Hello 2018 compensatory picks!

Campbell has had one foot out the door for a year now.

Funny thing about Jefferson---BA said the other day that "I hope he doesn't lose that chip on his shoulder when he gets paid." While I do not believe TJ will keep that chip, the fact that this was on BA's mind could be yet another indication that the Cardinals have never quite been sold on Jefferson as a core player.

People will say---but the Cardinals tried to re-sign both CC and TJ---but BA&SK knew all along what they were doing and they have been feigning interest in re-signing them to appease the fans.

I am not saying this is wrong (in light of the Monopoly money they are getting elsewhere)...but CC and TJ were the two best tacklers on the team last year on a team that does not tackle very well. Swearinger was the 3rd best...but rumors are they aren't that high on keeping him either. The Cardinals have a plan---it will be interesting to see what it is.
I actually think Jefferson is going to be missed more than CC will be.

Current speculation I read somewhere on Twitter is that Jags are paying CC close to Olivier Vernon money.

Olivier Vernon signed a 5 year, $85,000,000 contract with the New York Giants, including a $20,000,000 signing bonus, $52,500,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $17,000,000. In 2017, Vernon will earn a base salary of $11,750,000 and a workout bonus of $250,000. Vernon has a cap hit of $16,000,000 while his dead money value is $27,750,000.

The Jags play a 4-3...will they be playing CC at DT or DE? He's never been a very good edge rusher.

Just speculation
Totally insane if it is real
Vernon was 25 and play a more attractive position

Can't fault a guy for taking the cash. Only one team wins the Super Bowl every year but he'll have his money. And that's not bashing him. Wishing we could've kept him but thankful for his years here.

BASK, let's see what you have up your sleeve!

True. Plus, Tom Coughlin is already putting his fingerprints on turning the Jags around. They have a ton of young talent. Now they need veteran leaders. Good move by TC.

14 mil a season for Campbell? Holy crap. Good for him. No way in hell we could do that. I hope he excels but man that's a rich deal

Yeah... it sucks to lose that leadership but would you have paid him that scratch?
Nope. You tip your cap to CC and thank him for his nine years of service.

I think fans would've been more pissed off for retaining him at $14 mil/year than for letting him walk.

Another Dansby willing to go anywhere for the cashola. Funny thing is, he could have got a crap ton of money AND gone somewhere with a chance to compete.

Don't think he would've gotten 14mill from anywhere else though.

Always try to get the max, regardless of location, especially in a league that doesn't love you.

The mistake was in not franchising Campbell. Did the Cards really need to franchise Jones to negotiate a long term deal with him? The market for stud pass rushers is pretty well set, and we would be a much better with both Jones and Campbell.

I wouldn't invest in Campbell for 3-4 years, but our window is extremely small. If we could have just come to terms with Jones, we wouldn't even have had to commit long term to Campbell.

Hopefully it doesn't come back to bite us, but Calais is a huge loss.

pretty sure CC was not going to sign any short term deals... this is likely his last NFL contract

When a team franchise tags you, you have no choice but to play under that tag for a year unless your able to agree to a longterm deal with the team that franchise tagged you.

He would've had no choice but to play under the tag if the Cardinals wanted that.

I'm not completely sure of the rules of the F-tag, but I believe there is a clause in it that states, he would get a 20% raise from last year. That would mean we would have had to pay him somewhere close to that 14 mil, which we could not afford. If I remember correctly.

Why are people still talking like this? Relax, it's gonna be ok. You sound like the fat girl that got boned by the guy taking one for the team to help his buddy out and never got a call back. Stop calling him. It's pointless. Campbell made it blatantly obvious to anyone and everyone with a brain last offseason that '16 was his last year with the Cardinals. Playing the "what if" game is a waste of time. Furthermore, I'm not bothered by this. Good luck to both Campbell and Jefferson. They played hard while they were here and were good ambassadors for the team. We will get some decent comp picks and while they were good players, they aren't leaders, Campbell wasn't intelligent and neither was a current captain. We will survive.

This makes sense to me now. I got a text saying I wasn't going to be happy but had no idea. Now, I do. I asked why steal our DE? His answer was funny, we were 3-13, we need good players.
