I THINK it was 2002....sorry if I'm a year off.

But we were 4-2 and our defense was stiffling......everyone loved our coach.......and our passing game and run game were good.

we went 5-11

DON'T get ahead of yourself. I am excited too.....but keep things in perspective. These next three games are very important in my opinion. If 2 of the next three can be won.....then we have a shot and being right in the thick of this conference.

2002 was a completely different year.

Let us revisit:

Week 1: They play the Redskins with new head coach Steve Spurrier. Among early opponents for the Redskins, the Cardinals are the bright spot. Redskins win 31-23. Record is 0-1.

Week 2: The Cardinals visit the Seahawks and surprise them in their new stadium. The NFL is shocked and does not know what to make of this Arizona team. Arizona wins 24-13. Record is 1-1.

Week 3: The Cardinals proceed to lose their home opener to San Diego 23-15. The winning streak is about to begin. Record is 1-2.

Week 4: The Cards score another upset beating the Giants at home 21-7. The defense saves the day with two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) and a fumble. People begin to believe. Record is 2-2.

Week 5: The scheduling is kind as the Cardinals get to take on a relatively weak Carolina Panthers team to win 16-13. Record is 3-2.

Week 6: Facing Dallas at home (sort of), the Cardinals take advantage of the Cowboys during a season the Dallas team will finish 5-11. Still, the homefield advantage for the Cards allows them to win in overtime 9-6. Record is 4-2.

The problem with those first six weeks is that only one of their opponents during this period will end the season with a winning record. For the remaining ten games the Cardinals face only four opponents who will finish the season with losing records (Seattle, St. Louis twice and Detroit...they manage to beat Detroit in overtime).

The schedule that year had favored a strong start and a weak finish which is exactly what happened. This year's schedule was front loaded with the strength.

I like our chances.

That 9-6 Cowgirls game was the most excruciating football game I've ever attended.
It was so bad that Dallas missed an extra point.

Anything can happen.

But don't confuse yourself. Ken Whisenhunt and Dave McGinnis are worlds apart!

We started 4-2, and met the 49ers the next week, who I believe were also 4-2. The game was hugely hyped up, and the winner was going to be the new leader in the division.

We got our butts whooped on that game iirc.

The Cards "one heartbeat" was barely audible for the rest of the year. Injuries played a huge part, as almost all our WR's were out by midseason. This was the year of Kaspar, Gilmore, etc I think. We had retreads and waiver wire pickups starting at a lot of key positions.

Was that the game where we gave up like 200 yards receiving to their TE?
