Ladies and Gentlemen,
What faces us, is the longest part of the offseason. With MAYBE an extension to look forward to, and the signing of our rookies, we got 44 days of nothing. I got 13 topics that I will hit on (about 2 a week).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
2009 Cardinals Quarterbacks:

Let's face it, Kurt Warner is our guy for 2009 and there are no two ways about it. Hopefully he continues being healthy, and continues to produce like he has done in the past. They say you need about 3 years in an offense to really start clicking. Well, Warner, Fitz, and Anquan have all been together for a while, and they are entering the third year in Whiz's system.

It may sound crazy, but I expect our passing game to be even more potent than last year. I would not be surprised to see the actual numbers in yards to go down as the amount of wins the Cardinals goes up, but win are what matters.

As for Leinart ? Well, he has to earn his backup spot this year, which is a good thing in my mind. Let Brian St. Pierre push him a little in camp, and through that battle we all will get a progress report on Leinart this year. I would be shocked if BSP beats our Leinart for the backup spot. That would not be a good thing for the Cardinals, IMO. It would cause concerned for the entire organization that we do not have a QOF.

But I think that Leinart will in fact be our backup, and will hopefully see some garbage time this year in a few games. The Cardinals have the kind of offense to put a team away early, and by a large margin. It would benefit this team to get some younger guys experience and groom them for when they take over.

All in all the Cardinals are in a position at QB to deal with the season and what ever it brings.

Rugby, I agree with EVERYTHING you've said. And thanks for your idea for filling the down time. I'm really looking forward to the preseason, where we'll get a look at the backups. I'm expecting ML to look VG in the PS.

Right on Rugby. The "extension" would be Dansby right? (I was afraid at first you were indicating there could be an "extension" to our downtime) The rookie signings will be interesting because each one causes another player to be cut. I am in the camp that believes the pre-training camp cuts will not be players previously on our 53 man roster. If Dansby re-signs, and that's a big if, it might open the door for a Q extension. That is a lot of speculation which I am not holding my breath for. The potential for an uncapped year followed by a lockout has created a difficult situation to negotiate long-term contracts in.
Keep your topics coming. The Big Red Army is getting ready for the campaign.

I agree. If BSP beats out Matt, it's not looking good.

To throw another iron in the fire:

Tell me what you think will happen if Warner gets injured ?

Leinart (in a way) lost his starting job to injury.....what if Warner goes down and Leinart takes off.

Keep in mind Leinart is better suited for the offense Whiz likes to run, which is more based on the play action pass.

And as I said. I expect the passing numbers to drop as the wins increase.

If Warner gets *******, (I don't use that word when dealing with hypotheticals) Matt comes in and does what he is expected to do. Our offense would be less explosive, the key is for our defense to be less implosive. We do not have to score more points than last year, we do have to give up fewer. I do not give the "competition" for 2nd string QB much thought. Matt has started in this league, BSP has not. I do believe we are in much better shape than in 2007 when we did not have BSP to backup Kurt and Matt.

I would hope that the Cardinals put away teams like MINNESOTA (hint, hint) ;) away early at home this year and do like you say, rest starters and give b/u's some play time.

Leinart should get plenty of snaps during the pre-season to indicate how he is progressing. I'm reserving my judgement until then, I do however, want him to have a long and successful career with the Cards, so fingers crossed.

Big BQ!
I also wish the best for ML.. Hopefully in 2 years he will take over for a retired KW and seamlessly take this offense over..

Dont underestimate the loss of coordinator Todd Haley, I think its both good and bad. Haley liked to chunk the rock all over the field in AZ and in Dallas and the strength of this team is still its passing game with Kurt and those WR's. I think our passing game will be less effective with his loss, but if Beanie and the Oline step up we could be very good once again, but that remains to be seen. I really believe Wiz wants a more balanced offense which is why I find it hard to pay Fitz and Q big $$$. As far as Leinart, I have always had a man crush on him and still believe he will be a star.
