Brosnan Favors Colin Farrell as 007
Source: Associated Press
November 1, 2004

In a previous article talking about how Pierce Brosnan confirmed his 007 days are over, we mentioned that the actor did have someone in mind who would be a perfect replacement. He wouldn't reveal who that was, but he saw him in a recent movie and was impressed. "He had a presence: Face, body, voice, the eyes. He would make a good one," said Brosnan.

Now, according to the Associated Press, it's become clear that Brosnan was referring to fellow Irishman Colin Farrell. He said several actors could ably fill his shoes as Bond.

"But I'll give it to Colin Farrell. He'll eat the head off them all," Brosnan said following an entertainment awards ceremony Saturday in Dublin. Brosnan didn't specify any other actors that he thought would make a good 007.

He also said he was discussing a possible collaboration with director Quentin Tarantino, who is considering making a film of the Bond novel Casino Royale.

Julian McMahon Passes on 007

Julian McMahon Passes on 007

November 7, 2004

Nip/Tuck star Julian McMahon has had to pass on playing 007 in the next James Bond movie due to his schedule on the popular TV series, says the Sunday Herald Sun.

McMahon, who certainly looks the part, was apparently offered the role. His mother, Lady Sonia McMahon, spoke openly to guests about the casting at the Melbourne Cup's Moet & Chandon marquee this week.

She revealed her son had indeed "been sounded out about taking on the role. Unfortunately, he had to decline the offer, having recently signed a long-term deal with his hit TV drama series Nip/Tuck."

McMahon, formerly on Charmed, also plays Dr. Doom in the upcoming Fantastic Four adaptation.

Ioan Gruffudd a Frontrunner for 007?
Source: Moviehole
November 18, 2004

Moviehole reports that Ioan Gruffudd, Mr. Fantastic in the upcoming Fantastic Four, is being eyed by EON Productions to replace Pierce Brosnan as 007 in the 21st installment of the "James Bond" franchise.

According to the site's "top industry source," the star of such movies as King Arthur, Black Hawk Down, and the "Hornblower" TV films, is deep in talks for the role of the secret agent.

Interestingly, it was revealed earlier this month that his Fantastic Four co-star Julian McMahon (Dr. Doom) had to pass on the role because of his Nip/Tuck shooting schedule.

McGregor would be interesting. If I were an exec I think I'd like to see him in one before I handed the franchise over to him, though.

i would like them to get a lesser known actor who will commit to at least 3 or 4 bond movies. i still think that Clive Owen would make a perfect bond.

Julian McMahon a Frontrunner for 007?
Source: The Mirror
February 25, 2005

While he previously was believed to have passed on the role due to his Nip/Tuck schedule, UK's The Mirror now says Julian McMahon is one of two frontrunners for James Bond in the upcoming Casino Royale.

The 36-year-old Australian reportedly said: "I'm a big James Bond fan. I met the producers for a final audition. They told me to expect a decision in a couple of months and they said it was between me and one other person. It's going to be a very nervous wait."

The other person in the frame is believed to be British actor Clive Owen.

McMahon will next be seen on the big screen as Dr. Doom in 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Four.

Colin Farrell probably killed his chance at 007 with the abysmal Alexander.

Jude Law? Personally, I can't imagine Law as a secret agent out there beating up bad guys. He looks about as threatening as Clay Aiken.

The New Bond; James Bond: Daniel Craig

British actor Daniel Craig picked as new James Bond

Wed Apr 6, 7:49 AM ET

LONDON (AFP) - The producers of the hugely successful James Bond film franchise have chosen British actor Daniel Craig to take over the role of the suave super-spy, a report said.

The 37-year-old has been offered a three-film deal by Bond producer Barbara Broccoli and is expected to sign up formally in the next few weeks, The Sun newspaper reported Wednesday.

Craig, a tough-looking character actor who has mixed up appearances in many art-house titles with roles in blockbusters such as "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider", just beat fellow Briton Clive Owen for the role, the report said.

Craig would be the sixth Bond in the official series of films based on the novels by Ian Fleming, following Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and most recent incumbent Pierce Brosnan.

According to The Sun, Owen -- nominated for an Oscar this year for film "Closer" -- had told casting agents he did not want the job, although Broccoli was already favouring Craig.

While Craig remains relatively unknown outside Britain, he is well respected as an actor and also has the necessary reputation for being something of a Bond-esque ladies man, having recently dated supermodel Kate Moss.

Citing an unnamed "movie source", The Sun said that staff working at Eon Productions, which makes the Bond movies, had been told Craig would star in the next films.

"Daniel is the new 007. He is going through the deal with his lawyers. It's a big commitment for a minimum of 10 years, but he has indicated he will take the job," the source said.

Brosnan's last film as Bond was "Die Another Day" in 2002. Since then a string of possible replacements have been mooted, including Britons Jude Law and Ewan McGregor and Australian actors Hugh Jackman and Eric Bana.

Fleming's novels chronicling the adventures of the British spy codenamed 007 were first turned into a film in 1962, with "Dr No".

The name's not Bond
By Zenobia Tiley, This is London
6 April 2005

Actor Daniel Craig says he's not going to be the next James Bond, following a flurry of stories today claiming he had won the part. A spokeswoman for the star of hit gangster movie Layer Cake denied the reports but wouldn't comment further.

Eon Productions, which makes the Bond movies, also refused to comment.

This means that fellow British actor Clive Owen may still be in the running to take over from Pierce Brosnan.

Other names mentioned to play the 007 role have included Eric Bana, Jude Law, Heath Ledger, Ewan McGregor, Dougray Scott and Australian Hugh Jackman.

The next James Bond movie, Casino Royale, is being directed by Martin Campbell, who first took the helm on Goldeneye in 1995. The Sun said today that Craig had been offered a three-film deal by producer Barbara Broccoli.

Daniel Craig played Paul Newman's son in Road to Perdition (the one who killed Tom Hanks' family). I just don't see him as Bond. I'm still crossing my fingers for Clive Owen.

I'd rather see Owen in more gritty parts over the next few years than stuck in the James Bond mode. I'd like to see them hire an unknown for the role, ala Craig (although not like craig, capise?)

Brosnan may be back as Bond

From correspondents in Los Angeles
April 08, 2005
From: Agence France-Presse

The identity of the next British superspy James Bond may not have been decided after all.

A day after a British newspaper reported that British actor Daniel Craig had been chosen to take on 007's mantel from Pierce Brosnan, Hollywood media suggested that Brosnan may not be turning in his Walther PPK pistol after all.

Industry bible Daily Variety quoted US sources as saying the 37-year-old Craig was "no more of a certainty than other candidates", who reportedly include British actors Clive Owen and Dominic West.

The daily instead cited rumours that Bond producers had "patched things up with former 007 Pierce Brosnan and were negotiating a two-picture $US40 million ($52m) deal for him to reprise his role as the dapper spy".

But it also cited further speculation that Brosnan had only signed on to make one more Bond film to give producers a chance to find a new star.

Producers and distributors of the hugely-successful Bond franchise however declined to comment.

"Nothing official has been announced yet," said Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) studios spokesman Peter Peterson.

Brosnan's publicist Jennifer Allen also declined to confirm any of the conflicting stories surrounding her client.

No announcement of the next Bond was likely to be made until Sony Pictures completed its take-over of MGM later this month, industry sources said.

The 52-year-old Irish actor Brosnan announced last July that he would abandon his starring role as Bond after four smash hits as the suave spy.

Bond producers, Eon Productions, and distributors MGM launched a worldwide search for the next Bond.

The names of Oscar-nominated British actor Owen, Britons Jude Law and Ewan McGregor and Australians Hugh Jackman and Eric Bana soon hit the headlines, but no star was announced.

Variety suggested Brosnan might have been dissatisfied with his last Bond pay cheque for Die Another Day, which raked in $US350 million ($455m) at the box office.

While Brosnan received a total of about $US20 million ($26m), the figure was dwarfed by that received by Matrix star Keanu Reeves and Mission Impossible's Tom Cruise, who also got a share of box office profits for their films, it said.

Britain's Sun newspaper this week cited an unnamed "movie source" as saying that Eon Productions had been told Craig would star in the next films.

But website Darkhorizons.com said Craig had denied being asked and that Brosnan was very likely to return as Bond. It said all the talk of him quitting was a negotiating ploy.

Recently, Daniel Craig has been saying he will NOT be Bond.

Judi Dench feels Brosnan will be back...

Judi Dench Says Brosnan is Still 007
Source: New York Post
April 26, 2005

New York Post gossip columnist Cindy Adams talked to Dame Judi Dench, who has played M in the four Pierce Brosnan James Bond movies, and will do so again in Casino Royale.

Although Brosnan believed he wouldn't be back, Dench says the actor will return a fifth time. "Despite the fact that everyone on the face of the Earth has been tested as his possible replacement, he'll be doing it again, and it'll be announced come summer," said Dench.

Martin Campbell, who directed Brosnan and Dench in their first 007 movie together, Goldeneye, is returning for the latest installment. The 21st Bond film hits theaters November 17, 2006.

Visnjic confirms 007 rumors
Jun 24th, 2005

A few weeks back it was rumoured that "E.R" doc Goran Visnjic was being eyeballed for the role of the ever-transforming James Bond.

According to MI6, the actor has confirmed that he is indeed in the running to be Pierce Brosnan's proxy, with another screen test booked for next Wednesday for "Casino Royale". Sounds like the Franchise fathers like him.

Meantime, and surprisingly enough, John Cleese and Judi Dench might be returning to the franchise they assumed they had also - like Brosnan - been booted from. Not so, says Yahoo! with Cleese and Dench signed to appear in "Casino Royale". Happy to hear they're at least keeping some successful elements.

Who Will Be the Next James Bond?
Source: ET.com
June 27, 2005

The search is on for the sixth man to portray James Bond, Britain's most famous secret agent, following in the footsteps of Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Dalton, Roger Moore, George Lazenby and the man who originated the character in 1962, Sean Connery. But is Pierce completely out of the picture?

With such titles as 'Goldeneye,' 'Tomorrow Never Dies' and 'Die Another Day' with Halle Berry, Pierce reinvigorated the 007 franchise with some of the best box office business ever. But contract negotiations reportedly went south between the actor and Bond producers for his fifth outing, and the filmmakers formally announced that "no decision has been made regarding the casting of the role of James Bond" for the 21st Bond movie, 'Casino Royale.'

At a premiere in April, Dame Judi Dench, who plays Bond's boss, M, in the series, proclaimed that Pierce would absolutely be returning to Her Majesty's Secret Service. But then in a later interview she changed her tune, reportedly telling a Seattle paper, "All I know is that I'm going to be in it. I don't know if it's Pierce, or someone else. Every young actor around has been mentioned."

Some of those actors whose names have been bandied about to don the 007 tux include Jude Law, Ewan McGregor, Colin Farrell, Eric Bana ('Troy'), Ioan Gruffudd ('Fantastic Four'), Dougray Scott ('Mission: Impossible 2'), Hugh Jackman and most recently "ER" doc Goran Visnjic, who was rumored to have screen-tested for the part. There's even been talk of doing a "young Bond" movie series to coincide with the recent release of Silverfin, which chronicles the character's formative teen years, with Orlando Bloom a prime casting candidate.

At age 52, Pierce himself said in an interview recently that he believes himself to be too old for the role, and even endorsed 'Sin City' star Clive Owen in a Time magazine Q&A. But Clive, who has been in the running ever since he put on a tux in 1998's 'Croupier,' has kept his cards close to his vest.

"That's all it is -- talk, talk, talk," Clive tells ET. "It circulates in the tabloids; there's no foundation for it. I've never been approached. I've never even talked to anybody about it. All I know is that I'm pretty booked up for the next year or so. I've got no problem being associated with it, but it is just rumor."

The same goes for 'Layer Cake' star Daniel Craig, who recently became a frontrunner in the tabloid speculation race. "I just got very strange messages on my phone -- it's the first I've heard about it," he tells ET, "so it's a nice position to be in, to be considered, but that's it, as far as I know, for the moment."

"It's a very enticing prospect, Bond," adds Gerard Butler ('Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera'), whose name has been thrown in the ring. "I grew up with Bond. He's the guy, he's the dude, the movies are great, and I'd be a great Bond -- but other than that, it's just rumors."

All anyone knows for sure at this point is that Kiwi director Martin Campbell, the man who ushered in the Brosnan era with 'Goldeneye' in 1995, will helm 'Casino Royale.' Based on 007 creator Ian Fleming's first-ever Bond novel, which was published in 1953 (and originally made as a Bond spoof in 1967 with Peter Sellers, David Niven and Woody Allen), the film is scheduled to begin production in January and slated for release that fall 2006.

Goran is Jersey Girl's babe. Now, if David Duchovney was up for the role... :D
