    Rob Neyer's All-Time Diamondback Team

I've been in process of listing hypothetical "all time teams" With its short history, the D'backs starting team doesn't differ to much, other than Jr. at second and I actually HAD put down a category for utility player because I felt CC needed to go on the list somewhere...

    Jose

2 games at the Major League level.... but Jose has pitched as a closer MANY more times at AAA. Would expect D'backs to showcase Mantei once he gets off the DL, and depending on circumstances... may well decide to deal him since closers for some contenders will be very much in demand.

    Cintron

Spivey is an excellent athlete, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him worked into the OF.... Having versatile players to play variety of positions is a huge plus--Robbie Hammock fits into the mix too... Those possibilities would send BB into ecstasy, given his penchant for varying the lineup...

    Cintron

Gotta like the young talent there... Overbay will need to step it up to keep his present/future job.... Hillebrand is a natural first baseman, and Tracy is looming down the I-10 freeway!

    Suspensions

... and a bench player has to fill in for the starting everyday player for the amount of games he is suspended, leaving the team short as well. Suspensions are meant as penalties for players and teams.

    Dbacks vs Indians

Too late... Now need to win the series.... but playing the way they are.... very unlikely!

    For Gambo and the pessimists

heh If you can't even trust the NY Times, what is there to shoot for in that field now?

    For Gambo and the pessimists

If you would GUARANTEE that the D'backs would win 2 out of 3 games the rest of the season, I'd take my chances. That translates into 95 wins for 2003, and excellent odds of making the playoffs!!! Do the math :D

    For Gambo and the pessimists

Re: Re: For Gambo and the pessimists That is key... Before anyone gets pipe dreams about making the playoffs, we really need to see the D'backs consistently play much better ball. There have been some positive signs along that way of late--the quality of play has improved recently (but we've...

    Gambo Pissed Me Off!

Isn't pissing people off part of Gambo's job description?

    Shea...

Adjusting to trade isn't hard when Shea is playing as he has the past few days, and if Curt's statements are true, then it appears the trade is working for both sides... Comparing our current third sacker to what we've been accustomed to.... I'll take line drives ANY day over pop ups!

    Kim

Followed his last three innings on Game Channel... glad he did well and got some well deserved run support this time! Will continue to follow his outings...

    Do you believe Sammy Sosa?

Players that have deliberately attempted to cheat with a bat, are more than anxious to retrieve the pieces after the bat breaks... Sammy was oblivious to the situation, showing no signs of panic.

Patterson needs to step it up tonight

Football players need nearly the whole week off after such a hit to be able to function properly, and baseball is much finer in terms in timing.... so Dellucci shouldn't be in the lineup for an extended period. Not sure why the delay on putting him on the DL ... Robbie is a proven guy that...

Patterson needs to step it up tonight

It's hard to fathom the recent trend of bringing up a new AAA guy for spot starting before sending him back down.

    Matt Williams is gone

Sitting here in San Diego before heading towards the Q, first heard the word via ESPN and very glad to see the team make the hard choice to do the right thing. Saw Bickley's column Friday, and then seeing Cintron playing 3rd began to think perhaps this could come true... It explains the...

    Why does everyone hate Kim?

Whitey was about as objective a judge of talent as I've witnessed, and he cut loose favorite players relentlessly while he performed the GM duties... Very much in tune with the numbers, he often parted with personal favorites, like John Tudor and Joaquin Andujar, when he felt they were entering...

    AZ/Bosox Trade - Done Deal!

From reactions from both boards, the early results of the poll only indicate that Boston fans have visited and voted more frequently

    Well...

Should D'backs be "out of it" before the trading deadline (end of July, I think), expect more regulars to be moved for monetary reasons, as the contenders jockey to fill in a missing puzzle piece. Finley will be a likely target... and Schilling's name is certain to come up... if not then...

ESPN reports Kim for Hillenbrand trade

Knee jerk reactions to the immediate non-production of the "offense" is NOT the necessary solution for this team... The problems are much deeper and long range planning is necessary. This would be more like a marketing ploy, to attempt to get more butts in the seats... by portraying it as the...

ESPN reports Kim for Hillenbrand trade

    Why does everyone hate Kim?

Bad mouthing players publicly may save on negative fan reaction (not sure it has that much effect on marketing/promotions), but it certainly can't help trade value... One opposite angle I'm aware of from the 80's... was when the Cardinals suddenly traded away fan favorite Keith Hernandez, who...

    Why does everyone hate Kim?

Very sensible! Wish they'd work out an exchange deal for season ticket holders.... trade in some of this year's games for some Fall League fare where there are players with some energy and hope for the future :-) All the talk I've seen about trading one of our pitching prospects for one...

    Gnat-swattin' time

We got about half that... Were 0-3 with runners in scoring position. The Gnats had 12 runners in scoring position, so coming through twice was enough for them. [B] Whomping on inferior pitching doesn't do a lot when facing real big league pitching. Schmidt is an excellent pitcher, but...
