I'll take personal responsibility for that one... I didn't have time to post a rant about the need to trade CY lately. Had I done so, he would've smacked a home run last night in that spot. Sorry... :bang:

a squeeze play would have worked. also if Putz is so tired why the hell was he pitching in a non save situation? Gibby is starting to over think. Time to call up the AA 1B, im done with the sorry rotation @ 1st.

The biggest mistake in the bottom of the 8th was by Drew. He had a 3-2 count and then swung at a ball way off the plate and fouled it. If he takes the walk, they have first & third and no outs and Upton would be pitched to, not intentionally walked. Young had a bad at bat that inning but he did bring in one of the runs in the first inning with his double.

You are absolutely right. That is one of the fine points of the game. Do I want to leave 1B open for our hottest hitter and only real heart-of-the-batting order type guy?

Realizing that kind of strategy is what separates the great teams from the good or mediocre teams.

I believe in this team, but it's clear we need the All-Star Break now...Hopefully we can stop the bleeding here and get a lucky win after blowing it yet again. So disappointing.

I agree 100%

I believe in the team mainly because of Gibby and his ability to get into his player's heads. Teams go through peaks and valleys all of the time and I think right now, the bullpen is the weak link.

I wonder if Putz is still battling injury or if he's been missing his pitches. I know on the radio, they said he's hit or miss (literally and figuratively) on his splitter, which is his out pitch.

What a GREAT game! Huge win! Willy Mo has to stay with this team...I know there is speculaton that after inter-league play he will be sent back to Reno, but man we need his bat!!
Tremendous outing from Hudson. Parra with a great game. Roberts with a great walk and two stoeln bases in the final inning...

Putz needs a breather... Thank god the break is coming soon. However, come late July and then August, we could be in trouble if we don't find a 2nd option to Putz.

We really needed that. Wily Mo!!! I think it would do wonders to have a 7th inning guy who we can put in these positions if Hernandez and Putz need that rest. I like some of the other guys we have in the bullpen, but not yet to have in those situations. Let's see if Towers does anything about it.

Also, looking back on the thread, what's wrong with going after David Wright? I haven't followed him much, but just know that he's had one tough year and was very solid before that. What am I missing?

^How do you suggest we get Wily some PT? 1B over Miranda, and try to trade him?

He's hitting .226 and has been injured a good portion of the season.

Did he have the type of injury that will affect him for the rest of the year? And I was also thinking in the off-season since he'll be a free agent and our other needs should be filled somewhat by prospects (Bauer, Parker, Goldy), so we can spend some money at 3B...

It's really the option... he can't play any other position. I'm not saying he needs to be an everyday player. But clearly, he needs a consistent # of at-bats... Honestly, I like what he brings more than Miranda and Nady... Since Miranda is a lefty, maybe you do the righty-lefty thing with he and Willy Mo, and leave Nady as an option to spell the outfielders?? I know Blomquist has been filling that role as well, but, we need to keep Willy Mo on this team...

Wright has played with a broken back for a while.

He is damaged goods and is paid way too much.

Honestly, unless we can find a significant replacement, I think the team needs to hold on to Roberts.

The talk out of NY is that the Mets won't be able to keep Reyes and so they won't let Wright go as well...

I agree with you, and that could work...I just like Nady slightly more than Miranda, but I guess it doesn't matter because I hope Goldschmidt will be able to replace them at some point this year.

Edit: That's unfortunate about Wright...would have really helped us.

Putz is not a devastating closer. I fear this is going to be a problem going forward.

And the Yankees have been mentioned as a potential suitor.

That would be really interesting to see how Girardi would adjust the left part of his infield.

Perhaps Jeter goes to 3rd and A-Rod to DH?

I believe it would open up a huge can of worms for that ball club.

His struggles began after he returned from injury.

I fear his back is worse than he wants to let on and that would be the problem going forward if he is not given some rest.

The fact we've used him and Hernandez almost everyday doesn't help matters. I think he's ineffective mostly because he's EXHAUSTED

The allstar break will do wonders for him

As for Big Willy Mo, the Dbacks are going to be in for a tough decision at the Allstar break. Do they a) keep Wily as a key bench player with occasional starts to get more ABs or b) trade him to an AL contender and rob them blind?

Tough choice but it will be good for us either way probably. Not bad for a guy we picked up off the trash heap

Yup - Wily's performance has been a win-win.

Wins for the Dbacks now, high market value.

Trust me on this one... The Yanks are not a possible suitor and will not be going after Reyes.

What do you think we could get for Willy Mo?
