The irritating part is that if I used a single years stats to say that X was better than Y for literally any other player you would argue that "Stats, and especially a single years stats, do not make a fair comparison".

It's like arguing that EJ Speeds 64.4% completions allowed, and 73 passer rating allowed makes him better than Fred Warner as his stats are worse. Or Bobby Wagners 183 tackles and 3.5 sacks make him better than Warner as his stats are worse.

Terrel Bernard of the Bills had 6.5 sacks, 143 tackles. 71.4% completions allowed and 80.1 passer rating vs 2.5 sacks, 132 tackles, 73.7% passes allowed and 76.6 passer rating.

This is why I pointed out Derwin James. Even though you can argue Thompson had a better year than James, Derwin is considered the better player based upon his history. That said, Alohi Gilman and Josh Metellus and Byrad and a lot of those players aren't that.
