I keep hearing this, but only on this board. Does anyone anywhere have anything that suggests that Gerald Hayes can play NFL MLB, or would be more effective there than he can be at OLB?

I'm not saying it's not possible, but to think that it's likely seems to be surrenduring to the echo chamber that is ASFN.

Just on pure measurables:

.

About the only guy that doesn't agree with you is Zach Thomas and he has played most of his career behind huge DT's that keep people off him.

That said, I am one of those who think Hayes will end up at MLB.

Wright is a Jr, not sure why all the major college football sites have him listed as a Sr (have seen at least 3). With the hiring of Tomey by Texas, I expect him to have a huge year, but not sure if he'll come out or not. I also expect Benson to have a big year this year, with most of the OL back, and them losing those 3 wide recievers, I expect Texas to run the ball ALOT!! Don't really think he is a Green type back, but he should have a huge year. I do think that Green will take a look at Sproles though, very fast, and good reciever out of the backfield.

We have a potential TE in the wings with Lorenzo Diamond. If SS Wilson proves to be no better this year then yes, he'll be gone. If he hits his stride, maybe not (unless he wants a whole lot of money). Watch Adrian Mayes in terms of his development. He could very well turn out to be a heck of a find. This will determine what ultimately happens to Wilson.

I'm also high on Jason Goss at CB........and despite what everyone says, Hill has a role to play on this team......but I also like Macklin. He could become as key an FA signing as Berry was.

All of these guys you mentioned except for Macklin are not under contract after this year. Hill and Wilson are UFA so there will be competition to resign them. Plus all of them have nothing but potential so right now in the 2005 draft I am going to be looking at TE, SS, and CB until any of them prove anything and/or are resinged. So until then those postitions are needs in 2005 as of right now, IMO. But it should be easy to resign Goss, Diamond and Mayes as they are EFA's or RFA's in 2005.

To help anyone out who wants to know who is under contract and who isnt for those wanting get a head start on the 2005 off season here is the run down. (I think I got the RFA and UFA guys in the correct areas).

Under contract in 2005(including their base salaries, I am still doing research on the bonuses as of right now the total for bonuses is about 10 mill. with only 10 more players I am still looking up, but I am estimating the final bonus total to be about 20 mill. becuase there are a few big ones left I need to look up and verify):

Code:
Player Name Pos.	Base

Player, Scott P	$700,000
Rackers, Neil K	$540,000

Total $41,946,500

Plus estimated 20 mill in bonuses = $62,000,000 In cap space used for 2005 if no one from above is cut and all are still on the team.

Estimate cap amount for 2005 is $84,611,100.

Which means we have $22,611,100 estimated amount to spend on EFA's, RFA's , UFA's, and draft picks.

Not to bad considering we dont have very many high priced RFA's(see below for list) or UFA's(see below for list) to resign. Except for maybe McCown if he plays well enough.

k9,

Thank you for the run down on other teams MLB's size wise. In a perfect world an MLB would have McKinnon's heart, Urlacher's size and Lewis' nastiness......Hayes at 6'1" is in the ballpark height wise but yes at 238 he's a tiny bit "undersized". I think getting up to 245 would be easy from 238. Otherwise, he is fundamentally sound. He has been talked about for a year or so as a strong candidate to replace McKinnon eventually.

According to the Cards website after the last set of weigh ins, Hayes is at 242lbs.
