I really like that DraftTracker on mlb.com. They are doing a really nice job.

Now they just need a salary cap and the ability to trade draft picks and baseball could be more competitive.

For some reason, I can't get DraftTracker to work--would somebody mind occasional updates on who we've picked?

The problem is probably a pop up blocker, temporarily turn it off if you can. Also, the tracker doesnt seem to like Firefox (at least, it didnt for me).

The Diamondbacks will have the #86 and #87 Picks (3rd round) coming up.
They are at #75 and #76 (which are supplemental 2nd round picks). There is still some highly ranked pitchers still out there.

We didn't get Lincecum, but we got Oregon State's Dallas Buck, another Pac-10 stud. Very nice.

Immediately followed by USC's Keven Hankerd (OF).

4th round - How come they keep saying all our pitchers are "destined to be closers"? :)

The plan is to have Brandon Webb pitch every fifth day. All the other days, we are going to have one guy always pitch the first inning, another always pitch the second inning, etc. That way, hitters will never get a second look at any of these guys on the same day.

Dallas Buck, from BA, 2004 Cape Cod League (Miller was ranked first in the Cape that summer, Craig Hansen of the Sox was third)

4. Dallas Buck, rhp, Falmouth (Oregon State)
W-L SV ERA G IP H R ER BB SO
4-1 0 0.77 10 58.1 26 8 5 20 65

Buck didn't light up radar guns like some of the other Cape arms, but no one beat his 0.77 ERA. His low-90s fastball and slider dance around bats, and he has a lively changeup as well. The only knock on him is that his delivery could be cleaner.

"His stuff is like David Cone's," a National League scouting director said. "He has a really live, hard slider and just wicked, wicked stuff. His stuff is so electric. It's moving everywhere."

Hector Ambriz UCLA RHP

34. Hector Ambriz, rhp (National rank: 190)
School: UCLA. Class: Jr.
Hometown: Placentia, Calif.
B-T: L-R. Ht.: 6-2. Wt.: 210. Birthdate: 5/29/84.
Scouting Report: Ambriz has been the Bruins' Friday starter and cleanup hitter this season, making him one of the nation's most valuable college players. While he has a decent lefthanded bat, Ambriz' future is on the mound. He's a physical righthander who holds his solid-average stuff deep into games and competes well. Ambriz needs to trust his fastball more. It sits in the 91-92 mph range, and he does of a good job of keeping it in the lower half of the strike zone. He has several secondary pitches that could work well in the bullpen, including an 82-84 mph slider that at times has good depth. His 86-87 mph split-finger fastball has been his put-away pitch when he's been able to command it. Ambriz also toys with a curveball and changeup. Ambriz had shoulder surgery that prompted him to take a medical redshirt in 2005 but has held up under the strain of hitting and pitching this season. His body also will require hard work to keep in shape, as he has a tendency to gain weight.

Sounds like the Mexican pitcher the Dodgers had in the eighties. Fernando Valenzuella. They had to keep him away from the tacos! :)

Q: JB from Lancaster, PA asks:
John, Where do most scouts profile Hector Ambriz (UCLA)? Which round will he go in?

A: John Manuel: I love Ambriz, he's a harder thrower than Casey Janssen, but like Janssen, he's a two-way guy who will have more velo and feel for pitching as he focuses on pitching. Also like his former UCLA teammate, Ambriz is a bulldog, he's pitching Fridays, he holds his velo (91 in the ninth against Cal) . . . Imagine my Tom Heinson voice saying, "I . . . love . . . Hector!" He's got a bad body and an injury history, those are the things that cloud his status . . . I'm saying 3rd to 5th.
