I read all the over the top reactions to the Cards’ loss this Sunday. Of course none of us are happy. Still you’d think the Cards’ coaching staff deceived or betrayed everyone. In my opinion I think we should be congratulating them for giving us meaningful December games. It’s been awhile. Put aside the fact that the Cards, with an offense focused on running, finished the game with their top 3 RBs disabled. Do you doubt that had Connor not been injured the Cards likely win the game? I’ll conceded they played badly, but how many teams lose to inferior opponents at some point? The timing was bad, but the injury list was unreal. You could almost put together a starting lineup from that list. Murray played poorly. Is that really news? I’m okay with disappointment. Some frustration is reasonable. Verbal assault is over the top. How many predicted this team to be fighting for a playoff spot in December?

This year was progress. With a good offseason the Cards will be positioned for bigger things. This team gave us an exciting year. They had some gutsy finishes and were fun to watch for the most part. I’m just saying let’s not let the disappointment get out of proportion with the accomplishments. Maybe some distance will yield more perspective. I’d rather look forward to an offseason that promises to be result changing. I’m sure some will attack this post as glass half full rhetoric. For me it’s about getting real about this season as a whole.

The problem isn't the record improvement over last year. It's the collapse after the bye and how horrible they are playing. Everyone looked at the schedule and felt it would be much easier after the bye. Injuries certainly can be blamed but all teams have them. It is just disappointing seeing that we continue to perform poorly in the critical month of December. It has become a pattern since Bruce Arians time here. I've been a season ticket holder for over 30 years and find little joy being a Cardinal fan during the holiday season. Time to start looking at the draft again. :bang:

Meaningful games in December could be related to a generally down year for the division?

More parity among the division members was more likely the reason.

We really didn’t factor into the wildcard slots or did we?

I agree once the water clears we improved considerably but the injuries took a heavy toll.

I did mention I thought our starting 8 game gauntlet would beat up this team to the point we would struggle to win games in our so called easy part of the schedule. Ahhh, the only thing about the season I called right unfortunately:(

I don't call losing 4 of the last 5 with the likelihood of at least losing 1 or even both of our remaining games progress at all. The team is in meltdown mode, the coaching staff suddenly can't prepare the team, the offense functions like a misfiring Yugo, we have a choker checkdown Charlie QB, we are devoid of talent on defense, and we have an uber conservative GM who doesn't have the balls to spend to the cap or an owner who won't let him. I call all of that the opposite of progress. We might win 3 or 4 more games after an awful year last year, and still show no sign of being anything like a playoff team. Yay!

This team was anything but fun to watch.

The offensive side of the ball was a train wreck.one demential football we lose to every good defensive coordinator in the NFL and we did this season.

The penalties to close out the year are not fun to watch and show an undisciplined team under JG.

Players still not knowing their assignments are not fun to watch.

Not being prepared post bye is not fun to watch.

K1 gagging in big games is not fun to watch.

This team is a long way from competing with real NFL talent.

Anything to excuse everyone and solely blame Kyler. Lame
Kyler deserves a majority of the blame, but nobody is blameless. Brit can pretend all he want otherwise.

Monti messed up badly in FA & his drafting looks suspect atm. That’s a Monti problem.

It seems like we have just racked up on a boatload penalties after the BYE on both sides of the ball. That’s a Gannon problem.

Marvin just doesn’t seem aggressive enough at the catch-point. That’s a Marvin problem.

Bidwill is Bidwill.

But like I mentioned earlier, Kyler does deserve a majority of the blame & I believe it’s best if him & the franchise go their separate ways in the offseason.

While we improved, this was a failure of a season. It's okay to adjust expectations mid season, and we had the right to, considering we went on that win streak. As bad as this division was, had we found ways to steal winnable road games we would STILL be alive for the division. It's a tale of two halfs as has been the case with this damn team for too long. I'm in morning today. We didn't have to be here.

"You are what your record says you are" and right now we've got 7 wins verses 4 wins for all of last year. It doesn't matter whether you win 7 in a row at the beginning or end of the season, or win every other game.

The team has improved over last year, but it's still discouraging to see us lose 4 out of the last 5. The sad truth is that this was never a playoff roster. The front seven is still woefully undermanned and the downfield passing game is non-existent.

It's fair to say this year we got to the next level Harry. You're right.

But wow, did the team fail big time in terms of succeeding at the next level.

Not exactly hopeless, but there's plenty of concern the leaders of this franchise are capable of getting the team to an NFL championship game.

It's going to be a long, and particularly bitter offseason my friend. :)

I will not blast your post. All I asked for was meaningful games in December and we got to Christmas.
There’s a lot to build on. Our db room is looking great. Our o-line if nothing else has depth. Our Rb room looks good.
This team played hard all year long. I like Gannon and I’m not changing my views on him.
If there is someone out there that could convince me Petzing was the problem and it isn’t Kyler I’d be ecstatic. But I’ve seen this movie too many times now.

I said in another post winning breeds disappointment. The more you win, the bigger the disappointment when you fail to win.

Last year we won 4 games and we were giddy the way the season ended boosting optimism for this year.
Ironically, we will win more games, we were in the playoff hunt and we are totally disappointed.

I think the thing that dragging us down is the mediocre play of Kyler.
Get Kyler to stay in the pocket and he’ll be better.
Get Kyler some big wrs and he’ll be better.
Give Kyler a running game and he’ll be better.
Get Kyler healthy and he’ll be better.
Get Kyler a year to learn this offense and he’ll be better.
Where does it end?

Kyler will be here next year. I wish and hope as much as anybody that he succeeds. I just don’t think he will. That’s what dashes my hopes.

On a general basis I agree with you. The issue is, this season fully 100% confirmed kyler ain’t the guy. And that’s the single most important position in all of sports (imo) to get right if you want to be a year-in-year-out contender. So to a degree it feels like everything else was for naught. QB is not only such a crucial position, but it’s also one of the most difficult to fill.

The problem is, he's not going anywhere next year, and even if we could miracle that, there's nobody in this draft to bring in. So you could journeyman someone behind him to take the reins in 2026 when we draft the elusive QBOF with some mid first or 2nd round pick, and the cycle of firing everyone and starting over begins again.

I've seen this film before, and I didn't like the ending.

It’s not one or the other… There are a host of issues to address. However, it’s not at all unreasonable to have expected Kyler, a #1 overall pick and a QB being paid a gazillion now in his 6th season, to have led this team to victory yesterday.

I never saw this team as a post season team, so the fact that they’re won’t be in again this year is not at all surprising to me.
That said, they had a very, very winnable game yesterday to keep their playoff chances alive. And they needed their QB to step up and do what other top tier QB’s do - win a game late in the season against an inferior team.
Once again, Murray came up short…

This was a should win game, injuries be damned. The defense allowed 20 out the gate and Kyler brain farted a pick late that drained precious time, and MHJ dropped his ass on key plays in OT. Our two "best" offensive players crumbled, our real best was hobbled on the sideline, and our other best was ignored down the stretch.

Just a microcosm of what this team currently is. Why I renew tickets is beyond me.

We have improved by 3 games IN TWO SEASONS. That's not any kind of true improvement, especially given the total team meltdown lately.

if kyler sucks at the end of seasons and in certain systems let's abandon the pocket passer for a minute and game plan around his skill set - then we can inexplicably trade him before the trade deadline while we're leading our division lol

Winning four games last season was a choice made by the front office. The team improved over the previous season because we've had 15 games from a starting-caliber QB.

I usually agree the sequence of wins doesn't matter, but it's hard to build a progress narrative when you're 6-4 in the first 10 games and 3-4 in the last seven (at best!). Gannon is likely to go into 2025 with a warm seat, and facing a stronger division schedule.

losing out would make this season more of a success

Only if you want to get this coaching staff fired, honestly.

nah i like the staff kinda somewhat so far - and mikey watched the same games we did - same defense we did

d-rob and mhj just didn't hit this year but they didn't draft kyler murray - and he'd be the reason we lose the next two

Nope. I genuinely like all the staff and the GM.

Rallis has made lemonade with lemons. JG has got most of the in game calls right and set the culture. Petzing get's a lot of crap but the scheme is fine, there are routes downfield, there are guys open.

It's as simple as Kyler is just really bad. I don't know how people don't get that. When your QB sucks your team sucks.

You know how when a team loses their starting QB and a backup comes in and the production drops massively? Well that's us, with a permanent backup level guy at QB.
