This may be a stupid question, but were the contract numbers ever given out for Nathan Hodel, not sure if it would be in the top 51 salaries or not, but just wanted to know?

Anyone?

He will be in the top 51 without a doubt. He almost makes 1 mill.

The players who are outside of the top 51 are usually the EFA's signed, guys who were recently signed to future deals, draft picks in rounds 3 through 7. Young guys who only got vet min deals, and so on.

I think he still has 2 Million left on his signing bonus. So it would only save us 0.75 Mil this year. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct.

Also just in case anyone brings it up I want to put the stop to it right now.

There is no such thing as the June 1st rule this year because of the 2010 uncapped year. No matter when they are cut or traded the whole prorated signing bonus will count this season. There will be no such thing as spreading out a cap hit over two season this offseason.

Thanks Joe. I couldn't find him on the sheet.

Hmmmm.....
1.75 mil savings seems right to me.

3.75 mil cap hit for this year (salary + bonus) - 2.00 mil (2009 bonus + 2010 bonus) = 1.75 mil. I'm sure I figured it wrong.

Reading isnt my strong suit. I thought he said 1.75. You are correct.

I added in an estimation of the Dansby Franchise tag as well as the estimated RFA tenders for Watson and Pope.

So our working cap dollars for the start of free agency as of right now is - $23,605,323

Note that we still only have 45 players under contract. We need 6 more before we start to get into the rule of 51. So if we add in the lowest of veteran minimums to get to that 51 players that count towards the cap, we end up with 21.75 mill.

So although we still have a good amount left over you can see just how fast that 40+ mill in estimated cap dollars before free agency is going to disappear.

.

Honestly there really aren't many or any FAs worth spending our money on outside of our own guys IMO.

If we do sign Dansby to a long term deal ... that would theoretically free up some more money correct? Of course the odds of it happening in time to do something in FA are slim to none.

Depends on if the Cards continue their trend of front loading. They might see that they still hav 20+ in cap space and think migh as well still put 9 mill of his money twoards the cap this season and save on cap later.

As for the uncapped year in 2010, I think teams will continue as if all things are normal for the simple fact that if a new deal gets done in a years time which could happen, teams would then be in a bad place because they didnt plan for the 2010 season to continue under current CBA type cap.

Knew this would happen a while ago but wanted to wait for confrimation. Well its finally here.

http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/25/salary-cap-is-expanding-for-2009/

Cap went up by 4 more mill then the projected 123 mill. It is now at 127 mill and Shefter explains why in his blog.

I will update the spreadsheet with this info this weekend once we get the real RFA tenders used for Watson and Pope, hopefully have the Lewis info and maybe some other info.

"Because teams didn’t spend as much as they were supposed to under the collective bargaining agreement the past three years, teams were notified Wednesday that the salary cap will increase over $4 million to $127 million for this coming year, according to sources with two NFL teams. The collective bargaining agreement calls for cap adjustment down if teams spend over the cap in cash and adjustment up if they don’t spend up to the cap."

Pretty much just because the cap went way up over the last few years teams still arent spending like crazy like the players thought they would in their last CBA agreement.

Any idea on the truth of the Rolle deal?

Somers says it inflates this year, Urban says 2010.

Depending on what kind of contract he signs, it will free up some cap room. Probably giving us an extra $1-2 million to spend.

2010 is for sure. Have not got any confrimation on 2009. Sommers says it could raise up to 5.1 and Urban says it could raise "some". As to the exact value I am not sure. I am also not sure if it is a bonus or if his base salary gets a boost.

Cap Spread sheet is up to date as of 2-27-09

Changes or additions -

Dansby Franchise Tag

Watson RFA Tender

Pope RFA Tender

All of the EFA's we just signed yesterday

I also found out for certian this escalator for Rolle we have all been hearing about. His base salary was 1.66 mil., and his escalator rose his base salary by only 1.905 mill. Putting his final base salary at 3.565 mil.

Rose the Cap Max from 124 to 127 mill. like was reported.

Do cards have enough to give mcfadden what foxeorth got?

They could sign 4 of them, thats how easily it would fit in the cap even if it was a straight line deal that cost the same amount each season, instead of the usual lower the first year then gradually move up from there type contract.
