Ihave watched Geno for 4 years now and know this: His stock will rise after workouts and pro days. What he doesnt display at WVU is his athleticism. Kid can move and run when neccessary and does have good speed.

As far as dink and dunk, thats just ridiculous. I mean, just watch his games, he makes all the throws including the deep out and deep ball and is very accurate.

He runs that offense. Period. He makes the line calls, the wr calls, and has the complete freedom to change plays at the line. Someone said he makes one read. Come on. Just watch yesterdays game. He goesw through his progressions and does it fast.

If you want to knock him, he certainly has warts, but the ones I have seen people bring up on this thread just proves you havent seem him play much.

What you seem to fail to realize about Baily's catch and run TD in the bowl game is the fact that Geno switched into that play when he read the blitz from his right side. Sure the throw wasnt much, but wouldnt it be nice to have a QB with an actual football IQ?

I believe that was me who said it. I fully admit that I haven't watched Geno play much. Probably no more than 3 full games. I just said that I had read and heard in multiple places from the draftniks that he struggles to get through his progressions. I hope you're right, and those guys are wrong. The better the QBs in this draft are, the better.

I've seen Geno well over a dozen times. He does throw a nice deep ball. My concern with him is that, when he faces good teams, he doesn't push the ball downfield. If he's calling the plays and continuosly calling/throwing check downs, that's a potential problem.

I agree, when he's playing team of lessar caliber, he sits back in a clean pocket and can throw it with the best of them and shows a boat load of talent.

I've noticed the same thing with EJ Manuel from FSU. I've seen him multiple times over the years but hadn't seen this year until later in the season on a Thursday night game. I thought, wow, this guy looks like a different QB and had put up some very good numbers on the year. Then I saw him play Florida about a week later and he was right back to the guy I had seen over the past couple years and looked pretty bad.

I like judging guys against their better competition. That way you see him them under pressure and how they react when things get tough. Transfer that to the OL and it's the exact reason why I don't like Taylor Lewan. He's played 3 good teams and he has been exposed in each game. On the other hand Luke Joeckel pretty much handled LSU and Bama's DE's and OLB's.

Now this is a man who knows his damn football. I swear, you draft Luke Joeckel #1 overall and NOBODY is saying it is a bad pick in two years, I guaran-fricking-tee it!

If the Cardinals take Geno Smith at #7 overall, it will be a huge mistake IMO.

Take the best player available on defense or the offensive line. Don't gamble on a guy who may be the best quarterback in a very weak class but hardly represents the best value at #7 overall.

Nassib looked ok, but no better. In a normal year, he is probably a 4th rounder and in this class he is likely a 2nd rounder. Decent arm, decent footwork, and decent decision making. Reminds me a bit of Andy Dalton in the wya he is average.

Geno Smith looks like garbage to me when he is on the field. Standing around he looks like a top prospect, but on the field he looks like an immature kid who struggles against physical defenses despite having very talented offensive personnel. Reminds me of Blaine Gabbert.

That's the Geno I have been watching for 2 years now. His first 2 years under Bill Stewart were a bit of a waste of his talent. He may not have the raw talent of Cam Newton, but he has a lot more QB skills coming out than Cam did. Looking forward to his sit down with Gruden at the combine.

BTW, his TD/INT ratio is phenomenal and the Pinstripe picks don't count. That Bowl game needs to be blown off the schedule. Ridiculous venue.

I think the check downs he calls were b/c the WVU team was exposed by Texas Tech early and everyone else started playing them like that: Rush 3, maybe 4 and drop everyone in coverage. WVU run game was not good this year with the absence of their starting rb so they couldnt make anyone pay for only rushing 3 or 4.

I just dont think Geno had anywhere else to throw the ball. Basically had to dump off to rb's in order to get the ball out.

Having said that, he does have warts that concern me, mainly his head. He is so intent on being perfect that he he gets aggrevated when they/he doesnt play well. Have to let those things go.

Also, while he is very good at his progressions, he tends to sit in the pocket too long resultng in sacks/fumbles. Dude wont throw the ball away. Needs to learn to play for another series.

Could use more touch on his short passes. I didnt noticed this until the last 4-5 games but he tends to rocket balls to his rb's/wr's on screens etc.

I like him as the #1 QB in this draft and he could be really good in the NFL witha few years coaching. He certainly has all the football skills, IQ etc. (gogle the nike elite 11 qb camp he attended with Trent Dilfer last year-rave reviews) foot work, he just needs to learn to 'pull the trigger' and trust his skills sometimes. Nothing that cant be fixed.

When you can't win vs. top 25 college teams and you have Tavon Austin and Steadman Bailey, you have more than just minor warts. What I have seen from Geno Smith is a QB who is great when there isn't any pressure and he has a clean pocket. But when the pressure mounts, I have yet to ever see him rise up and make the plays his team needs to win. It is the same issue I have with Matt Barkley. These are not QBs I would be willing to bet a 1st round pick on.

He did win against top 25 talent - See Clemson, Auburn, and UT over the last few seasons.

You do realize that WVU had the 119th ranked defense this year dont you? I think that might have had something to do with their 7-5 record.

Someone had to throw those 40 td's this year and get Austin the likely Paul Horning trophy and Bailey the runner up for the Biletnikoff(sp) award.
