Two of the top pitchers in the class, righthanders Matt Latos and Jordan Walden, lost velocity and command over the course of the summer. Latos, a 6-foot-5, 192-pounder from Coconut Creek (Fla.) High with a fluid arm action and feel for pitching, touched 96 mph and pitched at 93 the first week of July at an event in Atlanta, but sat near 90 mph at the Area Code Games.

Hughes fell really far when his velocity dipped down 2-3 mph (to about 86-89) and most people went sour because someone that tall should throw harder.
LaPorta fell extremely far because of bonus demands and he really struggled throughout the year. His situation reminds me alot about former ASU 1st baseman Larish.
Here is a blurb on Latos:
While I don't know if he has signed with Oklahoma but he is supposed to be ready to attend there and was pretty sure if he didn't get a ton of money, he would go to college.
Edit: Just read that Latos had major character issues to go along with 'immaturity' on the field. That is probably the major reason we did not pursue him.
