    Hillenbrand back at first

Now this definitely sucks. Makes one feel punished for trading Curt.

Please throw Mark Grace out of the booth!

Some of my friends were listening to MLB-TV for tonight's game which had Brennaman and Grace. MLB TV apparently this year does not block out the announcers between innings when the commercials are run. He was saying that when guys are on base he used to talk to them about all the p*ssies in the...

The Official Anti Danny Bautista Rant Thread!

you do realize that Tracy, Gonzo and Fins would be three left handers in a row? Come the 8th inning or so the obligatory left-handed reliever will be brought in to pitch to the 3 lefties and then a righty will pitch to the rest of the line-up. I'm not big on lefty/righty matchups but you...

    Falling in love with Tracy

So Chad Tracy gets his first sniff of the majors and Robby Hammock comes back up from injury and the team starts playing much better baseball. Coincidence? Nah. Last year they played better when the kids came up too. They seem to bring a certain joy de vivre to the game that can't be topped.

    Official Anti ESPN Jinx Thread

Well, shutting them down on the scoreboard, but you can't be a successful relief pitcher and allow 4 baserunners in 2 innings. Got to watch the game last night and it reminded me why I liked Chad Tracy. I thought he looked awfully good when I saw him play in spring training. I was...

The Official Anti Danny Bautista Rant Thread!

This reminded me of a funny story that Phillies phans tell about the late great Richie Ashburn who, god rest his soul, finished his career with the 1962 Mets, possibly a team even more hapless than the 2003 Tigers. You know the team that inspired many a Casey Stengel joke as in "What do you...

The Official Anti Elmer Dessens Rant Thread!

Louie, I think that the best explanation is that he simply isn't that good. He doesn't miss bats enough. In 2002, he was simply lucky. A really good sabermetric stat that explains it is the batting average of balls in play (BABIP). In 2002 it was very low, which probably explained his good ERA...

    Why is Randy Choate...

I hate people that say "I told you so", but geez, I can't resist. Here is what I said about the trade. BTW I hated getting Reynolds and Alomar, too.

The Official Anti-Diamondback Bullpen rant thread

As an aside, reading the box score I was trying to figure out how Koplove got a blown save when he pitched .2 innings with no hits, walks and two strikeouts. The recap says there was an error by Hilly on a grounder sent to him that he threw to Hammock in the dirt. But nonetheless, Koplove...

The Official Anti Elmer Dessens Rant Thread!

2002 was Dessens' career year. It wasn't his norm. Joe Jr. made the mistake of thinking that the Dessens of 2002 was the "real" Dessens and traded Durazo for him and gave him the two year contract. Stupid thinking on his part. What you saw last year is what you get, what Dessens has pretty...

The Official Anti Matt Mantei Rant Thread!

The D-Backs had the wild card lead, if at all, only very briefly like a day or two. The Phillies pretty much led the wild-card the whole way until they crappolaed the last two weeks of the season. I think it was less too much too choose from than it changed the whole chemistry of the team...

    Brenly

Actually I think Brenly is a pretty good manager for this team. The D-Backs are rebuilding. For the most part, young players have done pretty well under Brenly. I can think of few who didn't thrive when given the chance. Prinz did very well in 2001 (injury ruined him). Spivey, Koplove in...

    Why is Randy Choate...

Agreed. Don't need em. Better to get a pitcher who gets guys out, period.

That is what all home run hitters not named Barry Bonds do. Goes with the territory. Power + lots of walks + striking out = power hitter.

    Lou's Views #1: Alomar's Injury A "Blessing In Disguise?"

I criticized the Alomar signing from the beginning. I believed he was washed up and that the DBacks, being a rebuilding team should give the youngsters a chance. The veteran future hall of famer means nothing if his skills have declined to the point where he isn't even an average second baseman.

Alomar on the DL, Tracy Recalled

For those who want to see Terrero in Phoenix - two words - Donnie Sadler.

    Travis Lee

Geez I hate it when people based on their own personal experience make a comment about a player being a bad fan guy. Back in 2002 when the Phillies played the D-Backs in Arizona I was standing at the railings and Travis came up to talk to a friend of his wife. The whole time he talked he...

    Yankee fans are pissed

Probably something to do with the fact that ARod is a much better shortstop than Jeter.

    What players need to sit?

Who did they demote? They were going with 12 pitchers.

    Gonzo's throwing arm........and my thoughts

Gosh Zenny, don't confuse the issue with actual numbers. But it does make sense to bring up Terrero. I'd throw Randy Choate off the roster in a heartbeat (or some other reliever) to get that extra bat and outfielder.

For those against the Sexson trade

I love Richie Sexson, I have him on both my fantasy teams. What will tell the tale of this trade is if they are able to keep him after this year. You can't measure the trade by this year's numbers because the D-Backs will be lucky to make the playoffs (sorry) so having one year of Sexson...

    Travis Lee

Travis made some very nice defensive plays that saved the Yankees some runs. I'd bet that he gets to start for the Yankees a lot, because Giambi is such a butcher and the team infield defense is so lousy. Giambi will DH and Travis start at first.

    At San Diego series thread

Well I blanched when they signed Choate. But they can't replace him with Hammock, they need all those bullpen guys because of starters 3-5. From what I saw on the Gamecast, Brandon's problem was control. I know the Phillies changed Padilla's warm-up routine for the same reasons. The first...

    Is Brenly in trouble?

And Sexson is a free agent after this year. The trade is going to look real bad when several of these guys belong to Milwaukee for the next 6 tears if Sexson doesn't re-sign with the D-Backs.
