That one was a head scratcher. I think his speed was average; nothing explosive. I don't think he sucks, he provides decent depth, but I'd rather have Rashard, Taylor and Andre ahead of him.

As for 3rd fastest? I can think of at least five players on the team faster than him. One of whom plays the same position as Smith (Andre).
He is more than likely the 3rd fastest player on the team, but it is straight line speed and thus doesn't really translate to the RB position. RBs have to be able to get out of the backfield and into space in order to have a chance to utilize that speed. Also keep in mind that his speed is completely unrelated to his quickness which I would say is average.

So DC Jefferson showed up by just showing up? Mystified by what people see in this guy.

A Cardinal TE actually moving defenders instead of defenders moving Cardinal TE's. DC gave Gibson all he wanted Saturday.

Watch the Cards possession from 9:00 in the third to the punt. Jefferson is making some very good blocks.

But DC was also holding using the grab of the jersey under the shoulder pads that never gets called in college but will in the NFL.

I agree Duck. I saw DC moving some guys around pretty good in the run game Sat...at least we have 1 TE who can do that! ;)

Goodness, Houslers blocking last week was atrocious & will eventually cost him playing time. On the very 1st of the game he blocked nobody or Mendenhall would still be running because the play was sealed off except for the guy that #84 waved at who made the play on the edge. :bang:

He missed the block but I disagree Mendenhall would have done much with it. Watch the first play after the fumbled punt recovery. Instead of going right we go left, it's sealed off, Housler pins his man inside(held him) and Mendenhall gets 5 yards on it. That's the play Timmy took to the house 3-4 times when he was here. There's one defender on the left side with a shot at him and he gets him easily for a 5 yard gain.

If you saw the Cards feed, Wolfley is going bananas about what a great hole it is and how well blocked it is and what a great play and I'm thinking "we got 5 yards Ron settle down."

Mendenhall is our best RB right now but I'm not sure how healthy he is, it was surprising how little burst he has on that play a good starting RB probably scores on it(22 yards) or at least gets a first down.

I didn't watch that much of DC but when I did see he missed a couple of blocks, made a couple, and got away with a blatant hold on one run.

So far TE does not appear to be a position of strength to put it mildly.

Jefferson has the physical attributes to be successful. I'm willing to give him more than 6 weeks to adjust to the NFL level of play. I don't think he'll be a contributor much this year but I like his future potential better than that of Housler's. This is Housler's 3rd year and I haven't seen anything out of him.

Like Arians, I also know what we have in Housler. He's a fast guy that can't block and doesn't seem to be open very often.

I still think the Cards had Zach Ertz, TE from Stanford, targeted in round 2 and then traded once he was gone.

I think you all need to look at Jefferson a little differently from our normal TE. He is so big that he has been used like an extra Offensive Tackle being asked to block the opposing DE one on one. I don't think any other TE on the roster can do that. I think that is why the Cards took a flyer on him in the 7th round. As for those who already know he doesn't belong in the NFL just remember George Young's comment about Planet people.

Bill Parcells is a guy that subscribes to the “planet theory” when it comes to players. He learned this from one of his mentors in the NFL, George Young. George Young once told him that there are only so many large people with athletic skills on the planet, and when you get the chance to get one, you do it.

I agree.

Some of these comments remind me of the same things posters were saying about Andre Roberts in his rookie year.

Patience, Patience.

You just see if prospects are worth developing in initial training camps. Making early judgements on first year players is ludicrous. We're talking about a 7th rd. pick having a shot at the 53 or the PS, is pretty much should be the extent of the discussion at this point. Has Shuler shown anything or is he washed up? That probably has more bearing at this point in discussing Jefferson.

As far as Housler, he can do some things out there and is like another receiver if utilized right which Arians has his ways, should be an impact player this year. Hopefully a he stays healthy to take advantage of having a superior offensive mind calling the shots and a legit QB to make it happen. Success does'nt happen in a vacuum in the NFL, neither does failure.

Love Ertz, Stanford really had some quality TE's on that roster the last few years.

on Housler it wasn't always apparent but he actually did improve quite a bit last year.

Last year he had 45 catches in 68 targets, his rookie year it was 12 in 26. Still didn't get in the endzone but could have several times if Kolb or Skelton had got the ball there.

can't block a lick and that's his issue now because Arians wants his TE to block.

Arians says he knows what Housler can do and if he wants to feature him he will. Says he thinks Rob has improved as a blocker, I'm not sure I agree yet but we'll see.
