Matt Spiller has been recalled from AHL San Antonio to take his place. Thus, the Coyotes will essentially be playing 4 rookie defensemen (although I believe Spiller has played a few more NHL games than the max to be considered a true rookie).
The Coyotes are fading fast, and there are only 16 games before the Olympic Break. If they do not turn it around by then, they should become sellers at the trading deadline. Moving guys like Joseph, Nedved, Sanderson, LeClerc, and Ricci could bring the Coyotes some decent young talent in return. Most of these guys will not be returning next season anyways (all of those players will be free agents at the end of the season, with the exception of Nedved), so shedding their salaries before the deadline will also help the Coyotes to improve the team in the next offseason, which will contain one of the deepest free agent markets to date.

I would rather not take on a large contract that does not end at the conclusion of this season because it would hinder our spending ability in the next free agent marketplace, which is going to be the deepest and strongest in memory. I do not envision that Nedved's trade value is very high at the moment, I am guessing that any large contract player coming in return will be extremely overpaid and underproducing (one of those "Ill trade your overpaid headache for your overpaid headache and hope the change of scenery helps" kind of deals). I am hoping we can instead create more salary flexibility by wiping away Nedved's contract by moving him in exchange for either a 5th/6th Defenseman or a low pick/prospect, which is realistic.ASUCHRIS said:How would taking back salary shoot us in the foot? We are one of the cheaper teams already, we definitely need more talent and scoring, if paying a player a little more is a byproduct of this, so be it.
