Get to know a little bit about QB prospect Ricky Stanzi through a catch all.

A tall, lean quarterback who showcases good balance in his drop from under center and quickly is able to get away from the line of scrimmage. However, gets sloppy with his footwork when asked to get the football out of his hands quickly. Has done a better job as a senior staying more balanced in the pocket when asked to scan the field and go through his reads. However, he still doesn't do a pretty job transitioning his weight from his back foot to his front when the ball has to come out quickly without a hitch. Also, is inconsistent with his accuracy on bucket throws because again, doesn't really drive off his back foot, throws with too much arm only and has a tendency to miss down the field.

Displays a smooth, over-the-top delivery and doesn't have any trouble with passes getting knocked down at the line. Looks comfortable on the move and is a good enough athlete to buy time for himself, keep his eyes down the field and create outside the pocket. Showcases a good feel in the pass game and has done a much better job as a senior deciphering defenses at the line, quickly going through his progressions and taking much better care of the football. Doesn't throw into traffic nearly as much as last season, and seems to have a much better command of the offense and his ability to locate secondary receivers. However, needs to do a better job moving his footwork along with his progressions. At times will fail to reset his feet and realign his body with the target, which again causes his accuracy to suffer.

Possesses average arm strength and nice touch down the field when he is able to step up into a throw. Improved his ability to improvise this season and looks affected when asked to get outside the pocket, keep his eyes down the field and make a sound decision on his run/pass option. Is a tireless worker, a real tape/gym rat who works hard, has a very high character grade and is the kind of guy you want leading your offense. Has a real calm/cool demeanor, doesn't get rattled and is his own biggest critic. Is the kind of guy you want to work with.

Impression: A nice-sized quarterback with good athleticism and a good enough arm to make all the throws. Matured as a senior, taking much better care of the football and doing a better job going through his progressions and reading defenses. However, his biggest obstacle to overcome at this stage is his inconsistent footwork. He's a good enough athlete to overcome it, but will need some time to mature in that area of his game.

Positives: Accuracy took a nice leap this year with his completion percentage jumping eight points from last season (56 to 64 percent)... Has worked on his throwing motion in the past year which has paid dividends... Improved decision maker as a senior... A true game manager, understands his offense, the players around him, and has a high football IQ to boot... Has a short memory, doesn't get down on himself... Great intangibles, a team-first, high-character player... A winner; has shown the ability to lead his team from behind in the fourth quarter... Good size and frame for the position... Consistent, threw a touchdown pass in every single game this year... Played in a pro-style offense under Kirk Ferentz.

Negatives: Average arm strength, nothing spectacular about this throws... Would like to see him lead his receivers better in the middle of the field, doesn't set up his receivers very well... Footwork has been a problem, he's inconsistent with his drop steps and doesn't always set his feet before throwing... Prior to this year, he appeared turnover prone... Not a great runner, gets chased from behind and doesn't have any open field moves when asked to take off with the ball... Limited ceiling because of his average physical talents... Will be 24 years old at the start of the 2011 NFL season.

01/27/2011 - SENIOR BOWL PRACTICE, WEDNESDAY: Stanzi's practice was very similar to Locker's. He came up short on multiple passes when his receiver was in perfect position to receive the throw and sailed the ball on seam passes. He is able to stand tall and deliver a tight ball from the pocket, which will entice teams who like his 6-foot-4, 221-pound frame and starting experience. - NFLDraftScout.com

High football IQ, true game manager, understands the offense

Tireless worker, real tape/gym rat, works hard, high character

Kind of guy you want leading your offense

Cool calm demeanor, doesn't get rattled and is his own biggest critic

Consistant

Played in a pro style offense

Is the kind of guy you want to work with

Call me crazy but of all the reviews I've read does this guy seem like the type of guy that Whiz would love and could take the hard coaching that he dishes out to his quarterbacks?

Some of what I read reminded me a little bit of Warner.

I'm interested in him, but he'd be a project and there's at least already one on the roster.

Definitely a project, but also definitely a player in the mold of what Whis seems to like. Likes to take chances with the ball though, often making spectacular completions, but in the pro's those would be int's. Will need time to develop.

Iowa really imploded at the end of the year and I think that hurt Stanzi's stock.

A good quote from a poster over at nfldraftcountdown forums that seems to ring true.:

Overall, there's really nothing he is amazing at and nothing he's awful at in terms of physical attributes. His biggest strength is his attitude/mentality, and his biggest weakness is his decision making. Somehow, they cancel each other out

He's not nearly the project that Skelton is. I can't recall who I was listening to on the Sirius the other day, but Stanzi's name came up. The guy said that his stock is on the rise & he he'll definitely go in the 2nd round. The guy said he thought Stanzi would turn out to be the best NFL QB of this draft!!

Definition of a career #2 or #3 QB. He's Max Hall with NFL-caliber talent. Wouldn't spend more than a 4th rounder for him. He could be Matt Hasselback (best case scenario) or one of those QBs who comes into the postseason with some juice and you never hear from again (like Omar Jacobs, D.J. Shockley, Rohan Davey, etc.).
