I was at the Cowboys game that year in Texas Stadium. Member of the Cowboys Band (as I've mentioned numerous times before!).

One other somewhat ironic personal thing about that season - I had to go on a business trip to Phoenix in 1988...as it so happened, the Monday after the first regular season game for the Cardinals there. Knew as soon as I stepped off of the plane that I was going to live there someday, and here I am 31 years later still trying to get there.

(Making our annual trip to scout out locations where to live again in April.)

The sad thing is, Bidwill left STL because they wouldn't give him a football only stadium. So he bolts for Phoenix and the promise of a new stadium. The Rams move to STL and a year later they have a brand new dome. Meanwhile it will take the Cards almost 20 years to get their promised stadium. What that tells me is that STL just wanted to get rid of the Bidwills. In fact, even the baseball Cardinals got a new park before the Football Cardinals did.
The way I understand it is Bidwill wanted a domed stadium & they couldn't sell beer. Busch stadium is where they played & all the anheiser Busch products are made in St.Louis but no beer lol? I was told this by several people there, don't know how true it is? The city of St.Louis offered a 70,000 seat open air stadium & Billy bow tie said "hell no", the rest is history.
