So where does it end? There is only one reason Goldy was on first base: Javy Guerra took over for starter Stephen Fife with one out and a runner on first base in the fifth inning and drilled Goldschmidt in the shoulder with his first pitch. During the series, Goldschmidt was a one-man wrecking crew, going 8-for-12 with two homers, five RBIs and four runs scored.
Let's say Goldy made that slide to make a statement after he was intentially drilled. All even, right? No, now you are going to throw at his head when the score should be evened out. Now the DBacks drill Jerry... Then the Doyers...Like I said, where does it end?
It ends as follows:
1.) Goldy attacks the mound after being hit and punches out Guerra.
2.) The next time the Dbacks are on the field, whoever is pitching hits Guerra if he bats, or, they hit whomever is hot in the Dodger lineup.
I have a hard time believe that Goldy attacked Hairston like that, simply because he was beaned by Guerra. That would seriously violate one of the most fundamental and unwritten codes in baseball. I think Goldy simply tried to take out Hairston in a very hard attempt to break up the double play. He made a very poor, rookie mistake however, by actually waiting until he passed the bad to start his slide... that is a MAJOR no-no in baseball... He's very lucky Hairston was not seriously hurt...
