IMO, it's always been about making the college football bowl games happy.

The college football playoff has already made Conference Championship Day feel a little like the Madness.

Win and you’re in games for the Boise’s and ASU’s and Clemson pulling off getting in also.

Why it took college football so long to do this is one of sports greatest mysteries.
Yup. If it’s like this every year and the playoffs are fire we are seeing the birth of December Delerium or December Dementia

Conference championship games will disappear in all likelihood. Won’t take long

I'm not sure how Miami (ranked 12) would beat out Alabama (rank 11) without either of them playing a game. Alabama would be more likely

Truthfully neither should be in but I never doubt NCAA's stupidity.
I’m guessing Sanders wasn’t considering that Big 12 was outside the top 12, so the cutoff line for the CFP at large is really 11 and not 12. If Miami were to make it in, they will have not played and hopped another team that didn’t play - Bama or Indiana. I don’t understand how Bama and Miami can both make it.

I think ASU should file an appeal on the targeting call against Shamari Simmons.

ESPN made a good point at the end of the ACC title game that if SMU gets knocked out because of losing their conference title game, it will disincentivize teams from wanting to make their conference championship games in the future. The conferences probably won’t care, because money, but what if a team in the top 12 theoretically just rested all their starters in their conference championship game and dared the committee to leave them out based on the merits of their regular season work?

Seemed like a pretty textbook definition of forcible contact to the head/neck area to me.

FWIW, CBS projects ASU as the #4 seed.

So there is an appeal process. Interesting. It won’t happen but they should absolutely try

Historic bowl relationships will be considered. More support for ASU going to the Fiesta Bowl?

I’d be surprised if Clemson ended up leapfrogging ASU, but I can see the committee having a tough time with it given that Clemson only lost once in conference and has non-conference losses to the #2 seed and a team on the bubble (especially in light of ASUs non- conference schedule by comparison). I think ASUs dominant win today keeps them in front, but not by much.

I also have a hard time seeing ASU leapfrogging Boise given their one loss was by a field goal to the #1 seed. They definitely don’t have better wins than ASU, but hard to justify that huge a shift in the ratings after both teams had dominant wins this weekend.

Why do you think that? Those conference title games generate huge sums of money. No way those go away.
