I'm sorry but his arm is not even half a tool.
Neither is his hitting for average.

'Interesting to look at all five categories for CY.

Hitting for average...........F
Hitting for power.............C
Fielding..........................A
Throwing........................F
Speed............................B

That comes out to slightly under a C.

Just for the heck of it, if we look at Parra.

Hitting for average..........B
Hitting for power.............F
Fielding.........................B
Throwing.......................A
Speed...........................C

That comes out to a C+.

And if you don't expect your CF to be a homerun hitter (because neither of them is a Kubel or Goldschmidt or even what Upton should be) and eliminate power as a category, Parra gets a B- and Young a C- in head-to-head competition.

I don't know how to factor in Young's overwhelming tendency to either popup or strikeout (with the bat on his shoulder), but I'd guess it brings him to an underwhelming D overall.

Then there are Parra's intangibles. Ability to adjust. Attitude. A place for him in the batting order. Lefty bat. I'd say that makes him more of a B vs. Young's D.

You forgot one more category, BASE RUNNING Parra F
BASE RUNNING Young incomplete as he is never on base

Yep:

Parra OBP - .345
Young OBP - .303 MASSIVE FAIL
Ironically, today's AzRepublic showed some random "telling stats", including the category of Percent of Pitches Taken.

CY ranks 9th highest in the NL with 60.8%. (Dodger catcher AJ Ellis ranked highest at 64.9%.)

I suppose if Young were a Punch'n'Judy slap hitter, trying to draw walks, not swinging at six out of every ten pitches would be a good thing. Y'know, like when Craig Counsell became our leadoff hitter.

But with Young trying to put every ball into the air when he does swing, well, if he were a good selective hitter, he wouldn't be batting .209, with a career batting average of .237 in this, his sixth full season.

I wonder how he ranks with 3rd strikes taken. Watching him looks like he'd be right up there with the "leaders".

I also wonder what the coaches are doing about it. Or if they have given up. Every day that he is in the starting lineup makes it more difficult for the D'backs to be anything more than a mediocre .500 team. After 112 games, we are two games above .500. Not what the experts predicted at the start of the season.

Matt Williams was sent down to the Minors three times during his career with the SF Giants. Young should have been sent down again earlier this season.

Wow. You give Parra a "B" in fielding and he is the current gold glove winner.

Oh how I wish Young would become a Juan Pierre type of guy. Just make contact and get on base, use his speed to make pitchers fear him on the base paths. Alas, it is too late for Young because he thinks he is a power hitter.

Not bad at all... Would be nice if we can string together a bunch of wins though... we're essentially playing .500 ball which won't work.

Looks like we get Strasburg tomorrow night. The Nats are a tremendous team on the road this will be a very tough series...
And it's only a 3 game home trip and we're back out on the road for a 6 game roadie against the Cards and Houston. Then a 9 game home-stand before we head to Dodger town...

Somehow, we're gonna have to find a way to put together an 8 out of 10 or better streak... like ASAP!! ;)

Dbacks take on Nationals 3 game series

Yep... ;)

With throwing a different category from fielding in the 5-tools evaluation, I guess I was offering an olive branch to the Young-over-Parra fanatics who have posted about Young's superiority in his running lane to get to the ball in CF. That, plus Parra's gold glove was in LF.

Young is superior to Parra in that category (as well as base running), so I gave Gerardo a "B" to CY's "A". But with a gold glove, OK, I'll change my rating of Parra's fielding to an "A-", which drops Young even farther behind Parra as to who should be the primary starting CF. After six years of futility in the Majors, Young shouldn't even be the starting CF in the high Minors.

Lost two in a row to the Nats. Strasburg was tough yesterday, but tonight really seemed like a lack of fight and confidence. Pretty sad to see that Young and Upton appear to be mediocre role players at best. If Kubel, Goldy, or Hill can't knock in runs, we're toast.

The 5th the inning of tonights game was shameful. They looked like an A ball team.

We left after the top of the 5th. Worst defensive game I have ever seen from a MLB team.

The Nats are beating up on SF tonight... would be nice to gain some ground on an off-day for once.

Knew something was up with Saito... he's looked like crap his past few outings...

Diamondbacks place reliever Takashi Saito on DL

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks placed right-handed reliever Takashi Saito on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday because of a strained left hamstring.

The 42-year-old Saito has no record with a 6.14 ERA in 10 games with Arizona. Saito was an All-Star in 2007 during a 39-save season with the Dodgers. He totaled 81 saves in his first three major league seasons and has a 2.27 ERA for his career, but has just three saves the last four seasons.

''He's had a hard time staying healthy all year,'' manager Kirk Gibson said. ''He was really sore the other day when the doctors examined him. We're not going to play short at this point.''

Dodgera already went down to the Pirates today... with a win, the Dbacks can crawl back to within 5.5 of first place.
Cahill is up against Lohse... and with our offense laying eggs by the dozen each night, it's not looking pretty. :(

It's time to bench CY permanently. He is really killing this team, especially when he comes to plate with men in scoring position.
