As long as they hover around .500 while everyone is out and they'll be fine.

.500 ball with key people out and dry weather making pitches flat on the road is pretty good. If they can hang here until June, when people come back and humidity picks up on the road, they should be good to go. I'm a little concerned about Ian Kennedy's location, but it's probably nothing.

Meanwhile, Bauer is 3-0 with a .69 WHIP, 20KO, 12BB. He's only given up 1ER in 13 innings. His pitch count must be crazy to only pitch 13 innings in 3 games, though. At some point they're just going to have to trust him and let him go.

Corbin 1-0 in 2 starts with 1.23 WHIP. 11SO to 4BB. 13 innings.

Tyler Skaggs is 0-1 in 2 stars, with a 1.27 WHIP. 4ER in 11 innings, but a nice 15K and only 2BB. Throwing strikes. Also must be under a tight pitch count limit.

Mobile has a collective 2.78 ERA, second behind Jacksonville in Southern League. Kids could get called up to Reno before All-Star break.

Saw him last night on the mound at Chase Field??

Meanwhile, the team is putting up a pathetic effort against the lowly Pirates. Geez... in the first inning alone, they forced Pitt's starter to throw 35 pitches and still only got one run across the plate.
Hudson pitched well. In the 8th, he gets 2 quick out and then gives up 2 bloop/weak singles... Gibby yanks him and brings in Hernandez who promptly gives up a sharp single and the go ahead run. Uggghhhh... I think I would've left Hudson in the game if I were Gibby as he only needed one more out.
We've banged out a whopping 5 hits...though, on the plus side Kubel has 2 of them. He's going to have to step up and play big with both CY and Upton out of the lineup for a while...

100 pitches is Hudson's cap. He left having thrown 97, which is a lot of pitches for a guy who throws a lot of sliders.

5 straight losses

In those games, we've averaged 2 runs, the other teams 6 runs (approx) per game.

With no Chris Young, we can't seem to produce runs. And as I suggested earlier, we have some pitching problems. as evidenced by the other teams' run production.

Maybe Kennedy will inspire our whole team today..... or not. Maybe Upton will get his first RBI in 16 games... or not. I, along with others, will keep my fingers crossed. :(

I don't like being in 4th place.....

There's some runs!

Parra with a Grand Slam. Kennedy also had an RBI with a bases loaded walk right before that. Up 5-1 early.

Kennedy, once again, didn't have his best stuff, but we won.

Intentionally walking our #8 hitter to get to our Pitcher, who walked in a run with the bases loaded. Then, today's leadoff hitter, Parra, with a slam. Sweet!

BTW, Parra is showing that, if he had to, he can play Center Field.

It's still very early and a ton more will happen before all is said and done... BUT, I can't help but feel some angst over the incredibly poor at-bats being put up by Upton and Goldschmidt... Yes, I expect to see this stuff from guys like Roberts, Hill, Bloomquist... but, this team desperately needs certain key players to step up and demonstrate the ability to consistently be a force at the plate. CY was moving in that direction and will hopefully resume his pace when he comes back. But, Upton and Goldy look completely lost. If the D-Backs are to make a legit run at the post season, they are going to need better and more consistent production at the plate. And guys like Upton and Goldy are going to have to produce, not to mention Roberts, Montero, Kubel, Parra, Hill & Bloomquist...

If you haven't noticed, Upton is playing with a bad thumb and is not near 100%, but the Diamondbacks need him due to CY being out. Goldschmidt hasn't even played a full year, give him time. I was glad to see Roberts sitting on the bench. Maybe he'll realize he is hurting the team more by trying to hit a homer every time he is up.

They "need" a guy who is clearly hurting? Who looks totally lost at the plate?? How is that helping the team? They would be better off shutting him down and letting the thumb heal up properly. I don't see how he's gooing to get better by playing...

I suspect I'm a one-man-minority on this, but Upton shouldn't be playing if it is affecting him that much. He is producing zilch, and we just might get something from a different player while Upton fully heals.... FASTER. too.

Jus' sayin.....

Didn't I just say that?? I would say you're certainly not a one-man-minority...

I think we're all a one-man-minority but I suspect most of us feel Upton should sit until he heals.

Steve

I think he should sit until he is 100% because look at CY's second half of last year. I think because Gibson played injured he might think the guys on this team should to.

You beat me with your comment by a minute, hence, I didn't see it b4 I posted. And I'm proud to be a not-one-man-minority with ya, partner! ;)

Really? How do you two come to this conclusion? I haven't seen the games, but the stats say Parra has had 4 total chances in CF so far. Despite the pathetically small sample size, his defensive stats in CF are not positive either. Right now it seems like either wishful projecting or seriously low expectations.
