Who are your current top 5 players at each position? I'm sure I'll forget someone completely obvious.

PG:
1. Deron Williams
2. Chris Paul
3. Steve Nash
4. Rajon Rondo
5. Tony Parker

Honorable mentions: Russell Westbrook, Derrick Rose

SG:
1. Kobe Bryant
2. Dwyane Wade
3. Brandon Roy
4. Joe Johnson
5. Andre Iguodala

Honorable mentions: Tyreke Evans, Manu Ginobli

SF:
1. Lebron James
2. Kevin Durant
3. Carmello Anthony
4. Paul Pierce
5. Rudy Gay

Honorable mentions: Danny Granger, Caron Butler

PF:
1. Tim Duncan
2. Chris Bosh
3. Dirk Nowitzki
4. Amar'e Stoudemire
5. Pau Gasol

Honorable mentions: Al Horford, Carlos Boozer,

C:
1. Dwight Howard
2. Yao Ming
3. Chris Kaman
4. Andrew Bogut
5. Brook Lopez

Honorable mentions: Joakim Noah, Andrew Bynum

SG and SF were the toughest because there is a big drop off after the top 3 or so; You could make a case for a number of guys at #'s 4 and 5 at those positions. Center is pretty thin after the top two as well

Nice list and I agree for the most part but would have Granger ahead of Pierce and Gay and I can't see how Bosh is ahead of Dirk. I think Dirk is easily the best PF and with Duncan playing almost exclusively at C last year(may change with addition of Splitter) I don't think there is much separating the rest of the top PF.

This is a good list. I just cannot get excited about the centers other than Howard.

You're choosing rookies that haven't played a minute in the NBA and they are all of a sudden top 5 in their positions??

So?

Was Paul a top 5 PG as a rookie? Yes.

Was James a top 5 player as a rookie? Yes.

The list goes on... Howard, Duncan, Shaq, Roy etc.. especially the center position is not deep and Cousins could easily be in the top 5 right away.

Tyreke Evans was a top 5 shooting guard last season as a rookie.

Curry over Rose Nash and Westbrook :doi:

Over Nash might be questionable but easily over the other 2 by a large margin. Curry was already better than either for the 2nd half of last season. He'll be on top of the list soon with Wall.

as a rookie:

Paul nope - Nash/Bibby/Arenas/James/Parker/Billups/Cassell/Kidd were all better

Howard nope - Shaq/Ming/Okafor/Ilg/Big Ben....even the likes of Brezec, KT, and Okur put up similar numbers

Roy not even CLOSE - i could name close to 15 better SG his rookie season.

not that these guys didnt show potential, but teams with these players would have been better off without these kids as rookies and someone else in their place.

How wrong you are.. Paul was instant impact and put up 16/8/5/2 as a rookie. Clearly top 5 and better than Cassell, Parker, Bibby, Arenas and Parker..

Brandon Roy's 17/4/4/1 was also good enough to be top 5 at his position in my opinion anyway. Try to name 5 clearly better shooting guards.

Numbers aren't everything Howard was clearly better than Brezec, Ilgauskas, Okur, Kurt Thomas and co.

I'll go a different route.
I'll put together a team of current players that i'd like to put on the floor and let loose against anyone, anywhere, anytime.:D
My 2010/11 All-Unbeatable Team: 12 players

PG-Chris Paul/Rajon Rondo
SG-Kobe/Dwayne Wade
SF-LeBron/Kevin Durant
PF-Dirk Nowitzki/Amare Stoudemire
C-Dwight Howard/Al Horford

2 reserve's:
PF/C-Joakim Noah
PF/C- My boy ROBIN LOPEZ baby!!

The majority of the talent is at the 1, 2 and 3 positions. There seems to be a drop of talent looking at the 4/5s after Nowitzki and Howard. If this is typical of the entire NBA maybe the Suns are not that far off with their roster. Also, what happened to Bosh and Gasol?

Drop off? Offensively maybe....the suns frontline is D-leaguish if compared to the current frontlines of many NBA teams IMO. There's nothing there.

Back to fantasy....:D I had to choose between Dirk and Gasol and i took Dirk.
Bosh is a valid omission i guess,I think he's a tad overrated though.
With the defensive talent at center i chose to load up on 2 strictly offensive-minded PF's (at least thats my story & i'm sticking to it ;))

Honestly, putting Kobe & LBJ on the same team is ludicrous and if i had to take only one i'm kicking LBJ off.>>>insert Carmelo Anthony at SF.

All I'm saying is there is a ton of talent in the NBA at the 1, 2, and 3 positions which makes sense since quality 4/5s are harder to get. Your post was just a refresher of this fact.

Granger is probably the third best SF right now. He's the most underrated player in the NBA.

And I'd take Ginobli over Igoudala every day and Tuesday, even an aging, broken down, only-shows-up-every-three-games-until-the-playoffs Ginobli.
