Diamondbacks have to take at least 3 of the 4 games against the worst team in baseball, the Astros. Not a good start as they are down 5-0 in the first inning. :bang:

Bases loaded, 2 down, Rodriguez has walked two of the baserunners. Cowgill comes up and hacks at the first pitch he sees. Dribbler to 3rd, inning over. Against a pitcher he has never seen in his life.

Good job rookie.

To be fair, it was actually the second pitch :) But I know what you mean.

I cannot believe we are losing 7-0 right now.

I think they've got a bit too relaxed after that Giants series. It's like they thought they got the tough one out of the way and these series would be a walk in the park.

I'm surprised Parra did not start. I don't care about the lefty on lefty matchup. He did hit a homer last week off a lefty.

I love what Gibby has done this year, but on this I am in total agreement. He puts WAY too much emphasis on the righty/lefty b.s. He's done this all year and it drives me nuts. Think of all the baseball players you can. How many of them sit because of which hand the pitcher throws with?

Honestly, would you rather have a .290 hitting Parra or Cowgill? I mean SERIOUSLY Gibby?

I think it is more a case of having every position player on the roster in "game" condition. It is an interesting debate.

Do you keep every player happy by giving them starts . . . or does every position player come to the part knowing his role, whether starter or bench?

Personally, I can go as far as accepting a platoon. Two set lineups all season long, depending on whether a righty or lefty is starting for the opponent.

But I didn't like when Brenly used 130 different batting orders in a season or when Melvin treated each batting order as a new beginning and I don't like it now.

Even worse, the ones with a set spot in the order -- Johnson batting second and Young batting cleanup -- (as has been mentioned) is just wrong, and makes it more difficult for everyone else in the lineup to see good pitches.

With my usual practice of listening to the radio play-by-play while killing the sound on the TV, I heard Jeff Munn (a young Vin Scully) predict unemotionally that he expects Kirk Gibson to hold a closed door team meeting very soon. The players were downright lethargic.

Too much of our lineup tonight vs. Houston looked like a closing lineup in Spring Training -- guys who should be wearing numbers in the 80's and 90's on their back.

The narrative for this team the entire season still holds true... Kennedy and Hudson have to be CY Young lights out just to give the team a shot... And, coupled with that, the only legit major league bat we have in the lineup - Upton, MUST come through, or else...
Unfortunately, Hudson has fallen off a cliff, which means we have one quality starter at the moment, one who is proving to be fairly decent in Saunders, and one who had been lights out until he fell off the cliff... meanwhile, Hernandez, Duke, Patterson and Putz have been terrific. Go figure... :bang:

Couldn't agree more. Parra should be batting second or 6th. Period.

Move Kelly to the 8 hole, he's earned it. While we're at it bump CY down to 7th, he's earned that too.

Not sure how to set up the rest. There are some obvious ones (IMHO), like Willie 1st, and Parra or Roberts 2nd. The rest I'm torn. I'd like to see Upton 4th but who bats 3rd? Goldy?

I don't know. This team is still missing a bopper. It has to come from one of the corners.

Like I said, I love Gibby but it sure does seem like he is afraid to bruise ego's. Kelly and CY HAVE to be moved down.

Just got back. What an ugly game.

The biggest laugh of the night was the announced attendance of over 17,000. Yeah, right. Nowhere near that number. I'm sure it's based on tickets sold and not actual bodies through the gate.

You literally could count the people in the ballpark.

We were sitting in 306 and went down in to the Diamond level and sat in 204 and the indoor lounge area for different parts of the game. No one cared at all. Ticket checkers just waved you on without caring to check for a ticket.

Ridiculous to have such a small crowd for a team so close to the division lead.

I've always said this isn't a baseball town, but it goes deeper than that. If the Dbacks make the playoffs people will go to the games, but I think that too many people have deep seeded loyalties to other teams.

The NFL and NBA are still relatively new in terms of popularity so people who move here from other states will either switch to Cardinal or Suns fans or they will have 2 teams.

Most of the out of staters I know will kinda support the Dbacks, but they are Whitesox, Redsox, Yankee, Indian, etc. etc. etc fans first and foremost and they have no interest in going to the games unless it's the Playoffs or we are playing "their team."

I'm going tonight, hope it's a better game than last night. I dont like the energy I'm seeing from this team since we took the first 2 in San Fran.

Phoenix has only had a MLB team for what, 13 years or so? Many baseball fans here in the Valley are from cities and towns that have had teams for decades, if not centuries... Growing up 20 miles outside of Yankee Stadium, I will always be a Yankee fan... A-Rod and all... :bang:
However, I have absolutely taken on the D-Backs as my team as well and, should they face each other in a World Series again, I feel as though I couldn't lose and in many respects, wouldn't mind at all if the D-Backs came out on top.
Hope the battle in 2001 was not the last!

Marquis getting hit hard and the Dbacks are down 4-1 in the 3rd. This is pathetic.

Another error on a simple play. What are they doing out there? Their heads aren't in the game.

82: I have to admire you taking the DBacks as your team. Most all Yankee fans will continue to be Yankees fans because they can throw the 27 or whatever championships in your face even though our team has been around just over a decade. Forget the $$$ issue. It is refreshing to hear your unbiased opinions. I'm not sure I could do it coming where you came from.

Great win by the Diamondbacks. Putz almost blew it but made a very nice play to end the game. Parra with four hits should see the line-up tomorrow.
