Bradley's tactics and the lack of urgency when it comes to adjustments during the match pale in comparison to his inability to have the team prepared to play from the opening whistle. Bradley frustrates the heck out of me and has made me he pessimist I am becoming.

I doubt the USSF really has the cash needed to fire Bradley (not to mention hire somebody more prestigious) even if they wanted to. People forget that while the USSF isn't out for profit, they're an entity that has to raise the majority of their money in only a few days out of the year in order to pay for a lot of other operations (like the development programs and whatnot).

Boo hoo. Maybe they shouldn't have given him a brand-new contract! Suck it up, USSF!

Dude, USSF is so locked in with corporate sponsors, they could call up Nike or Gatorade or Budweiser and have cash on hand to do whatever the hell they want if it meant raising interest in soccer in this country.

The USSF is locked into a slow-growth plan because they believe it's more stable, not because it costs too much money. They're trying to slowly warm up to the U.S. rather than doing the hard sell. It's why they shot down the NASL -- because they feared D2 soccer would do more damage to American perspective than help it. I personally suspect Gulati and Mike Edwards are so obsessed with changing American perspective they're willing to stick with a mediocre American college coach than hire a more fitting European who would offend rednecks (who will never support the sport, anyway).

The USSF is about tomorow. Always about tomorrow. Eternally about tomorrow. It's a great message, because tomorrow never comes. It's always today. And today we're preaching about tomorrow. Gulati is a master of that message. And why not? It keeps him in a great job!

It isn't really a job, as Gulati doesn't get paid.

He is a finalist for the Algeria job, but I think with similar money offered he'd take the US job first....having a home here and an American wife.

If we lose to Jamaica 5-0, there's hope, right?

:D

I just got an email saying the quarterfinal game in Wash, DC is sold out. Should be a lot of fun and loud.

The other Quarterfinal venue (New Meadowlands) sold out as well.

80K plus in NY/NJ
48K in Wash DC

Playing doubleheaders at each venue was a smart idea. I am going to guess the semifinals will be sold out in Houston as well.

Costa Rica/Honduras has been pretty entertaining...1-1 with the last period of OT to be played. Honduras saved a PK in the second half and there have been some nice saves and good defensive efforts. The only blackmark is all the diving by Honduras, it really is a shame because they are outplaying CR IMO.

After a 1-1 game, Honduras wins 4-2 on PKs, Costa Rica hit the cross bar twice and Honduras made all of theirs.

Guatemala has jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Mexico. Guatemala's tactics are pretty simple, play 1 up front, defend in numbers, foul in the midfield when Mexico starts working the ball around and try to play long balls over the top to Ruiz. I don't think it is going to work long, they aren't even making much effort of maintaining possesion, eventually Mexico is going to wear them down.

The real test for Mexico is not losing their cool, which they have a habit of doing when frustrated and playing from behind.

Mexico comes back in the 2nd..... 2-1 Final. Guatemala did give us an idea of what it will take to beat them though.

Bunkering? Yeah lol

There was no way Guatemala was going to have success trying to defend for 85 minutes, it was just a matter of time. #9 on Guatemala should have been sent off for that challenge on Marquez too so they were lucky they weren't trying that 10 on 11

Donovan doing sub duty. He has had a poor tournament but there has to be something other than the travel going on. Its possible he isnt as fully recovered from whatever kept him out of the Spain game as the US earlier said.
