The Coyotes have traded right wing Mike Johnson to the Montreal Canadiens for a fourth-round pick in the 2007 NHL draft.

Johnson notched 47 goals and 112 assists in 242 games with the Coyotes over the past five seasons.

Im not sure about this, Johnson is far better than a 4th round pick. On Xm radio they say Eric Lindros is debating between the coytes and the Flames. That would be a stupid signing.

i was going to disagree until i looked at his numbers. wow he has gone downhill fast and has only played a almost season just once with the rangers and only had 55 points. 33 games last year and 22 points

This looks to be a salary dump situation and we can expect other deals to happen after this (please not Lindros). However, only recieving a 4th rounder for a 50+ point scorer is unexceptable.

Not to mention that when the Nagy - Comrie - Johnson line, when healthy, it was by far the best group for the Coyotes.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Unless this is a precursor to another deal, this trade is flat out horrid. The Coyotes offense was already porous, to trade away a solid two-way guy that put up 54 points last year for a measly fourth rounder is ridiculous, especially considering Johnson's chemistry with Nagy and Comrie, plus the fact that he had a bargain of a salary ($1.9M). This trade makes zero sense.

What a ******** move, I really liked Johnson, but he's clearly less valuable than Gratton. I really am at a loss as to where the offense is coming from next year, hopefully we have some excellent trades planned.

Salary cap space, so I except a new signing in the next couple of days.

I personally believe that the Coyotes will acquire some prolific scoring wing via trade, however, I have this feeling that Kvasha will somewhat off-set the loss of Johnson and this is finally the break-thru year that Sjostrom is fully capable having.....

Re-signing Gratton and trading Johnson isnt bad since Gratton along with the addition of Laraque will better serve the team in the sense that they take the abuse off of the top scoring forwards... Giving them that added dimension of a true enforcer that theyve lacked in recent seasons.....

I also feel that Bill Thomas might be the "dark-horse" coming into '06-'07... He seemed to really impress Wayne tremendously and will be more confident...

In terms of the Lindros rumors... please not.....might as well bring back Nedved and Amonte while we're at it.... Those players best suit the Eastern Conference style of play.. bring them to the West and they wont adjust whatsoever.. Hopefully Barrett and co. have finally grasped that concept....
