I agree it's a team effort and our "timely hits" have all but evaporated, but the bottom line is we had the game one late all week and we keep blowing it.

I agree with you 100% though, hitters are stinking it up too, especially Upton and Young. I sure hope we can break out of this slump.

Heard a stat today that is mind-boggling... The Dbacks are 5 for their last 48 with runners in scoring position! :bang: Their pitching staff has been working miracles!

Wow, Roberts leads of the inning with a triple and Johnson, Upton and Drew come through with arguably the 3 worst at bats of the season.

Down 5-0 against Matt Cain in the 5th and rally, but fall short 6-5. This team has fight even though they lost.

Could have won it in the 9th too. Brian Wilson was struggling with his command, walking 2 and throwing a wild pitch putting the tying and go-ahead runners in scoring position. He got some help from a very generous strike zone by the ump, which caught Drew staring at strike 3.

Went to the game tonight. Had a blast. This team never quits although everyone was pretty pissed when Drew stood there with the bat on his shoulder. I couldn't see from my seat, was it a borderline pitch or did he just clam up?

Anyways, Dbacks games are always fun, here's a few pics.

The pitch was 6 inches outside of the strike zone, just like 8 of the 10 called strikes by that ump. They were showing the strike zone and they were all well out.

If you give any pitcher the Greg Maddux treatment they will win that battle.

I dont know, looking at the replay the pitch is awefully close. Looks like it did end up outside but even in little league they teach you to defend the plate in that situation. The point is that with the game on the line, 2 outs, 2 strikes,,,, Drews gotta swing at that pitch. I'm not raggin on Steven, he's been playing like a stud, everyone makes mistakes, this one just happened to end the game. Protect the plate next time Drewwwwwww.

Oh well, we live to play another day, can still take first place back if we win the next 2.

They showed it on foxtrax and it was outside but you can't take a pitch that close with two strikes.

True, it was just the icing on the cake after calling about 3-4 pitches that were clearly not strikes wrong earlier in the inning.

Yup...although those 3-4 other pitches still resulted in walks, it showed either a) favoritism for the pitcher b) incompetence or c) ump wanting to **** of the game. I thought that was complete garbage. Had that been a called a ball, the next pitch would have probably been down the middle, giving Drew an opportunity to get a single, which would have won the game IMO.

The most frustrating play of the game was the throw to second to get the base stealer in the 5th (I think). The problem? No one paid attention to the runner on 3rd. He scored easily while the team was playing pickle.

Yeah Miggy blew that play big time. He should have at least looked at third base. He didn't. I'm sure Gibson will be talking to him about that.

Plays like that are so weird. These guys have been playing baseball almost all day every day since they were eight. Shouldn't it be second nature to look at 3rd by now?

Yeah you guys shoulda heard the crowd during that play. Miggy threw it to 2nd and they started the pickle with that guy and the runner started home and the entire 3rd base line side of the crowd starts pointing at him and yelling. It was kinda funny actually, we all did a collective; "hey,,, hey,,, HEY!! THE GUY! HOME! NOOOOOO!" I think they just totally forgot about him in the moment.

Drew has a pretty good reputation as a disciplined batter and I think he's used influencing the umpires by taking pitches. He's taken pitches much closer in a 3-2 situation and drawn walks. The problem is eventually you're going to get an ump that has his own will, a different interpretation of Drew's strike zone, and it will become apparent at the most inopportune time. It just happened to come against the Giants, so it doubly hurts.

Rule #1 for catchers: if there are runners in 1st and 3rd and the runner on 1st wants to steal, let him take the base

ESPECIALLY when there are 2 outs, you have the number 8 hitter in an 0-2 count, and the pitcher on deck. Stupid, stupid play by miggy.

Yep Miggy should have treated it just like a defensive indifference situation.

Steven just took pretty much the exact same pitch for strike 3 with runners on 1st and 2nd and 1 out in the 6th and then gave the ump an earful,,, again... This is not a good habit to get into. Dude needs to stop complaining and start protecting the plate with 2 strikes.

Good job Matt Williams, way to kill the rally, probably cost us e game. Johnson was out by 20 feet.

When I saw him waving Kelly home I knew he would be out by a mile. Dumb decision on Williams.

He's been good all year, but that was an awful call! It's pretty clear that the Giants are still a step ahead of us...Towers needs to hurry up and bring in Kerry Wood, and send Goldy up to AAA for a little bit.:) I was looking at the Giants' schedule, and boy do they have it easy for the next couple weeks! If we're only 2 back at the beginning of July, I'll be happy.

In his defense that ball did take an absolutely PERFECT bounce for the Giants but Johnson still probably had no chance, Williams should have played it safe at that point.

It was a bad call, but I don't think you hang the 3rd base coach for a bad one. He hasn't done anything to endanger baserunners' health and his aggressiveness has paid off more than it's hurt this season.
