why is no one talking about the suns being major players during the 2010 free agency period...we have amare, shaq, and nash all coming off of the books. We should have more available money than anyone right? bosh? Wade? lebron obv goes to NY but who do you think we will go after?

Because it's 2008?

Let's worry about 2010 FAs after the trading deadline next season and see where we really are at....

if you followed the cavaliers at all, you'd know that LeBron has said more than a couple times that he is happy in cleveland. Most recently at a public rally for something or another, he said "I love you Cleveland, I'm not going anywhere". If anything the cavs are going to look to bring in help for him

I keep hearing all these people talk like him going to NY is a sure thing but I'll believe it when I see it. NY is a bigger market but he's already such a big star internationally it's not like he can get any more exposure. Also, right now he's the biggest thing in Ohio. If he goes to the Knicks he's just another NY sports star. The Giants just won a Superbowl and have big stars like Eli Manning. The Yankees have A-Rod, Jeter, etc. and Steinbrenner is willing to shell out big bucks for any other superstar that becomes available. Hockey doesn't get as much pub overall but the Rangers are the top team in the NHL right now and NY is a hockey area. Even if he starts winning MVPs he's not going to be the god-like figure there that he is in Ohio.

hes going to leave. the cavaliers are willing to pay HIM, but not for players to surround him.

The Cavs are trying to be competitive with Varejo, David West, Z, Boobie, and Pavovic getting the bulk of the minutes. He CANT win with that. You need a 2nd player taht is an allstar or up to 3rd All-NBA team to win.

Kobe has Bynum and Gasol with other servicable players
Amare has Nash and Shaq with servicable players
Carmelo has AI
Paul Pierce has KG and Ray Allen
Joe Johnson has Josh Smith
Bosh has JO

I forsee the Knicks clearing their books by taking large contracts and selling the farm to unite Amare, the best big possible to run the Mike DAntoni system with LeBron possibly the best player ever. these two mixed with some players that palyed in the run-and-gun system for a few years would be Dynasty.

Psssh. Like that means anything. Who was it just a couple years ago who, after winning the National Championship with Syracuse, proclaimed his allegiance to the school and vowed to be back? Guess what? He entered the draft that same year....

He didnt vow to come back. It was clear he wasn't goiong to, he just told a crowd gathered at the Carrier Dome that he might have to come back for one more year. No vow or allegiance, although he did donate 3.5 million to Syracuse.

well first of all, i don't think spending is the issue with the cavs. they picked up wally and big ben's absolutely terrible deals. they also picked up williams who is pretty overpaid himself. they spent money to lock up gibson and west, who are both pretty good role players.

i do hope lebron at least fields offers from other teams, it would be dumb not to consider. if the cavs don't figure out a way to get him someone really good (it is yet to be seen exactly how good mo will be for lebron, but so far so good) i wouldn't be stunned to see him leave to somewhere else. i wouldn't count on that place being new york or new jersey unless they can wrangle some other star player(s) to go as well. kinda like how kg waited until the C's got allen before he approved the trade there.

With the moves NY has made today, they will be a major player in 2010 free agency. With only about $18M committed, they should have enough money to sign two top tier free agents to max contracts. But if Amare opts out, so will the Suns, with only around $17M committed (Diaw/Barbosa/Dragic). Even with Amare staying, we should have enough to sign one free agent to a max deal.

suns need to dump barbosa. He actually can be traded with his salary, unlike boris.

If they get rid of barbosa (whose game i think has worn out its welcome here as well) they will have around 37-38 million dollars to spend. That's with amare keeping his option.

At an early-voter registration rally last month in Cleveland, James made his strongest comments to date about wanting to stay in his home state.

"I love you, Cleveland," he said. "I love Ohio and I'm not going anywhere."
But James softened his stance last night.

"I am from (northeast Ohio)," he said. "Home is home for me that's what I was referring to at that time. No matter where you go or if you ever move somewhere else, it doesn't matter, home is always going to be home."

James said winning a title will be the most important thing for him in free agency.

"When I decide to make that decision, it is basically to put me in a position where I feel like I can win multiple championships," he said. "If it's staying here, then I will be here. If it's moving elsewhere, then I will have to look at all my options."

LeBron has a clause in his Nike contract that if he ends up in a major market, like L.A. and New York, he gets about a $10 mil bonus per year. Plus, money is a MAJOR motivating factor for this guy. He has publicly stated on many occasions that he wants to be the worlds first billion dollar athlete (not even Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan or anyone else holds this distinction).

Subtext: he'll be in NY or Brooklyn in 2010.

i like the suns to get Wade in 2010.

I figure he'd go home to CHI of go to NY as he has said he would love to play in D'Antoni's fast paced offense. If DA was still here then we'd have a chance. Joe Johnson would be great but a reunion with DA might be tempting.

JJ hated DA and his system if you were aware of his comments at the departure to Atl. He didn't want to be the "decoy" in the corner for Nash, and 3rd banana. And he proved that he had potential to be the go-to scorer capable of carrying his own team in Atl. Well, he might reconsider if he were to play the Nash role in DA's system.:D

But James having money as his top priority isn't make-believe at all. It matters to him more than anything else, certainly more than winning. For him, money is the definition of success.

I say let him go to New York. He's not going to win anything there.

Not likely with DA as his headcoach anyways.;)

That was when he hadn't developed into the star he is now. There will be no Nash in NY and he would be a focal point of the offense with Labron if he ends up there.
