Some people really hate the concept of a blocking TE. I feel it comes from the corporate mindset of not caring about anything that can't easily be quantified. Key blocks don't show up on the stat sheet.
ESPN did it...these days everyone wants a highlight reel or the player suxx. The instant gratification generation also demands they do it NOW!! NOW!!! NOW!!!
or they suck.......

Reiman had 4 penalties called on him against the Vikings. A couple of them were big, even if 1 seemed to be a really bad call. A blocking TE getting that many penalties in a game has to be pretty rare. He has to be smarter than that, even as a rookie.

Also, he is nearly 275 pounds. The guy is not going to be a major receiving option in this passing game. He is an extra O-lineman who can catch the ball occasionally.

No but that doesn't mean he's a good receiver. Again I like the kid, but you don't normally spend a 3rd rounder on him. I feel like Monti figured because he had so many picks he wanted to make sure he got Tip and used a 3rd to do so
Was he a fit pick? Did MO feel running two TE sets were going to a prominent part of our offense. How big a role did Rieman contribute to our rather successful running game?

Just a reminder that we traded the pick that was Sam LaPorta away and took OJulari the year before.

So we completely could have had that offense.
Why, why would you remind me of this, you farging bastage?

In my dream world, we would somehow be able to afford the luxury of taking Tyler Warren in the draft. Imagine him on one side and McBride on the other.

Sadly we have painted ourselves into the dline corner.

Reiman is special. He blocks as well as many defensive linemen. However he has better agility allowing him to block better on the move. He could well develop into one of the top blocking TEs in the NFL. He also will develop as a receiver. He won’t be a big producer in this area, but could be a Max Williams type. With the team wanting to use multiple TE sets and run, he’s a solid addition.
Exactly! And let’s not forget that one of MOJG’s main goals when they came here was to build a “violent” football team. As someone who’s watched this franchise since the early 60’s, the one thing we have NEVER been is PHYSICAL. Even the good Cardinal teams, albeit few, were NEVER physical teams. The 2023 team had very little talent, but came to play, and teams may have beaten us, but they walked away bruised in the process. The 2024 team had more talent, were just as physical, and doubled their wins from 2023. We drafted 23 players & so many of these guys will show tremendous improvement going into 2025. Those critical of MOJG’s first 2 drafts are being shortsighted and confused about the ultimate goal of sustainable success. Make no mistake, the culture of this team has already been set in stone. The underbelly of this team has been set too. The next phase is to continue to add the kind of talent they’re looking for to get to the next level and beyond. I could not be more happy and excited about the future of this franchise. Injuries may have slowed things down some, but not much you can do about that. Character, culture, draft, develop are already in place. Now, add more talent & watch out. This team could be significantly better than people on this board even want to realize.
