltman would have worked out.

Could Weltman have been any worse than Blanks?

Also if Sarver sells I might have to become a Suns fan again. What an absolute disgrace he has been

No.

Weltman sounds like a good choice for GM although I hope Babby does a thorough search for a GM that has a keen eye for talent. Actually the way the Suns use the GM position, the Suns might be best hiring a top scout for the job.

I doubt any legitimate buyers would be lined up to buy the team, unless someone internally put something together. I can't see Jenny Craig caring enough to be that involved. The rest of the folks just aren't big enough players and/or they don't care for the spotlight. Richard Jaffe? Byron Roth? Their interests are elsewhere.

Arte Moreno would be the most obvious choice, but he was never the most passionate basketball fan. He was mostly just Colangelo's friend. They are very similar people with similar values. But Moreno's passion is baseball.

If the Suns end up with Morway, it means Sarver is still calling the shots. Sarver and Morway were classmates at UA.

The guy that got beat out by Lance Freaking Blanks? No thanks. With the list of possible GM's, I'd rather just let Barkley run the show.

It's almost impossible for things to get worse, and at least he'd be interesting.

Sarver is the worst thing that's happened to valley sports, the day he sells the Suns will be one of the greatest days in Suns history.

why? What has he done with bucks, or what have the bucks done with him there that in any way leads you to believe this?

My question exactly. Now, I don't expect him to be as bad as Blanks, but then again, if Blanks was choice #1 and this guy was choice #2 back when Blanks was hired, then I'm a little alarmed.

The information is out there for you to read. See links below regarding his time with the Nuggets, Clippers, Detroit and the Bucks. Weltman has had a hand in reviving the Clippers, the Nuggets and helping make key draft acquisitions by the Bucks including Brandon Jennings, Larry Sanders and John Henson.

If you read the last sentence of my post you would have also read.

Thus I am not locked into Weltman but I think the Suns could make a much worse choice. It seems the Suns could fill the GM position with a top scout from a successful team. The Suns do not ask much from a GM, whose primary duties is scouting. I think a top scout would like to have the opportunity to put GM on his resume.

You can pretty much assume that the opposite of what Ric Bucher says is the truth. That guy is wrong all the time.

he was there from 1994-2001...where the Clippers made the playoffs ZERO times and were atrocious every year.

the Nuggets

the next five years 2001-2006 for the Nuggets weren't impressive either. It's not like he found a diamond in the rough with Melo and that team never actually got the right pieces around Melo good enough to actually contend until THREE YEARS after he left when they finally got out of the first round.

and helping make key draft acquisitions by the Bucks including Brandon Jennings, Larry Sanders and John Henson.

the Bucks are a complete waste of space in the east. John Henson is a feather in his cap? Jennings is okay, and Sanders was a solid find, but whatever he's done with that team, it hasn't made much of a lick of difference in making them even mediocre.

Exactly. It would be one thing if we were bringing in PJ, but for the turd sandwich we're going to end up with, I'd rather give Barkley a chance. He'd at least make things interesting, something you can't say about anything Suns related as of late.

Damn....got excited when I read the thread title. Now, it's back to watching Sarver rot the team from the inside out.

Honestly, I dont see him selling the team anytime soon.

Honestly, I dont see him selling the team anytime soon.

The price offered for the Kings probably peaked his curiosity and he might have thought out loud, "Hmm, the Suns are worth more than that..."

He paid what, $400mill for the Suns and they're probably in the neighborhood of $600mill.

My biggest fear since day 1 was that he'd get rid of purple, erode the fan base and move them to San Diego.

Luckily for us SD is a terrible sports town and doesnt have a ready arena. I cant imagine them building a tax payer funded arena in the near future either.

Vegas does seem like its eventually going to get a team though, and they're building an arena to boot. Heck they wouldn't even likely change the name "Vegas Suns"---- puke.
