Ignore Amare, is this team better than last?

It's hard to say if the Suns were really all that lucky. If they had played Dallas earlier, when Bell was healthy, they had a real chance because the Mavs have a problem matching up with the Suns. On the other hand, the Suns have always had problems with the Spurs, so it all depends.

    Thoughts on the Scrimmage

Seriously, Burke was a starter on a couple of the better Euroleague teams like Tau Ceramica and Real Madrid in Spain as well as Panathinkos of Greece. As we've noted during the FIBA World Championships, the FIBA rules are a lot different and it seems to be especially hard for Euro trained...

    Thoughts on the Scrimmage

Burke had a pretty reverse layup. Maybe the last time we'll ever see him, so I thought I'd mention it. ;)

    Thoughts on the Scrimmage

D'Antoni mentioned that they started very fast but faded after getting tired. Obviously they weren't in mid season form, but they certainly pushed. Due to the camera angle, it was hard to tell who was doing what. Still, a couple things seemed notable. I noticed they seemed to be moving...

    Barbosa is still growing

I think Banks will help Leandro a lot on both ends of the court. On defense, Banks will take the tougher matchup on the ball and Leandro will get to use his ball hawking skills to play the passing lanes. Of course if either gets a steal, it is impossible for the opponent to get back in time...

    Staring 5

As Cotton always said, you can never have too many shooters and these guys can shoot.

    Staring 5

Welcome aboard. I think you are right. I've suggested that if Amare does come back full strength, the year off may prove to have a silver lining in that these guys know they can perform without him. They also learned that the D'Antoni system really does work if they do.

    Amare update

Welcome aboard. Anything about Amare is big news. If it wasn't his knees, it would be something else.

    Staring 5

The Suns tendency to blow leads came from: 1. Playing House rather than Nash. House was not a point guard and the Suns offense struggled. Banks should be a huge improvement. 2. Poor half court execution. The Suns were great when running, but tended to brick too many shots when ahead rather...

Ignore Amare, is this team better than last?

To have a similar impact, Boris will have to up his game another level. I wouldn't bet against it, but I'm not convinced it's a sure thing. What Boris needs to do is: 1. Become a vastly better rebounder. His numbers are barely average for an SF, but as a center/PF he should be about 2 rpg...

Amare - What is going on?

D'Antoni has effectively said the same thing. He said this team without Amare should win 55 to 60 games during the regular season. It is during the playoffs Amare has to be ready. It is very very hard to win without a low post threat.

Amare - What is going on?

Actually, it sounds like it comes and goes. One day he says he'll be 100% by Oct 31 and the next day he misses practice.

Amare - What is going on?

Unless there is information we don't know about, the issue is that Amare feels pain in his knee. The x-rays and MRI say it is all soft tissue. But you can understand why Amare takes pain in his knee seriously. My guess is that it will take competition for him to stop thinking about his knees...

Ignore Amare, is this team better than last?

"On paper" (or perhaps on screen...) this is clearly a better team than last year prior to losing KT due to depth and several guys with more familiarity with the D'Antoni system. However, for this team to fullfill their promise, they need to step up their defense, rebounding, and moving...

    Staring 5

I went for Amare and KT for the same reasons I've given all along. KT is the team's best interior defender and interior rebounder. Having him in at the start can help keep either Amare or Boris (if Amare is slow healing) from getting into foul trouble right at the start of the game. Also, it is...

Amare missed practice because of knee.

I am always pleased when a collection of physicians come on the board and give use their expert opinion on what is happening and why. :thud:

Grizzlies to be sold to Laettner, Davis

Worked for Jordan. :p Laettner got a terrible reputation as being locker room poison. Obviously playing on bad teams is a way to get that rep, but it was certainly an issue.

http://www.azcentral.com/blogs/index.php?blog=193&blogtype=Sports It would be nice if Marks could actually contribute. He's got some size and spent two years learning defense from Pop. Who knows?

    In-depth Hollinger article on Suns

"The most likely scenario is something in between -- a bumpy return for Stoudemire that goes in fits and starts, but sees him in reasonably good shape by April. If so, I doubt the Suns will have the West's best record, but they could be a terror come playoff time." IMHO, the Suns have a...
