hahahaha

hey at least the mavs pulled off the upset in round 1.

huh? they were the 3 seed. only in mavericks land could actually winning a series where you're favored to win be a surprise.

i pray to God I'm wrong, but I think the Lakers roll in 5.

Lets send them back Vince, picks and fillers for Dwight and Arenas albatross contract if Dwight agrees to stay or waive his player option. :D

I won't say bro. I won't say.

But you know it's about a 50/50 at this point...

Dwight is such a "Shaq-wanna-be" i wont be surprised if he wants to go to LA. Dudes loves the camera way too much.

they're certainly high up in the running.

I am not so sure the Lakers are high up on that list now that Phil is retiring. If Phil was coming back I would feel differently. One, we have seen how teams do after Phil leaves. Second, Howard's reasoning for wanting to get out of Orlando would be to win IMO.

He might like the spotlight but I don't buy that is his only motivation. He has been very vocal the past few seasons around trading deadlines to try and get the Magic to get pieces around him to win a title. That tells me he really wants to win.

Going to team that hasn't proven they can win without PJ, let alone get the "best of Kobe" (the non-selfish ball hogging version) without PJ, may not exactly be an ideal situation. It wasn't until PJ returned that they started to get players wanting to come there again. There has yet to be a coach that has followed Phil that could keep things going. I believe that will be true again when he leaves.

you mean, we've seen how the Bulls do after Jordan, Pippen and Phil left and how the Lakers did after Shaq and Phil left. in this situation, the Lakers aren't going to be losing ANYTHING, much less 3 of the greatest players of all time like previous Jackson teams did.

Second, Howard's reasoning for wanting to get out of Orlando would be to win IMO.

right... and going to a team that likely will have made the Finals for 4 straight years is probably a pretty good bet to try and accomplish that goal, no?

agreed... and looking at the HORRIFIC contract situation that the Magic are in, it will take a miracle to do that there. Do you realize they still owe arenas 60 million bucks over the next 3 years... 60 MILLION BUCKS... FOR ARENAS!?

I really think this is an incredibly flawed argument for the reasons stated above... that Bulls team sucked after Phil left... but it lost the greatest player of all time and the best second banana of all time... and the Lakers fell apart after Phil left... but they lost the most dominating big man in the game. This Lakers teams stand to lose no one. That doesn't mean they're a shoo-in to win next year as I do think without Jackson, they won't have that killer edge as they do with him, but I think you're fooling yourself if you don't think they're going to be a title contender for at least another couple years as is and if they got Howard, they'd be able to continue an extended run.

that's my biggest fear.

Arent the Lakers a bit old for him to go there?

Gasol's still got 3 good years left in him at least and Kobe's got two and that's why it's an almost perfect place for him. He can be the guy who extends the run and wins titles now and then becomes the centerpiece of a team in LA, who's always shown they'll do what it takes to win titles once those guys fall off.

personally, I hope he ends up in the bronx or chicago, but i've just got a sinking suspicion he ends up in LA.

What would he do in the Bronx? Drive a cab?

Nah, there'd be no room in the cab. That biceps probably holds 2 passenger seats all by itself :)

Anyway, I was hoping to see more from the Magic, but Atlanta absolutely bested them. Their shooting was awful, that's what a good defense means to a team.

If Howard would somehow end up in Miami, it would be scary. I just hope it won't be the Lakers. The Clippers would be a big surprise. Imagine a frontcourt of Griffin and Howard!

actually i was being sarcastic. I guess I should have put the sarcasm thing in there so you knew what I meant.

I don't live in dallas so I don't get the local homer coverage. I'd imagine most of dallas expected the mavs to win that series. the national coverage for the most part was picking portland to upset dallas and win that series.

as far as lakers mavs...i think any reasonable fan would give the lakers the edge. on PTI they made a good point today. they said that dallas has tried this formula for years of having their 10th best player be almost as good as their 2nd best player.

If they have any shot their guys have to really catch fire from the outside. I think the mavericks proved that they can play physical basketball with portland, but the blazers don't have a kobe on their team. the blazers have aldridge and a bunch of good talent(in a way almost like the mavs). the lakers have gasol/bynum...then kobe....and a bunch of good guys. the mavs really have to attack the paint and catch fire from the outside to win this series. If not it could be over in 5.

In this matchup everybody talks about the lakers length in the pain being too much to handle for dallas. But i don't think that is where their major problem is. Dirk, chandler, and haywood can match gasol, bynum, and odom in scoring and rebounding. (I'm not saying chandler or haywood are better than bynum). but they have to play well in this series.

the major nightmare for dallas is kobe and artest. while dallas does have marion who will guard both...the next defender is kidd now that butler is gone. the kobe and artest combo matches up with a marion/kidd/terry/barea combo. the mavericks simply cannot matchup on defense and to me it was the backcourt that was their undoing in the last two losses to LA. Of corse carlisle will probably start stevenson in the backcourt, but he won't stay with him in key stretches when artest and kobe are together. the whole terry being a 6th man is a sham. the guy gets starter mins and it is simple. if terry doesn't hit shots, the mavs lose.

Officials working hard to keep San Antonio in this. Spurs' plan to flop Conley into foul trouble is backfiring on them though...this Vasquez kid is hitting his shots.

Darrell Arthur is playing well and I recall really wanting him over RoLo in the 2008 draft.

I really like the memphis squad. I loved Conley in college...Randolph is tough, lots of respect for Battier, Pau's little brother is turning into a solid center. I don't like Tony Allen, but he's a gamer and brings toughness. Mayo is a talented troubled kid.

Then you have Gay who isn't even playing right now.

Talented team. They wanted this matchup with the Spurs, they got it, and they did what they knew they could do. Much respect...
