2011 Offseason Thread

I was upset with Gentry playing Carter. There was a zero chance of the Suns not exercising the buyout. He had a vew good games, but mostly he was not very good. At this point I think Pietrus IS talented and the Sun played a lot better when he was healthy. None the less, I'm mostly expecting...

    The Emperor wants International Goaltending

I agree. I'm very confused by the way sometimes charges are called that look like undercutting (getting in front of guys who are in the air.) I'm undecided about the goal tending rule. I'm not sure what they think they are doing now, but I agree with Stern that it is wildly inconsistent...

So, how do you build a team?

I'm going to do "what about next season" piece once I'm absolutely sure this season is over. I will start with agreeing that VC has been a big aisappointment IMHO, none of the backups are strong enough offensively to be the guy. I'm hoping free agency will help.

    Bibby, anyone?

With Bibby, winning makes a lot of other considerations go away. IMHO Arroyo is better than Dowdell (not much of a reach). He might not prefer the Suns, but he has a vet minimum contract and is still under waiver rulses. He has talent and can shoot.

Should Vince Carter be left out of the rotation?

Obviously they need to do a buyout. Otherwise they just leave him on the roster and forget him.

    Predictions: Playoffs or Lottery?

I like this team (finally), but I'm not sure I wouldn't prefer a better draft position than a "one and done" playoff series. I hope I'm wrong, but this team needs stuff to be a contender.

    Bibby, anyone?

Since he is going to Heat, the real question is whether anyone likes Carlos Arroyo, who was released to make room for Bibby.

    I have got question

Where do we look this sort of thing up? I remember when Kevin McHale came up and was considered a top "sixth man". Later on the Celtics added Bill Walton who became a top sixth man. When AC Green first joined the Lakers he was used off the bench a lot. I'd guess the stat is driven by the...

Should Vince Carter be left out of the rotation?

I've never been a VC fan and he has not had enough quality games to change my mind. I'd rather cut him and bring in somebody with some future. He's not here past the end of the season, so why not give someone else the experience. BTW, Carlos Arroyo was released and I think he is better than...

    Suns get Aaron Brooks

We will see if Brooks can get Steve some rest. IMHO Steve does a better job on defense than he's given credit for, but not when he is playing 35 plus minutes. As for Morrow, I'm still wondering why the Suns did not go after him during free agency. He signed for $4 million year and shoots 44.1%...

    Suns get Aaron Brooks

I'm not sure how good Brooks CAN be. I'd can see how he can be a good backup if he continues to play like he did last year. Last year he made 5.3 assists per game in 35.6 minutes per game fir a 2.18 assist per turnover ratio. He shot 39.8% for 3 (209 of 525) and 82.2% free throw percentage...

    Suns get Aaron Brooks

I've been convinced of this all season. Goran might be a pretty good player as a combo along side a super quick #2 such as Barbosa. I don't think we realized how much Leandro took the quickest defender last season. BTW, I think the Suns will keep a third PG going forward. Ideally he will be a...

    2011 Draft Thread

I don't get why we are talking about Perry Jones, who Draft Express sees going 4th. If we are just jawing, why not talk about Jared Sullinger of Ohio State. There isn't a chance in the world that the Suns could draft him, but he'd be a great addition.

Should the Suns Tank the Season?

The Suns are currently in 11th place in the West. They'd be in 6th place in the East, but they are only 2 games ahead of GS. The situation is that their are 7 teams worse off than the Suns in the East and 4 in the West; which means if they drafted tomorrow, the Suns would have the 12th pick...

    Suns @ Clippers, 12/26/2010

I have mixed feelings about VC. On one hand, he usually plays well after a trade. On the other hand, he is clearly not here for long and may limit giving the minutes to Dudley and Pietruswhich would prepare for the future. I would not be shocked if VC's contract was bought out if he can't be...

    About Next Season

I'm more hopeful Dragic will get better but I'm skeptical of Warrick becoming more than he is. The problem is that Dragic is a combo guard on a team that needs a pure point guard. He can play defense and certainly score, but doesn't seem to get the offense going. I fear Warrick isn't tough...

    About Next Season

While I expect the Suns will start doing better when they start playing weaker teams, I'm actually more interested in what the team will look like "next season" whenever that is. About all that is certain is that Vince Carter will be gone. Beyond that, the roster will be fiddle'd with but...

Now about the pf position. . .

Before we get carried away, we need to keep certain factors clear: 1. Vice Carter has limited trade value: He can be showcased, but the size of his contract will limit his immediate value to that of an expiring contract. In any case, this is a position that needs to be filled next season. 2...

    One More Move

Huh? J Rich was gone at the end of the season no matter what. Why was losing him such a tragidy? Renting VC should make up for him. Childress has not been healthy all year, but is a quality player. This is not my idea of a blunder. Warrick has been just what we thought he was when signend -...

    Marcin Gortat

Obviously videos make everyone look like an all star, but Gorat looks: Big Strong Athletic Long and quick for big. He looks like he is comfotable with the pick and roll. Considering he played without a PG like Nash (Ok, there is no PG like Nash but some guys are well above average...

My opinion on Amare and Nash

Not that it matters, but minutes for backups are a function of the starter's minutes. A slot has 48 minutes, so if the starter plays 36 minutes, the backup can play no more than 12 unless he plays another position. Four and five minute games are out of the ordinary, but matchups can effect how...

    Good trade

We won't really know if this deal is a good one or not until everybody gets aclimated to Genry's system. But on the surface, I can't see how it won't. Here's how I break it down: Hedo for Petrus - Hedo was totally ill suited to the Sun's system. Petrus was pretty good in the up tempo GS system...

Isn't right now the best time for a trade?

I don't oppose a trade for Thompson, I'm just not conviced he is going to make a huge difference. Some, but not a huge amount. As for the Suns defense, they have proven they can play some defense. Right now their biggest problem is dealing with good three point shooting teams. Running at guys...

    Richardson Wants Extension From Suns

    4. Since we don't know who they wouldn't pay other than KT, it is hard to know. The number of opportunities they passed on make me wonder. 5. The skills preference was certainly a feature of the D'Antoni era, but there are a fair number of examples through the years. The absence of "tough...

    Hakim Warrick

Warrick has been a solid pick up. My only problem is that he does not use his leaping ability to give us Marion type reboudning numbers. What would be huge.
