    Pick and roll.....

I would add to Eric's post that I don't think Marion's hands are all that great. Amare can scoop things up down low in traffic (esp. bounce passes) in a way that Marion just can't....

    Eddie Johnson article

They're both really interesting and insightful hoopheads. I just fear we'll eventually lose EJ to the national basketball pundit limelight.

Congress On NBA drug Testing Policy

Heh, you'd think they'd have more important problems to pay attention to--you know, like war, health insurance, jobs. Jackasses.

Meeting between owners and players fails to materialize

It is also possible, indeed well rumored, that Colangelo doesn't want this team to turn a profit, because it triggers all sorts of debt repayment with the city. I could be wrong, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me. At that level of corporate finance, the bottom line becomes a fuzzy and...

Meeting between owners and players fails to materialize

Oy. Look, there are about 300 people in the world qualified to make an NBA roster. Their skills are singular and elite--a lesson we are learning the hard way with JJ being hurt. If you jibikao are convinced that you can persuade a GM to let you make 5 mil sitting on the end of the bench...

Meeting between owners and players fails to materialize

I won't argue that most players don't make eye-popping amounts of money, especially compared to middle class folks like us. Whether they "deserve" those salaries is another question altogether--one which I think is interesting. But it is wrong, in my opinion, to single the players out for greed...

Meeting between owners and players fails to materialize

You know the one about Bill Gates walking into a bar: the average net worth of the patrons soars about a billion??? The principle seems applicable here.

Meeting between owners and players fails to materialize

Overall, I agree with you, Joe; you are one of the most astute and respected authorities on this board and a must read for me. But keep in mind that the vast majority of the players in the NBA are not pulling in break the bank type contracts--for every KG there are probably three or four Paul...

Meeting between owners and players fails to materialize

That's a somewhat loaded way to put it; Russ Granik would like them to "keep their promises." My question asked for the same cynicism regarding the owners as jibikao displayed toward the players. What do you think the owners (poor put upon victims that they are) really want?

Meeting between owners and players fails to materialize

Waaahhhaaaha. That's freaking funny! Er, yeah. Ask the owners what they want.

Meeting between owners and players fails to materialize

It seems extremely irrational for either side to make smoking pot a deal-breaker. If the season is cancelled, the reasons will go much deeper.

    Amaré's best yet to come

My complaint about the Repulsive's coverage is only that Paul Coro is one of the worst writers I've ever seen in print. His sentences are often incomprehensible, with weird uncontrolled mixtures of tenses and metaphors. Sorry no examples at the moment--but they're there, every damned day, in...

Western Conference Semifinals Game 3- Suns @ Mavericks Game Thread

This team is approaching mythic heroism to me. I've never been so proud to be a fan. Great win. :notworthy

I agree. What a cool guy. I'm proud of this team, regardless of how far they go.

Joe Johnson out for remainder of playoffs

Better to know this now, than to anxiously hope for JJ's quick return. Now they know the deal, and can start planning for how to react. No rescue's from JJ. It's on the rest of the guys. And D'Antoni can really measure his worth as COY.

Not sure about it this year...

I agree with the above comments on Barbosa and Q, as I said in another thread. Barbosa needs to dig deep for a killer mindset and Q needs to take more shots.

A cakewalk to the title falls flat in 1 tumble

From the teevee angle it looked like it might drop through, but on replay it proved to be off to the right. Yet I went to sleep last night, unable to get the idea that that shot really should have dropped out of my mind's eye. It seemed so close. Ah well. It's going to be uphill from...

    Sarver's interaction upstairs thrills fans

I agree with that and I'm not sure it's such a bad thing. If Marion feels he has something to prove, so much the better. I doubt his annoyance will become poisonous, given the way this team doesn't seem to harbor jealousies. Perhaps the national media is the real target of his edgy remarks.

Michael Wilbon on Nash being MVP

I'd like to see Amare develop a turnaround jumper he could use reliably. Other than that, you may be right--Amare may be the most dangerous power forward offensively right now.

Michael Wilbon on Nash being MVP

And he's dead wrong about Amare. My sense is he hasn't really watched the Suns play much this year. At this point, Amare's offensive game is more versatile than Shaq's, never mind every other power forward this side of Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett.

MVP race down to the wire

And then we could get Focus on the Family to declare Shaq the anti-Christ and a threat to little children everywhere, and then Pat Robertson could tell us that Shaq is worse than al-Qaeda, and then and then.....
