2014 Suns Free Agency

Ya it's a little annoying waiting, and the more that comes out, the less I feel the Suns are still in it, but I really don't think there are many other options out there that I am interested in the Suns signing. There isn't going to be a ton of movement until Melo and LeBron both choose, so why not ride the wave until it's over?

I realize it's only been a week. My issue at this point is Lebron hasn't even really starting meeting with teams. If he goes back to Miami than it ends quick, but if he is really going to listen to other teams, than maybe going on vacation the first week wasn't the best idea. Meanwhile it will be another week of meeting with teams and than there is making a decision. Like I said, I suspect a decision is already been made or is at least close. I have no confidence at this point that the Suns are in the picture. I think it's Cleveland and Miami. Remember, we only got his agents ear. We don't know if Lebron had anything to do with those meetings or whether his agent is just hearing them out on his own. He's seen what Riley can do and now he hopefully will decide whether to return and if not what steps he's going to take to moving on. Yes, the top free agent(s) do usually hold things up every year, but they do their rounds, get their offers and than take a few days to think about it. Meanwhile Lebron has met with nobody and we don't even know if the teams his agent met with are at Lebrons request?

It was fun sitting at The King's table for a bit but now it's just getting downright annoying. The odds currently feel like 49.5% Cavs, 49.5% Heat, 1% Suns. Let's get it over already so we can move forward!

It's crazy that they will start 3 #1 picks next year and might still be garbage. 4 if Lebron goes back.

Funny, I never thought about it this way. The Cavaliers have had 6 first overall picks. The Suns 0.

But beyond that I'm indifferent. We're all waiting on Lebron, but my assumption is that Lebron is waiting on negotiations we're not hearing about, and giving the Heat every last moment to exhaust their options. He may have promised Riley and his teammates that he wouldn't meet with other teams himself until that point.

Carmello and Bosh haven't signed anywhere, either. We can assume Bosh is waiting to see if he can stay with Lebron in Miami. Maybe Lebron is actually waiting on Carmello...

It's already been a week, I think if he doesn't decide by end of day today, it's time to move on.

In comparison, back in 2010, all the star FAs had already chosen their destinations within a week.

Of course my feelings are irrelevant and I agree that if there's a chance, even 1% on getting James under contract, you wait it out. I'm just annoyed that he's known all along that free agency starts on the 1st. He could meet with other teams as he makes his decision. Perhaps that's going on now? I'm just annoyed that, at least what has been reported, at this stupid timeline. There is no logical reason to put everything on hold. He could be doing his due diligence AND give Riley time or whatever he wants to do. This give Miami time, THAN go about hearing other teams out was completely unnecessary.

EDIT: I also realize that his waiting makes everyone else wait, therefore it gives Riley more time to talk to all these other guys and try to convince them to come to Miami. If he was committed, chips would fall quickly and guys might agree to contracts while never giving Riley a chance to talk with them. So if this is all staged to give Riley the time he needs to talk to guys before teams are willing to put offers on the table and snatch them up, than it's smart and it's working.

I don't care at all. He can take all summer if he wants. There's just nothing else I'm really interested in paying a lot of money for after James and maybe Bosh. I'd rather save for trades and/or 2015 free agency.

Besides, it's not his fault really. James is waiting to see what Pat Riley can put together to entice him to stay in Miami. Seems like everybody is kind of waiting on somebody else.

I'm just excited to watch our summer league team. Can't remember the last time I was this excited to watch them.

We only have to give up talent if it's a sign and trade. We don't need to do that. They either match (if an offer is made) or they don't, but I agree, a sign and trade would be dumb.

Gordon Hayward would've been my #1 choice and he's no longer available, James never seriously considered any Team from West, IMO. He's content playing in crappy East, though if he signs with cavs I think they'll need to upgrade Roster.

I'm more upset about losing Hayward and I'm aware he's not as talented but I think he would've been interested in the Suns. He didn't shoot well as 1st option but 16 5 5 1.5 .5 as a SF that can play SG - would've been my preference. Adding LeBron and another Max contract means the Suns would've had to of gotten rid of Green, Len, Marcus Morris, and possibly Tucker.

IF, the Suns go after Greg Monroe I'd start him at Center (though I really like Plumlee and Len) but at Center he'd be upgrade offensively, rebounding, and as a passer. Markieff could start at PF (upgrade from Frye), with minutes there coming from Marcus Morris, Warren, and Tucker; and ability to play Big with Monroe at 4 alongside Plumlee/Len.

Markieff, Marcus, Warren, and Tucker are capable from 3PT and while not as prolific from 3PT line; each player looks able to also drive from there unlike Frye.

I think you need to be realistic about Len - Lopez has just come good, Len will probably need at least the same amount of time.

Where could I find out how many fast break points Greg Monroe averages/game?? Watching the Suns/pistons games he appears to run court really well, while not to be considered much of an athlete. He also shoots better from perimeter than Plumlee, another reason I'd think as long as Plumlee/Len get their minutes he's a Center that can play PF.

If Miles Plumlee is respectable on mid-range shot in Summer League, that could change things though...

Good Lord, almost $16M per year for Hayward. I suppose maxing Bledsoe isn't as bad as it sounds.

Bledsoe's max is a non-story really. People compare him to Stephen Curry - as if Curry is not going to make the max soon.

I think it could be bad for morale if the player who's making twice as much money as anyone else on the team is always either injured or turning the ball over. A max contract for last year's Bledsoe would be a very bad deal. The only reason to commit a big contract to him is if you believe he's going to get both better and healthier.

As you know, I am a Bledsoe skeptic, but if Hayward is getting $16M per year, Bledsoe (much higher ceiling) is a bargain at $12 or $13M, or whatever the exact max is. As for morale, I don't think it would be a problem as long as Dragic gets an equal extension (or a bit more, depending on how he does next year.)

I am also guessing McD will find another player (FA, trade, etc) who will be making $10M+ per year.

Don't get me wrong, I would still prefer to send Bledsoe somewhere else and get some assets back, but when the Suns give him a max, I am not going to be as disappointed after seeing what Hayward (and even Frye) got on the open market.
