There was a pic of a guy holding a sign that said

"Wanna know what the island is"
"LOST"

Late Friday, both the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) made the following announcement:

Leaders from the WGA and the AMPTP have mutually agreed to resume formal negotiations on November 26. No other details or press statements will be issued.

I have yet to ever watch a show online that didn't have an advertisement before it.

So how there can be zero revenue is beyond me.

That said the writer's are costing thousands of other people their jobs, homes, and probably in some cases marriages. So feeling bad for them is out of the question for me.

so you're anti-unionization in general then? don't allow people to pool their collective services in order to better their own world against much more powerful bosses. that's a great concept.

What?

Talk about trying to put words into someones mouth.

If you try and follow my post I stated that online viewings have advertisements in front of them so how there can be no revenue (which is what the networks are claiming) is beyond me. Therefore the networks should just pony up and pay the writer's instead of lying about it.

At the same time I don't like how many other people this strike is causing to lose their jobs. So I refuse to feel sorry for the writers.

Do you get it now?

I'm sorry, but Mr. Cheese Beef has a trademark on this phrase. Please cease and desist all mentions of "put words in my mouth" and any derivatives. Thank you for your punctual cooperation with this request.

Do you think it is free to stream episodes online? It isn't. There are massive fees every single time someone clicks on an episode to view. When you have well over a million hits on a single episode a month, that is a HUGE amount of money that no preroll from Ford can begin to cover completely.

So if there is no money then why are the Networks balking at giving the writer's a cut?

If there is no money then they won't have to give the writer's squat. So what's the problem?

Ah, see - you are using that crazy tool called 'logic' again. That's just not the right instrument to bring to this discussion. ;)

It's also obvious they're paying *someone* for the content, just not the writers.

That's like me saying, "You know, if there comes a time where I make a million dollars painting a masterpiece, I'll give you 10%." Why would I do that? There's no way I'd make that contract with you.

There's a lot more to this than simply putting an episode on a server somewhere and then money starts flowing in as it's viewed.

The problem is that nobody outside of the system understands a thing about what's going on. They see a group against the Studios and they AUTOMATICALLY are against the studios. Doesn't matter if they are right or wrong.

And yet, people have no problem turning on the television or going to the theater.

There are writers who don't know the whole story behind the strike, just like there are studio people that have no clue what's going on as well. And the layman thinks they know? Heh.

Because I helped you paint it. In fact, in taking this analogy a little further, I sketched the masterpiece on the canvas for you. You added the paint, but I gave you the basis for it.

If it's decided that the writer is worth X% of the creation, then X% is what they should get--regardless of the ultimate amount.

What have the studios to sway public opinion? The public is for the writers because they have stated their case, including the reasons they believe the studios are wrong (online makes nothing/online is the future).

The public has chosen their dog in this fight because it's the only dog we know.
