phil jackson happened. no one wants to admit it, but phil loves his thugs. he takes mild mannered players and turns them into thugs. remember rick fox? never considered dirty in boston, then at the tail end of his career - WHAM! - thug. horry? same school. hell, remember phil was sanctuary for rodman back in the day. not at all surprised to see one of the current lakers go thug.
Good point, I think you're on to something there.

It wasn't even NEAR the throat. Haven't you seen the multitude of replays and the reverse angle? And isn't it amazing how Battier catches a bow and gets four stitches, but the phantom throat elbow doesn't cause Ron to even catch his breath, and instead it makes his throat start yapping at the ref and at Kobe? Dude lied about the throat, video backs it up.

If Kobe had popped him in the neck, he'd be suspended...the league is pretty clear on that. He put the bow right into the R in rockets, and Bad Ron came rushing out. I actually love Ron Artest, but he is always inches away from blowing a game for his team. I'd take him in a heartbeat on the Lakers though.
Kobe missed;)...but it was close. Looked like the upper sternum to me. Regardless, that elbow was an intentional one, not found in the fundamental Book of How to Boxout your opponent. Kobe was getting pushed underneath(legally by todays NBA playoff standards) by a stronger, bigger guy and he threw a vicious elbow in order to get Artest off the ball.....it worked...but it's dirty and illegal. I don't believe it warranted a suspension....but it did warrant a retaliation.
BTW, yeah, I'd love to have Artest wearing my teams colors too...but it's against the SUNS culture to bring in a guy like Artest:bang:

Kobe has immense talent.

Unfortunately;

He's a punk!

Always has been, always will be.

its funny how no one (media) is saying that artest shouldnt have been ejected.
but everyone is vouching for kobe and lakers showing their toughness.

i think rondo should have been given 1game for the hinrich tangle.
he showed that he can be dirty by smacking miller, not even a close play on the ball.

fisher and howard, yeah thats obvious they deserved atleast 1game.

kobe, its a calculated elbow. but i dont think it warrants a suspension. he's dirty at times as well.

Whether Kobe's elbow deserves a suspension is a judgment call. I have no problem with no suspension but just a flagrant 1. Fisher's is worse than Horry's on Nash or Rondo's on Miller, since the latter at least could have the excuse of preventing a scoring move. Fisher's was WWF pure, attacking somebody away from the ball with such a force that he even hurt himself.:D

There's a replay a few pages back. A photo taken at ground level is worthless evidence of anything(no offense to the poster who a:thumbup:dded it)

No offense taken. I agree, a photo can be misleading, but the video posted is from behind the play. The photo shows at the very least one point where Kobe made contact. His arm may have slide up, down, or that's where he hit him. But for these Laker homers to make these pathetic claims of lies and he only hit him in the chest is obviously proven wrong just from one frame of the video.

Good to see a fun, tough fought first half.

Rox giving it all they got.

Odom is the key...gotta stay out of trouble. Pau needs to start hitting shots, and at least one guard not named Kobe needs to step up as well.

Farmar has done good on D, but his shot is cooooold. Shannon is shooting much better.

Avery Johnson's voice makes my ears bleed. I can't imagine being coached by that Smurf.

I didn't before. Maybe Chris Rock's kid?

Brooks is a flat out stud...athletic as all hell. I forgot until abomb reminded me that the guy was also QB at Oregon. Nice little side game with him and Ear Jordan having some experience against each other from the Pac 10.

I hadn't watched the Rockets until the playoffs but the kid is impressive.

The ejection of Artest was just wrong.

So was such a hard foul when the game was already out of reach. Just go up with the guy and try to block it, especially a "soft" player like Gasol. Going for the upper body with a lot of force when a guy is in the air and your name is Ron Artest is just asking for trouble.

Adleman is an IDIOT for leaving Yao out there so long in a game he knew they weren't winning.

Yao is a freaking MAN...but come on...he was hurting bad and you are losing the game barring miracle...get your stud on the bench and healing up for game 4.

Just a bizarre, idiotic coaching move.

Great game by Ear Jordan tonight...very happy with that play.

Artest continues to hit the most RIDICULOUS shots man...unreal.

That was a dumb call on Flagrant 2 initially; I agree with JVG...this league is getting freaking SOFT as freaking hell, a bunch of bull. Making this the WNBA very quickly. That was a nice, hard foul. Ron didn't go Bad Ron though, so he'll be fine. That should be dropped to NO flagrant at all. At most Flagrant 1.

Someone today on ESPN wrote that if even the 90s were called like today's game, we'd never get past a game 3 in a Heat/Knicks series.

shouldv'e been an offensive foul on Wafer

The ejection of Artest was just wrong.

Agreed on both counts.

I really, really disagree with the Artest call. I understand his ejection in game 2, but that was simply targeting him because he's Ron Artest.

WNBA? 80s bball? I prefer old school style. All the "is Kobe dirty" crap out there? Yeah, he grabs and pulls and pushes, and dudes do it to him. But so did Bird, and Jordan, and all the dudes out there. Hell, just saw him say he's an 80s baby, so that Ron foul was just a good hard foul...while ESPN blabbers about hard fouls and dirty play and such, the old guard is laughing their asses off while the old old guard like Jerry Sloan wish the vagina 80s players weren't so soft.
