He is more than likely the 3rd fastest player on the team, but it is straight line speed and thus doesn't really translate to the RB position. RBs have to be able to get out of the backfield and into space in order to have a chance to utilize that speed. Also keep in mind that his speed is completely unrelated to his quickness which I would say is average. That one was a head scratcher. I think his speed was average; nothing explosive. I don't think he sucks, he provides decent depth, but I'd rather have Rashard, Taylor and Andre ahead of him.
As for 3rd fastest? I can think of at least five players on the team faster than him. One of whom plays the same position as Smith (Andre).
So DC Jefferson showed up by just showing up? Mystified by what people see in this guy.
A Cardinal TE actually moving defenders instead of defenders moving Cardinal TE's. DC gave Gibson all he wanted Saturday.
Watch the Cards possession from 9:00 in the third to the punt. Jefferson is making some very good blocks.
But DC was also holding using the grab of the jersey under the shoulder pads that never gets called in college but will in the NFL.
I agree Duck. I saw DC moving some guys around pretty good in the run game Sat...at least we have 1 TE who can do that!
Goodness, Houslers blocking last week was atrocious & will eventually cost him playing time. On the very 1st of the game he blocked nobody or Mendenhall would still be running because the play was sealed off except for the guy that #84 waved at who made the play on the edge.
Jefferson has the physical attributes to be successful. I'm willing to give him more than 6 weeks to adjust to the NFL level of play. I don't think he'll be a contributor much this year but I like his future potential better than that of Housler's. This is Housler's 3rd year and I haven't seen anything out of him.
Like Arians, I also know what we have in Housler. He's a fast guy that can't block and doesn't seem to be open very often.
I still think the Cards had Zach Ertz, TE from Stanford, targeted in round 2 and then traded once he was gone.
Bill Parcells is a guy that subscribes to the “planet theory” when it comes to players. He learned this from one of his mentors in the NFL, George Young. George Young once told him that there are only so many large people with athletic skills on the planet, and when you get the chance to get one, you do it.

I agree.
Some of these comments remind me of the same things posters were saying about Andre Roberts in his rookie year.
Patience, Patience.
You just see if prospects are worth developing in initial training camps. Making early judgements on first year players is ludicrous. We're talking about a 7th rd. pick having a shot at the 53 or the PS, is pretty much should be the extent of the discussion at this point. Has Shuler shown anything or is he washed up? That probably has more bearing at this point in discussing Jefferson.Jefferson has the physical attributes to be successful. Or Ryan Williams
