I dont watch a lot of other teams, so I am looking for opinions. Who is the most-improved player this year (so far)?

I'd like to submit Luke Walton. 2006 (career average)

MPG: 33.8 (16.1)
FG%: 51.1 (43.9)
3P%: 51.2 (34.7)
FT%: 76.0 (73.7)
RPG: 3.4 (1.8)
APG: 4.3 (2.1)
SPG: 1.1 (0.5)
BPG : 0.5 (0.2)
PPG 12.8 (4.5)

the shine has come off Luke considerably since Odom got hurt. Gotta be Martin in Sacto right now.

Luke Walton is a good choice for consideration, but he was a good player already, Martin was on his way to basketball obscurity and has literally exploded. You can't ignore that, regardless of the fact that the two of you are Laker fans (abomb and D-Dogg).

I believe Walton is an UFA next year. He'd be a good player for us, IMO.

We won't have the cap space because somebody will overpay. I would be worried as the lakers about dallas possibly waving the ka-ching around.

I would guess Deron Williams will get some votes if he and the Jazz keep up their pace. His improvement is one of the reasons why the Jazz have been doing well this year.

2006-2007 (2005-2006)
17.4 PPG (10.8)
48.2 FG% (42.1)
78.3 FT% (70.4)

3.6 RPG (2.4)
8.8 APG (4.5)
1.1 SPG (0.8)

Well, honestly I never paid a lot of attention to Martin other than he had good games against the Lakers. That skinny rat always hit shots against us...I wouldn't have thought he was obscure...

Just from the stats listed below, Luke was more obscure than Martin.

Kevin Martin

2006-2007 (2005-2006)
21.3 PPG (10.8)
49.5 FG% (48.0)
44.2 3pt% (36.9)
89.9 FT% (84.7)
35.5 MPG (26.6)

Luke Walton

MPG: 33.8 (16.1)
FG%: 51.1 (43.9)
3P%: 51.2 (34.7)
FT%: 76.0 (73.7)
RPG: 3.4 (1.8)
APG: 4.3 (2.1)
SPG: 1.1 (0.5)
BPG : 0.5 (0.2)
PPG 12.8 (4.5)

Not only has Luke improved all over the place, he's doing better in most categories (other than PPG and FT%) in slightly fewer minutes.

And as to PPG, Luke went from 4.5 to 12.8, almost tripling his production while Martin doubled from 10.8 to 22. From an improvement standpoint, both are deserving, but if you are going to argue that Luke was a pretty good player and Martin was traveling to obscurity, the numbers don't back that up. In fact, they show the opposite...Martin was a ten point a game guy and Walton was a 4.5.

Before his suspension JR Smith was probably a top 5 candidate. Hakim Warrick has been putting up decent numbers as well.

Close race.

Kevin Martin. How can you not admire a gym-rat like like this?
Luke Walton. See above.
L. Barbosa. Will get votes.
Deron Williams. Forget MIP. He threatens for 3rd team All-NBA.
Yao Ming. Best year... by far.
Zach Randolph. Nice bounce-back year.
Monta Ellis. Special player. Rod Strickland with hops and a J.

I read that Luke and Richard Jeffferson had a lot of hard workouts together during the off season. Looks like it paid off.

Even though the point differential is about the same for the two, it's much harder to go from scoring 10ppg to 22 ppg than it is going from 4ppg to 13. It's a difference of being the 4th option on offense to being the 1st, and a team's defense will begin to target and lock down on you more if you're a 22ppg scorer. If the season were to end right know, I'd give it to Martin.

Walton basically only gets twice the minutes he got before, Martin plays like 9 mpg more and his stats are WAY improved.

It's easily Martin.

He keeps it up and I agree.
