    Bill Simmons on the Cards

I would have agreed several years ago, but when the Patriots were dominant and the Red Sox won the Series he got annoying. At this point, he's pretty much insufferable in my book.

Paul? And whaddaya know, he won the NL MVP award in 1927! :D

Waner for MVP Article on SI

Again, the MVP is announced before the playoffs even start. Publicity from a playoff run means nothing when it hasn't happened yet.

    Curb your Enthusiasm

There's some reason for enthusiasm. The Football Outsiders stat people have the Cardinals at #6 right now, and while their system isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, it's also pretty darned good at predicting outcomes once a few weeks have gone by. They've got the Cards at #6...

Waner for MVP Article on SI

Yup. It's announced before the postseason even gets started. Going deep into the playoffs doesn't have an effect.

Is Larry Fitzgerald now the best WR in the game?

Ain't nobody I'd take ahead of him at this point.

Waner for MVP Article on SI

The last time a wide receiver won the MVP award (the AP one that's the main award) was... never. Seriously. There's only three non QBs or RBs that have ever won, and none since 1986. Fitz would have to go utterly unconscious, plus have half his receptions come from Leinart, to have much of a...

Most likely: Cards win division or no playoffs.

Just gotta take care of business against the other division teams. Five division games remaining. Win those, that guarantees 9-7, and the other teams almost certainly won't be able to catch up.

    Interpretation of "off side" penalty

If they'd had any timeouts, they would have called one. And as Fiasco said, the game can't end on a defensive penalty. They could have taken the shot to the endzone, and regardless of what happened, could have moved the ball five yards closer for the FG try even if there was no time left on...

    Yup. Ridiculous, Duckjake. ;)

    i love warner

Just be happy if he makes the pro bowl. If he's at that level, the Cardinals should be doing very well.

ROMO out for a month -Cowherd

Favre had a hairline crack in his thumb that didn't significantly affect his grip. The pinky can. Warner missed five games in 2000 because of a broken pinky, and you know he wanted to play.

    Romo Out for a Month?

In 2000, it was Warner with the injury, (broken pinky on throwing hand) and he tried to talk the coaching staff into taping it to the ring finger and letting him play the next week. Instead he had surgery to put in pins and missed five games. That was also the week the Rams signed Bulger to...

Replay on Fitz td that was overturned

I thought it was a pretty clear case of there not being indisputable visual evidence. Thankfully, the Cards scored again, and it wasn't meaningful. Sometimes I'm not sure that the refs are all that clear on the concept that a guy's entire foot doesn't have to come down in bounds if the first...

    Why 5 yards tacked on?

Because the penalty was on the play where Romo spiked the ball at the 40, not the pass play that got them to the 40.

    Interpretation of "off side" penalty

*shrug* Regardless, what should have happened was a timeout called from the sidelines right before the Cowboys got the snap off, avoiding the penalty and still running almost all the time off the clock.

    What a win!!

Which would be funny, given how many teams are still running the Bill Walsh "West Coast Offense".

Arz 30 Dal 24: Special Victory

This game was a QB meat-grinder. Tons of hits by both sides.

    Troy Aikman

Even at the end, I thought he was more wowed by the events than upset as a Cowboy. I actually commented to my wife that I thought he'd done a superb job of being balanced, and that he's become one of my favorite commentators.

    Hats off to Kurt Warner

He is tough. You can question Warner's ability, particularly his ability to hang onto the football, but if you question his toughness or his will to win, you're insane, IMO. Some of those hits today... man. The Cowboys got to tee off on him a bunch of times.

I was praying he wouldn't do it... best time for the opposition's kicker to try a kick is after he's stood around watching the referees have a nice conversation for 10 minutes. Not after you've just given him a warmup kick.

Y'know when would have been a good time to use that timeout, Ken Whisenhunt? When they were about to snap the ball and LaBoy was offside, THAT'S WHEN!
