2nd option seems obvious to me. The only worry is how that new CBA will affect our ability to make moves in the future. Otherwise I love the change of pace to being very aggressive and ballsy.

Yep my exact thoughts. It really sucks they didn't distribute that CBA a year out. I am certain that Durant goes for MUCH less if that document was out already.

I graded the new ownership starting from the day after the KD trade as I don't care to re-hash that move. But since then, I think he's been outstanding and his presence bodes well for our future.

Yeah, that or it would have been nice to be in the loop about the changes that were coming. Kind of curious if Brooklyn knew about these CBA changes when we didn't.

I am a lot worried about this. The new rules are draconian in their attempt to punish spending teams at EXACTLY the moment we get an owner who wants to spend. The player's union is obviously weak right now. The NBA wants to go back to building teams through the draft and creating lifelong player/team loyalty at the time that we traded away the next seven years of draft assets (swaps included).

We will have Book and Beale for the next five years I assume, unless one of them tries to force his way out. Book is a very tradeable asset if we need to rebuild. Beale's contract will get better and more tradeable over time (except for the NTC). But the likelihood is that we will just keep him through his deal. Durant will ALWAYS be tradeable, so there is that.

We gave up too much to get Durant, but I get it. The deal was not happening otherwise.

We will see if there are actually vet min FA's who will actually come here and be a help.

I chose I don't know, because I don't know.

If we have injury issues with any of the big 3 we are supremely screwed. Only time is going to tell.

I like options, so I don't know what to make of the Suns being hamstrung.

The playoff roster in 2022-23 was woefully lacking.

I will withhold my judgement this season until I see what the Suns depth looks like.

Can the Suns operate without tradable draft picks? We are about to find out.

Not saying this new tactic may not work but it sure is nice to see a change considering we have basically taken the same approach since 1968.

Well..... It's not my money and our guy seems to not care about spending his.

Until I see someone flinch..... I have no reason to be worried.

Every NBA team worried about injuries. Even the young guys are getting hurt around the NBA. Every Champion lately has had a run of good health. I like how we have changed from being a pariah franchise that no one wanted to come to, to a favored destination. That says there is a huge change in our franchise. For every team they keep saying the buying a Super Team doesn't work, I think of teams like the Cavs, that Mark Cuban spent to get a Championship.

We are strapped for draft assets to about the max we can be, are beyond the 2nd apron, and our rich owner can't buy picks under that. We forced a trade and gave up a bit much and our top guys have injury histories.

So yeah there is a bit to be concerned about long term.

Am I fine with it, yeah. I'm pretty happy overall.

We're going for it, and have a very nice top heavy roster. Still have Ayton to trade, my guess is near deadline or next off-season if he can't hack Vogels style. Getting beal without giving up Ayton was a great move.

The key will be how much Jones can wring from the scraps to flesh out the roster, this year and the rest of the decade.

But who knows what he will have up his sleeves in the seasons ahead.

If we get a championship, the rest doesn't matter.

I was kinda pissed we gave up soooo much to get KD. But now getting Beal for like nothing, I'm feeling pretty good. It's about freaking time a trade went overwhelmingly in Suns direction. I was worried with just KD/Book as stars, if one went down with injuries we were absolutely screwed. Now with Beal, that fear has been diminished. If we keep Ayton, we need to really buckle down and make good choices on vet minimum players. It may or may not be enough to get by Denver.

I think it's like buying some stuff you really like, KD and Beal, and then moaning about the cost of what it took to acquire those pieces. I get it, most people propose trades like this with the NBA trade checker: We get gold bars, and we give the other team a pile of crap, yep trade works!

It's a strategy. It's like trying to get an airplane to take off. You build up speed on the ground, and once you get going pretty fast, you see if the plane can get into the air. The Suns' ground speed wasn't getting there, so Ishbia basically came in and said Eff It, what can we do to get this plane in the air. Jettisoned extra fuel, dumped the baggage, found a pilot with a bit more recent flying experience.

If it flies, great, everyone's happy, but a spectacular crash is more likely. Personally, I would not want to be on the aircraft while this experiment is being undertaken.

As far as I'm concerned, Ishbia has put together a team that is very likely going to be a high level contender for the next few years AND likely to be extremely entertaining... so that gets an A+ in my book.

Who knows how things will actually play out in reality. There are always countless variables affecting that. But I do know that if Sarver had remained the owner, we would have most certainly been looking at another down spiral very shortly given the conditions of the new CBA. Sarver would most likely be gutting the team within the next couple seasons to avoid coming anywhere near any tax apron. So anyone who isn't happy with the new ownership probably should consider that alternate reality.

I don't see where the Suns had much choice trading for Beal after going all in for Durant.

The backup plan seems to be trading their first round pick for a player every other draft and hoping they are able to attract veteran minimum players.

Also, the Suns need to overpay players like Craig to use for potential trades in the future. The Suns might want to consider keeping Bazley for similar reasons.

No other scenario was going to net them an all-star caliber player.
