Be as vague or as specific as you want.

Working on it.

Its an interesting offseason, and believe it or not, the scariest part is the offensive line. I really do not see anything out in free agency to bring in. Granted Veldheer, Iupatit, and Humphries are here, but I have NO IDEA what the Cardinals will do at guard and center.....NONE.

Would anyone be adverse to putting Donta Hightower and Karlos Dansby at ILBer next year ? Maybe move Deone Bucanon back to safety ?

I think Alshon Jeffery is a UFA. He's my number 1 target on the free agent market. Tag/re-sign Jones and get CC to sign a fair deal. I would love Reuben Foster in round 1 but Raekwon McMillan in round 2 would be a pretty good consolation prize. Hell, I'd even take them 1-2 and move Buccanon to safety.

I'm also really starting to like the WR Davis that Bucky pointed out to me from Western Michigan. My first round preferences are:
1- Foster
2- Mike Williams
3- Davis

I think there's a chance Deshaun Watson is there in round 2 for the Cards as well.

That draft is a recipe for disaster. I'm all about the BPA theory. If you draft for need you will undoubtable reach. Fill your needs in FA and draft the best players available no matter the position.

I agree to a point.

You cannot go strictly BPA, or your get what we had last draft. This team needs to take some ILBers in later rounds, and instead they drafted so many defensive backs that they couldn't be kept on the roster.

BPA is great, but if your a cutting the player before he ever sees the regular season because of the number of players already at the position, then its like throwing away your draft pick.

THere has to be some consideration of what you have on the roster

jeffery is injured constantly. I had him on my fantasy team the last 2 year, auto draft, and literally every week he's got some nagging leg injury that has him missing practices etc.

Maybe he'd do better in warm weather with the legs who knows, when healthy he's very good but he's NEVER healthy.

The other thing with BPA is people seem to ignore you can trade. If we're sitting at whatever and we want Reuben Foster but the BPA is someone else, you can trade back, still get Foster, and get something else. There's a risk of course someone else takes Foster but you don't have to just take a guy you love too "early" you can move back a few spots and get him.

That's what good teams do in the draft they maximize the value of the pick both in BPA and getting what they need, by moving around.

I love how we now judge player talent, based on their Fantasy stats, etc...sign of the times, I suppose.

Or maybe we judge him by being one of the better WR's in the game. I agree he has to stay healthy but he could be the guy the Cards wanted Floyd to be and is a perfect fit in this offense.

But as for the fantasy stats analysis, most of the better players put up better stats. I mean I'd take fantasy studs Julio Jones or Antonio Brown on the Cards, but that's just me.

I get that and the BPA theory does take need into consideration. I mean if the actual BPA is say a WR and you're stacked at the position and the next guy is say a CB and he is what you believe to the second best player available and your weak at that position, well by all means your taking the CB. What the OP was describing is taking a (blank) position player in this round and a (blank) player in the next round. That is what is called reaching. IMO

Not on his stats but on being available. He played 9 games last year but was limited in several of them as well. This year he's played in 10, missed 4, been limited in several of the games he's played in. He has 6 td passes in his last 2 years, 19 games, from a guy who is a great redzone threat but he's always dinged up.

He has constant leg issues, if you look at him big guy skinny legs I don't know if it's just body type, if he doesn't like cold weather, but he's missing practices and games constantly due to legs.

The reason I know this, not being a Bears fan, is that I got so sick of every week having to decide to play him or not at the last second, that I got rid of him this year.

Personally, I think if the window is small and Cards are still 'all in', they should try to pry Marshall away from Jets. IMO, he's who they thought Floyd would be more like...big, physical, sneaky fast, can high point a ball, etc....oh, and he's never played in a playoff game...talk about motivated!

I like Marshall...he's a big physical receiver that the Cards need on the outside. However...he has and always will have butter-fingers...he drops passes at critical points in the game. So you'll get some great catches from him that most receivers wouldn't make, and then on a key 3rd down late in the game...he'll inexplicably drop it. Still...he's better than Nelson, or Brown...

He will be a cap casualty, he counts for $0 dead money if they cut him. Maybe a trade works out for us or we can get him as a UFA, but I would like him for a year or two.

I love Marshall terrific redzone guy, probably too expensive but depends what we do with other guys.

He may not chase $ at this stage of his career...he wants to win and win badly...again, has never even played in a playoff game.

Sign a kicker that doesn't need a pep talk just to make an XP.

Start laying the groundwork for extending David Johnson before he gets even more expensive.

I know we have been burned in the past with TE's, but this is one of the best classes in a while. If we miss out on Williams and Davis, there doesn't seem to be much left for big, physical WR's. I wonder if drafting a TE in rounds two or three is a possibility?

OH!

Gotcha. Yeah, I agree. The best thing you can do is give a position a range of rounds, and even that gets dicey.

There is so much that goes into a draft as it pertains to outside influence. Playing the odds ? The Cardinals don't draft a QB after the 3rd round. Yet you say that, and then guys like Dak Prescott, and Russell Wilson prove you wrong.

Regardless, If all else fails, go BPA.

Been saying it off and on for awhile so here goes.

Minter gone.

Keep both CC and Jones if financially possible which I believe it is.

Move Deonne to SS.

Draft first round Reuben Foster ILB Alabama
Draft second round Adoree Jackson CB USC

My base defense is Campbell, Peters and hopefully Nkemdiche if he develops since I'm losing Rucker to FA. if he's not ready maybe Mauro who I think is better than Gunter.

The Lb's left to right Golden, Foster, Sio Moore and Chandler Jones.

The DB's are Peterson, Mathieu, Bucannon and Adoree Jackson.

the obvious risks are financial impact of keeping CC AND Jones, Sio Moore as a starting LB, Deonne moving to safety and another rookie starting at CB in Jackson.

My take, CC and Jones are still good players and worth the financial risk. Sio Moore was a very talented LB in Oakland, he got traded largely because they were trying to change the makeup of the team when Del Rio came in and Moore was a young cocky guy who would make great plays and then blow his assignment, Del Rio preferred a more consistent guy even if he was less talented. Since them Moore has played for the Colts and the Chiefs. I am hoping he has learned enough bouncing around the last 2 years to settle down, he's still a very good athlete. My hedge on Moore is obvious, if it turns out he's simply not the guy, you just move Deonne back to LB. I'd like to keep Jefferson if financially possible, don't know if that will work if not Swearinger, I'm not sure we can afford to keep both unless we release Bethel discussed below.

it's still a very fast defense, the potential for pass rush is outstanding with Golden and Jones and Campbell, Moore was a very good blitzer in Oakland, Foster is a great athlete. Adoree Jackson will be one of the 4-5 best athletes in the draft, his issue at USC has always been consistency he gambles too much, he loses concentration at times, he'll need coaching but what better guy to learn from than Peterson and in addition to playmaking ability at CB, he's an elite return guy 4 KO returns for TD's and 4 punt returns for TD's in his 3 year career.

On offense I'm assuming Palmer and Fitz stick around and I'm assuming we get Jaron Brown back in time for opening games. The tough part is not knowing John Brown who could easily retire but I'm hoping he sticks it out. Fitz, Jaron, Nelson and John Brown if healthy means you can draft a WR later on or pick up a guy in FA. If John Brown is not healthy that means WR becomes more of a priority.

Palmer at QB, David Johnson at RB. OL left to right is DJ Humphries, Mike Iupati, Evan Boehm, ?, and Jared Veldheer. RG really depends on WR if you have to draft a WR in the 3rd round you probably can't get a starting RG in the draft and need to sign one or start a current player none of whom have impressed.

Get a new long snapper and punter, keep Catanzaro. I'd try to keep Bethel but I'm not sure what you do there he's WAY overpaid as a ST guy and I don't think he can be relied on as a CB. I'd probably try to move him to S, his biggest issue at CB is tracking the ball in the air with his back to it, but I'm not sure he's just not a guy who's a ST guy only in which case you probably have to let him go.

At this point I think Kerwynn Williams is the backup RB.

I think this is pretty much a food as we can expect for the defense.

-Re-sign Campbell and Jones. We will have to use the tag on one.
-Draft a starting ILB.
-I agree 100% on moving Bucannon to SS. It is similar to when Rolle was playing CB. You knew he wasn't going to be a long term answer at CB, move him to a better spot. You can still use him as an ILB in nickel.
-Add a CB and FS.

Offensively
-OT and LG are locked in.
-You can't afford to move on from Palmer or Fitz.
-The only way you keep Ellington is as a WR.
-K Williams adds something to the offense.
-C & RG. One can probably be added in FA and the other in the draft.
-A WR needs to be added.
-TE needs to either remain the same, or draft one in round 2.

I'd love Brandon Marshall and almost used him as an example as who the Cards should target in a trade.

2 buddies who are Washington fans say Jackson is expected to leave. But he no longer wants to return punts which makes him less attractive to me but still a viable deep threat WR. Always wanted him here.

Nothing wrong with drafting according to BPA while filling position-needs via all means available (including free agency and trades).

One other factor that should not be ignored: the physical/athletic profile of the position you're filling (i.e. it's not enough to look for a "good wideout" - you may need a 6-3 tough guy who's deadly in traffic or in the red zone. Or maybe there's a bigger need for a courageous 5-10 route-runner).). If you believe in the concept of the $LB, you may be on the lookout for a big, versatile dude who can back up Bucannon.

One thing Belichick excels in is finding just the right guy to slot into a well-tailored position that can help the team win.
